  1. A Berkovic header. That’s one for the scrap book.
  2. Go on YouTube. The goal was for Sheffield United v Ipswich. If you didn’t know it was Tony Field you’d think it was Messi. A brilliant bit of skill. Incidentally I was browsing the racks in TKMaxx years ago and I came across two replica New York Cosmos shirts by “ Umbro “ , one home and one away. “ Pele “ and “ 10 “ on the back. I just couldn’t leave them there. I was hoping to get the great man to sign them one day. Too late now.
  3. The Clovers - Love Potion Number Nine
  4. Hunter was part of the Bobby Bell transfer. Bell came as a £20,000 make weight in that deal and we sold him about 3 weeks later for £55,000 to Palace where he hardly ever played. A Jim Smith master stroke, even if we lost Hunter who was top class, as his future career at Ipswich proved.
  5. I remember Jim Smith, who was the Derby manager at that time, telling the story about how Rovers bought Dailly. His chairman had heard through the grapevine that Rovers were going to bid for Dailly, so they had a meeting and agreed that they wouldn’t accept a penny less than £2 million for him. They nearly fell off their seats when in the conference call over the phone Roy Boy’s opening offer was £5 million ! They even managed to squeeze another £250,000 out of us !
  6. Yeah, I remember Kurila. His nickname was “ Killer “, not without a reason. Cushley eventually came South to play for West Ham when they needed an hard man amongst their Southern Softies.
  7. He wasn’t actually a giant, he just played like one.
  8. Yes, you’re right. Bryan Conlon ! And then we moan about Gueye.
  9. If you rubbed them together you wouldn’t have a Simon Garner or a David Speedie.
  10. He made one good signing - Stephane Henchoz. All the rest ranged from poor to abysmal.
  11. That’ll buy a lot of tins of “ Hammerite “.
  12. Nathan Blake was another really poor signing.
  13. Really. I thought he was/is a Jack Vale tribute act.
  14. It looks like the players have given up on him and are just treading water until the new mug comes in. A great time to play them ! When we used to play them in the “ Fergietime “ era you had to win there to get a draw !
  15. Joe South - Walk A Mile In My Shoes
  16. I agree. However I remember that Luton Town centre half putting one on Gallagher that ended up with Gally going to hospital. I’m not even sure he got booked.
  17. I’m old enough to remember having to clear the dinosaur shit off the pitch before we could kick off. The recent events reminds me of the time when Ken Furphy came in. We’d had years of treading water before eventually being relegated to the old Div 3. Furphy came in and began a massive clear out of players who’d been at the club a while who’d obviously become disenchanted with football. Some were fans favourites - Eamon Rogers, who was like Travis only he could play football as well. Billy Wilson - a really good tenacious full back, Malcolm Darling , a decent striker. All of these were good players but they’d become jaded by being at a club that was in the doldrums for years. They were treading water and weren’t playing to the best of their ability. There were others that I forget now that left the club but players were coming in and going out on a daily basis. The famous Bobby Bell deal being just one. Some of these deals worked out, some didn’t. Some young players were brought back in that went on to be household names like Faz and Mecky. But at the end of all the upheaval we had a team that looked like they wanted to play for Blackburn Rovers and they wanted to be out there. He laid the seeds for the eventual promotion out of the dungeons of Div 3 and back to the relatively sunny uplands of Div 2. Let’s hope this turmoil results in a similar period of success ! Come on you Blues !
  18. Maybe that will buy some tins of paint for the ground.
  19. What did you see in his game thst gave you that impression ? I alway think that if I’m playing against this player what do I have to look out for ? What I saw was a player who wasn’t a handful physically, not particularly big, not particularly tricky with the ball at his feet, not particularly quick, no real “ hold up “ play to speak of, and when he eventually got a chance he usually fluffed it. I think £1 million is a great deal for us. They must have signed him going off memory because when did they see him play ? Obviously I respect your views mate, so we’ll see who’s right before too long.
  20. Mm, I wouldn’t call that a gamble. I’m pretty sure how that will pan out.
  21. I won’t matter how long they give him, or anybody else. The whole club has become unmanageable. The manager capable of bringing them success doesn’t exist. It’s like the “ Titanic “ before it hit the iceberg.
  22. Of all the bookings he got, and there was many, I never saw him once get booked for putting a “ quietener “ on an opponent
  23. Yeah I saw him riding Shergar up there the other day
