1. I am English, but I can't stand McClaren as a manager. He is so average. Boro illicit a mumble and a shrug of the shoulders when a neutral is asked what they think of them. They could have saved the English fans (and Scottish fans) the hassle of the stupid interviews over many months and given it to him after Sven's announcement of leaving.

If they were not going for the best, they should have signed up a sh_t English manager like Peter Reid, Mick McCarthy, Steve Bruce or Stan Ternant to stick two fingers up at the xenophobes.

you're right billy! i dont know if i could bring myself to watch his england team. hoping sky bring out a sussesor to 'sky plus' (that automatically edits out mccs 'staged' interviews and 'match cut -aways' of him sucking on his pen!).

all the brown -nosing of lampard etc.. has already got on my breasts and i'm boycotting watching SSNEWS tonight. (bet the city and arsenal pre/ post is full of it an all).

i predict a 'pearce- style' honeymoon for 2-3 games and then revert to either sven/ taylor performances and results.

the most telling thing of all is the reaction of the middlesborough fans, they can not believe their luck!

  2. I've said no. I'm not totally against the appointment, but I just feel that the gulf in experience between Souness and Hughes is eventually going to tell. I am mentally prepared for relegation now. Anything other will be a huge bonus. I hope I can eat my words.

    243961

i'm sure you'll happily eat your words shaddy!

MH and the rest of his staff have been immense (since they walked through the door) and they deserve more recognition (from the media and 'floating rovers fans).

newcastle (H) was definetly the turning point (he abandoned the 4-5-1, after watching us dominate newcastle and lose 3-0) and every player has been terrific thereafter (WBA and EVERTON AWAY are the 2 exceptions).

overjoyed he's signed, i know he'll get cherry-picked someday, but i'm sure this season is just the 1st stop on the rd to greatness (for both MH and rovers).

  3. Yes I really wanted to start a campaign to get Souness re-instated. I feel that he is somewhat misunderstood, mostly by his players who insist on playing out of position in mysterious formations. It is a long time since we were treated to some complete misfit from Spain or Italy playing in blue and white and whilst Hughes made a heroic attempt at emulating the master motivator in meaningless games by losing away to Brum and West Brom, it was pathetic that we were not doubled over by Sunderland as well.

We've given Hughes and his backroom contracts to 2009- I'm sure there's room for Souey to get a contract for kicking players in the five a side until 2019 and telling anyone who will listen that they are a pansy.

    404821

yes! and bring back dino baggio and martin andresen. that tugay's never been any good! laugh.gif

  4. Haha just read that sutton was on £45'000 per week, and that his stint at Big Club cost them over £1m.

Didn't think i would say this but thank you Chris!

    404634

'fat head's' son is on £5,500 a wk. sullivan is used to getting shafted though! (money wise i mean wink.gif )

  5. 'Dream on dreamer' Jeepers Eddie  - so you are happy for the 'non footballer' to amble through another 3 seasons picking up wages for doing next to nothing?  blink.gif

Some people really are blind to what is so apparently obvious - he has been given ample opportunity and has failed miserably - which is no surprise to me considering what I saw in his first season never mind since.

    404395

    good summary.

emerton is exasperating. he has all the attributes to be a top player, but isnt mentally tough enough/ bright enough to fulfil his potential.

the way he passes square or back and runs infield all the time (to save him beating his man) is reminiscent of how damian johnson was for us- any1 clambering for him to be brought back....... ?

the same people saying "keep him", are mostly the same that want pong to stay and milner to be brought in rolleyes.gif

  6. I'm a season ticket holder but cant attend this match cause I have a massive 3 hour exam on thursday and need to revise my ass off for it. Does that make me a bad fan? Some things come first you know.

    404121

prom, youre not included- youre a STK holder and therefore have contributed.

as for flopsy,- i would do the 3 hr trip (already attend most away games, inc. all midweek ones).

  7. I'm still un-decided on who I want.

Looks to be a toss of a coin between McClaren and Big Sam.

Big Sam seems to be wanting more, from what he has said after the Spurs game.

But McClaren looked a bit smug when he was asked a few questions after tonight's game.

    403969

bet he still cant believe his luck. i know i cant! ohmy.gif

  8. Oh yeah, went to Brockhall yesterday and Hughes made Gallagher stay behind after training and practice crosses. Right midfield tonight?

    404100

could replace reidy on the right, he'll be RB if nelson fails. gally did play on the right when he first came into the team and got a decent crosses in. charlton @ home i think.... ?

  9. pfft

we dont deserve a prem team with a absolute disgusting crowd that low

these are the champions we are playing

WE NEED 2 POINTS to achieve a big goal

    404064

    it's an absolute embarrasment! mad.gif

before any1 whinges about "too dear etc..." that's nonsense, 1 word 'budget.'

in my book, unless you attend most home games, (that's the min requirement)

you cant call yourself a fan.

seen more and more rovers shirts in circulation recently. if half of them attended ewood it'd be full every wk. mad.gif

  10. I hear they may be going to Thailand to play in the tournement City and Bolton played in last year. It goes on league position and has a top prize of 1million pounds for the winner.

    403882

officials have been looking into going to china. another possibility.

  11. With no Terry, Drogba, Makelelelelelelele and Essien. we have a decent chance but the players coming in will be fighting for their places so it could backfire.

Equally the loss of nelsen is massive for us but it seems like lucas will play CB.

I would love to see gally given a run out today. We have a very good chance to beat them but we have to play aswell as we did on saturday and take any chances we get!  rover.gif

    404026

late fitness test on the admiral. medical staff are hopeful he will play.

  12. Pleasure seems to think he is friends with SWP. I have no reason to doubt him as it seems a pretty random player with no connections to Rovers at all. Although I sure I remember you saying he was set to join Rovers on loan?!

And even if you are friends with SWP, Im sure he's delighted with you telling an internet messageboard whats going on in his career(refering to the posts you made a while back on him)

    403673

my relationship with SWP came about as follows- my bro played in the same youth sides as BWP and i used to watch him from the comfort of joe royle's office/ keegan's, with... SWP. he was 16/ 17 @ the time and a CF. he's a down to earth guy with no pretentions... unlike his younger brother, comes from SWP's background (which i wont go into on here).

i've quite a lot of connections to current city side,- spk to weaver, willow, croft, ireland, richards, jordan or regular basis.

didnt say he was poised to join, said "he would if chelski accepted". he reckons ballack's arrival with limit his chances further (although robben will leave in the summer wink.gif he still would join us, although city have already enquired about his availablity for next season. watch this space.

    believe me or not...

  13. The whole thing is based on rumour, which is based on wishful thinking by nostalgic Rovers fans.

    403849

agreed ozzie. people are getting caught up in the romance of the idea and not the reality (souness' fault or not, people have also forgotten his awful displays towards the end of his time @ rovers).

'IF' he can prove his fitness over the next 2 seasons then maybe.....

but he wont be coming back, anytime soon.

  14. 1-1

    Bellamy

...and 1 point could be all what we need...

    It's up to us now!!!

    Blue and white rover.gif

    403650

1 is all we need. wont be easy though, i'm having nightmares over nelson missing out and SWP roasting gray, not to mention him taking the ###### out of me (as he always does).

we won at charlton, without me predicting, so i'm gonna abstain again.

  15. I think it's ridiculous to blame the Press for Scolari "resigning" from the job even before he'd got it .

Blame for the whole sorry mess lies entirely at the door of the F.A. The root of the problem is the way they dealt with Sven. If they considered what he had done to be so bad they should have sacked him immediately. If not they should have backed him wholeheartedly, not reached a ridiculous fudged compromise allowing him to stay until after the World Cup.

Ironically after taking exception to Sven discussing a job offer after the World Cup (albeit a fake one) the FA did exactly the same thing by pursuing Scolari who is currently under contract to Portugal. The breaking news must have been intensely embarrassing for Scolari who was on official business with the Portugese FA at the time. Added to that the news that he was "only" being offered 2.5m a year to Sven's 5m and the job must have seemed considerably less appealing. How could Scolari convince his current employers he was fully committed to Portugal? What if Portugal drew England in the latter stagesof the World Cup?  And why should any foreign candidate be expected to take the job for less money than Sven?

If the FA intended to include another international manager in their deliberations the selection process should not have occurred until after the World Cup. The make up of the selection panel is fatally flawed anyway. If we really wanted the best manager we'd have gone for Wenger or Mourinho but Dein is never going to recommend Wenger leave Arsenal.

Dreading McClaren getting the job by default.  sad.gif  Allardyce is the pick of the English candidates for me.

    403646

agree with ev.thing said. dein is the man responsible for appointing sven and behind the scolari debacle.

he believes foreign is the way, but for every wenger there are christian gross and (cant remember his name) well- wearing chap that took wimbledon down!

it's staggering that none of this could be done in relative secrecy. they couldve sent some unknown FA worker and their solicitor and no-one wouldve been any the wiser.

it's a sorry mess and offering 'big phil' half of what they paid sven over 7years is laughable (on several counts).

  16. petrov- as ive said before, rovers are more than keen, but depends on who else comes in for him.

i've always admired emre, although he looks a couple of stone overweight, his wages are staggeringly high tho (newcastle had to pay 3 M to buy out his inter contract!).

that said- id be suprised if he remains at newc for much longer(now that souey has gone) and tugay could swing it.... doubtful tho.

  17. Can someone tell me what Scholari has done?I thought he was nailed on and now he seems to be out of the running completely? Yes I am a bit out of touch at the moment.

    403635

said he didnt want the job, after 20 gutter journo's disturbed him having dinner with his wife.

not the real reason- he lost to argentina, in 1 of his 1st games, and had many death threats- and brazil is undoubtedly more pressurised than the england job(they int. players and managers on the pitch, before during and after games and pipe it around on the stadium PA).

he's used england to engineer a better contract with portugal (he used benfica before euro 04). got to applaud the guy's nouce and cant blame him (they are the european brazil- afterall).
