And that's Muric to my ears 😁. A reported £18m for Trafford and an undisclosed fee for Muric. If you melted them together in a pot you wouldn't get a good 'un. Kompany had his pants pulled down by City.

They should have tried for Kaminski - £2 million and a better bet than either of those.

Mainoo, Elliott, Chukwuekema, and Buonanotte have all definitely impressed this season. Then you have some highly touted prospects like Rico Lewis who is playing as a right-back but could definitely have his future in midfield and players like Lavia who haven't really played this season.

It's not a knock on Wharton. He's very talented and he could go onto big things, but as he was our player there is a tendency to look at his talent as being more unique than it probably is. Still a long way to go before he even starts putting himself in England contention.

*I'll also add that I'm almost certainly forgetting or overlooking certain players as I don't watch as many matches from some clubs. Again, we benefit from paying attention to Wharton in a way that we wouldn't have had he just signed for Palace from Leicester.

The lad’s got what you can’t teach. He carries his own space around with him. He’s two passes in front of play. Terrific vision and passing skills. If he’d gone to Liverpool or Arsenal instead of Palace he be knocking on the England door now.

I think you'll struggle to find something saying that I didn't rate him. I think he's very talented, but I've always said that there are players of equal talent dotted around clubs in England.

As for not many? It's a relatively short list, but there would definitely be 5-10 on it virtually every season (including this one).

How many are just 20 years old ?

RIP ‘Deadly’ Derek Underwood, another childhood hero gone 😢

Really, that’s shame. I remember coming home from work on the last day of an Ashes test in the UK. It was about 4-50 pm when games finished at 6-00 pm.The Aussies were hanging on for a draw at about 55 for 2. Underwood had them all out in under an hour on a wicket that was helping him. For the last couple of wickets every England fielder was in camera shot surrounding the batsman !

    Thanks for the memories Derek.

Edit - just looked it up. The Oval 1968. The highlights are on YouTube for those interested.

Vernon, Pickering---both to Everton where our best managers seemed to end up as well. Mike England to Spurs.

We really are a feeder club.

Kevin Hird, John Bailey, Colin Hendry - the list goes on and on. But at least we got a season or two out of all of them first !

  6. I’m envious of all the other clubs that are being run by sentient human beings that actually give a fuck. Clubs that are being run with a plan that lasts longer than the next 24 hours. I’m also envious of all the other clubs that have owners who actually turn up to games and face the music if necessary . I look at the like of Bolton, Pompey, Derby who have hit the depths and are coming back up again and I’m envious because with proper ownership Rovers could be on the way back as well.

I just hope I live long enough to see the cancer that is slowly killing Blackburn Rovers removed entirely.

The DNA evidence alone was overwhelming. Then when you realise that he had conveniently disposed of other incriminating evidence (clothes that he had been wearing on the night etc) but the clincher for me was the Bruno Magli shoes. The odds on it being anyone other than OJ Simpson that committed those murders was literally billions to one.

Joe Bloggs would have been convicted on much less evidence than that and like @Gav I watched the trial live at the time as it was fascinating.

Hey, leave the Bruno Magli shoes out of this, I have a few pairs of those.

We better have negotiated an unbelievable sell on clause for him after selling him so cheaply 'cos he's far too good for Crystal Palace and won't be staying there long.

He won’t be there after next season.

It’s the Championship for you, inconsistent players, that’s why they are down here.

Look at Sunderland, we spanked them at their place last week, they won at a top 6 side yesterday.

Or Bristol who beat us in a canter yet were extremely lucky to get a draw at home to Huddersfield.

I actually thought we had the best chances, besides the goal, there was the Szmodics cross which I still can't believe didn't go in, and the Costello shot which was so close.

Szmodics also forced the best save of the first half. Chances wise, they had the quantity but I'd say we had the quality.

I don’t know how that cross from Sammi stayed out.

Eustace had impressed at Birmingham earlier this season before his controversial sacking, and Rovers were confident he was the right man for the job.

Broughton continued: “My role then was to present the board of directors with a list. It is something we had been working on – and I have been quite open about it - for the previous 12 months.

“You have to highlight the risks, strengths and weaknesses of anybody who sits on that list.

“My job, when John Eustace comes into the post on the back of that, is to support him as best as possible, as I did with Jon Dahl previously.”

Rovers still have work to do heading into the final eight games of the Championship season as they aim to pull away from the relegation zone.

Broughton explained: “If you go back to where (Eustace) started at Kidderminster Harriers, they were very open and knows as the ‘Barcelona of non-league football’ in terms of some of their attacking play.

“You also saw at Birmingham last year that all of their players were either under 21 or over 28, they had very few players in that middle section. He also left the club in the play-off positions.

“Some of the headline data might not suggest that is the perfect match but when you scratch beneath the surface and do the research, there is a lot of alignment with the way we want to do things.

“The head coach needs the opportunity to get on the grass and implement his style of play. In John’s first five weeks here, we had double gameweeks because of our success in the FA Cup.

“This is the first extended period where he has been on the grass with the players, but I think he will need the rest of the season and pre-season as well for him to be able to put his slant on our game model.”

    That’s fair enough.
