I couldn’t figure out who should be playing where. It looked like he’d put all the players names into a hat and just picked out the first 11 names. There wasn’t a tackle in the midfield. My heart sank when I saw that team. In such a big game ! What was he thinking off ? What was the plan ? Has anybody asked him ? Come 5-15 and I’m on my way out of the theatre so I have a quick look at the scores. Scored first and lost to bloody Portsmouth. Where do we go from here ? I’ve defended Ismael in the past but I can’t defend that selection today. Does he really want to be fired ? Is it time for a pay off ? That starting team said “ Please Sack Me “ in my eyes. Incidentally - “ Singing In The Rain “ is brilliant, but I’m on a totally downer now !

That’s pretty poor. I expect most decent amateur players would be able to get through the first round at least.

Along with all that I think he’s the sort of player that likes to run with the ball David Dunn style. He’s nowhere near that level at the moment.

I’m not sure he’s ready to play at this level.

I think he’d like to be a Cantwell style player but he’s miles off at the moment.

I don’t fancy Miller at right back to be honest. He doesn’t look nippy enough to me. Plus his passing leads me to think his crossing of the ball will be a bit slap dash. Right side centre half is probably his limit.

He’s not got the qualities you need to play that role. First and foremost, you have to play in a disciplined fashion. You need to be able to spot danger before it happens, intercept play, tackle, move the ball on quickly, and don’t get drawn out of position when you have possession. Lots of opponents will let you carry the ball forward when you’re playing in that position, they’re hoping to catch you downfield when they win the ball. None of this fits the bill with Taveres as far as I can see. I see Taveres as a Cantwell wanna be.

I’m pleased for him but a pound to a penny some manager will be saying to one of his players who have also been selected - “ See if the lad fancies a move “.

That game against Brazil where Mullery marked Pele was the best I ever saw him play. He was tremendous that day. He kept Pele, who was probably at the height of his powers and playing in a great team, relatively quiet. Big Mal talked a lot of sense most of the time, I learnt a lot just by listening to him back in the day.

He’ll never be able to play the Tronstad role. He’s not diligent enough.

TGH for me unless we need him in midfield. Failing that if we get one of our crocked centre halves back we can play Miller at right back. It’s bad news for Rovers but good news for the lad. He’s earned it.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t mean to disrespect you, it just sounds way out regarding the 7-0 score. I know the first 11 aren’t brilliant but from what I’ve seen of the U-21’s they aren’t any better. Are you sure he didn’t get the score the wrong way around ? An older guy ( Ribeiro ) losing his rag at a younger player doesn’t surprise me. Been there, done that, to my shame. Kids not rating the older players doesn’t surprise me either.
