nothing against the lad but he`s a non league player and it shows, game at this level is far to quick for him,it`s a stuggle for him

Hasn't he scored a few when he's played for the reserves? Might have just been friendlies actually I can't remember. Just seems a bit odd if he's not being used anywhere, he could of course be injured though.

It’s a bullshit argument. No professional athlete should have tired anything 3 full days after their last exertion. If you’re the wrong side of 40 and spend all week sat at a desk while consuming galllons ale, maybe.

I'm 42 and train 5 or 6 times a week and like an ale too, so there's definitely no excuse for <40 year old pros!

Going to be some tired legs out there, would be happy with a point.

The two games after this are huge, anything less than six points there is a failure.

You don't have tired legs 4 days after, particularly as a professional sportsman. DOMS would be at their worst today so I imagine it was a relatively light training session. Ramp it up tomorrow and good to go on Saturday. Unless players are carrying injuries, then it's a bit different.

  4. Vale has got to be one of the biggest disappointments in years, really thought we might be onto something when hw was scoring regularly for the reserves. He never really did much for the first team or even on loans spells though elsewhere.

A goal scorer that comes through the academy would be that extra bit special but it never seems to happen.

Every time Gilsenan isn't included for the first team you see countless comments on social media asking why, from people who've barely seen him play. I haven't seen much of him either but something can't be quite right if he's constantly overlooked surely?

  5. The Wigan game went a long way to tarnishing his reputation and many have found it hard to forget even now!

I think last night probably went some way to setting the record straight though, just a shame he couldn't be the ultimate hero in a shootout win.

He's been bob on since his return from injury to be fair and I dare say we would have conceded more under Leo, who simply needed to come out of the firing line - Hopefully he can recover from his torrid time.

  6. Genuinely think that's the best game I've watched in a long time, alright I'm gonna be a bit biased but it was a proper cup tie.

Obviously gutted but hopefully the players use it as a springboard rather than go ok a downer. Genuinely surprised by a few performances, in a good way. You'd struggle to pick fault at many.

We must now pray Szmodics ain't too badly injured but it's been threatening for a few weeks now.

Would be dangerous to risk Gallagher, McFadzean and Szmodics with 3 huge games coming up in the league. Getting to a quarter final would be brilliant for the 2nd year running, but not if it means our key players are knackered for Swansea on Saturday.

My predicted team, and probably way off. Please don't dislike my post 😂.

                                 Pears

                 Hyam    Wharton    Pickering

      Brittain     Tronstad    Garrett    Chrisene

                                Moran

                      Dolan     Sigurdsson

Any professional player could play today and be fine for Saturday to be fair, it's just if any are feeling a tight groin or anything from the Norwich game. I strongly suspect none of the players want to sit tonight out though regardless....I'd say Szmodics especially will want to show he can cut it against premier league opposition with half an eye on his next career move...

  8. A new manager in a sports team or a 9-5 job will always target the weakest areas of performance initially - I've been doing it myself the last few months!

In 5 games (assuming we give him Stoke), we've conceded 5 goals, not too bad really.

In JDT's last 5 league games we conceded 12 goals - which is dreadful, especially if you factor in we played Rotherham/QPR/Huddersfield too in those games.......

When you also factor in the lack of training sessions JE has had to work with, I'd say he's doing a steady job.  I'd like to think that given times he manages to introduce a little more flair and attacking play but we'll see.

Souey always used to say he was weeing with the willy he had, essentially thats what JE is doing.  JDT was trying to wee with a 12 inch chopper, when in reality he was working with more of a stump.

  9. Can only hope its more Stoke than Birmingham or Cardiff, which in fairness it could be. Brum set up different at home under Eustace so it will hopefully be the same here. I can live with grinding out draws away and winning at home.

I'm working so won't be going this week, hope they put on a bit of a show for those that are going.

Wouldn't really like to call the score, hopefully a 2-1 home win though.

I'm a bit concerned about Szmodics. He definitely looked injured at Cardiff, wouldn't be surprised if he's out tomorrow.....

in some ways Holt needs to be a bit careful, as the casual fan, who might want to see them do well, but are long standing Rovers fans, may well have second thoughts in future.

Or we could tell them to fuck off when they want us to fill their ground for them in the usual friendly, not many teams take them numbers in league 2!

  11. Very few positives from that really, slightly improved after the subs. Buckley played fairly well, certainly better than Garrett who's looking lost every game. I think him and Tronstad could work fairly well based on that. We gave the ball away so so easily all game, Ayari, Moran, Brittain some of the worst culprits.

Eustace will point towards the clean sheet, I guess it's a slight achievement when we've not had one since November, but at what cost, no attacking threat?

Only other slight plus is that Plymouth got battered so we climb a spot.

Szmodics will definitely feel his hammy in the morning, very worrying indeed. Not expecting him to play at weekend.
