We won't be looking for those, because it's not our game under Mowbray. We don't play a game based on crossing. We don't have bodies in the box with aerial ability to take advantage. I believe this is one of the reasons Nyambe doesn't have any assists despite his surging runs. Yes his crossing needs work anyway, but we don't tend to have good options in there to send it to direct. Nyambe has been involved in several goals, by marauding and laying it off to someone, then a pass or two, or a ricochet, finds its way to someone who can finish it off on the deck. But direct crossing to someone who nods it home isn't something we really do outside of set pieces.

It flushed out responses because the absolute maximum DG has ever delivered for us, as good as he has been, is 22 goal contributions (assists and goals) and that was in League One. His other seasons have had 19, 16, and 7 (which was his half season). This season he has 3. He has never scored 20 goals in a season for us either, which is what you just said SG needs to be to replace him. As much as I like DG and am unsure about SG, the claims you've made don't match the stats. It's also worth pointing out SG did a lot better goals wise in his first spell than this one (just over 1 in 4, versus just over 1 in 10 this time), so saying the spells are the same isn't true either. The rest of your argument is fair enough, but where you've used actual numbers, you're way off, sorry. Personally, I really can't tell yet whether he is going to come good, alright, or a total flop. I also think he should shave his head! He's a big lad and that floppy hair makes him look softer plus seems to get in the way a little. Go aerodynamic, go bully-boy! This game is huge. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the biggest game of the season, because a playoff final is obviously bigger than anything, and all games feel more important at the time. But I think this is a serious litmus test. We are on a good run of form which could get derailed, but if we are as good as we are hoping we are becoming, we should be able to at least avoid defeat (anything can always happen of course no matter how good you are). It's a chance to take points off a playoff rival who are a good side, maintain our run, show we are serious, finally hit top 6, and a chance to exorcise the ghosts of last season's collapse. As we all know it was the reversal from 2-0 up to lose 5-2 which signalled our season ending and we were awful after that. Lenihan's injury that day being a big factor of course. This is a game where even if we go 2-0 up, we will therefore still be quite nervous. The season probably isn't going to hinge all on one game, and good runs can end anytime, and bad ones too. That said, I feel like it is likely to be a big marker and therefore... A defeat and I'm going to go back to thinking the playoffs are still a bit beyond us as we will have returned to our nosebleed tendencies and just given an umpteenth false dawn. A win and I'm going to feel like we are a serious force in this race and have a real shot. A draw isn't conclusive either way, but will leave me feeling we do have a bit of a shot, as we will have gone toe to toe with a good side, a playoff rival, and not come undone under pressure.

He's definitely looked a lot more likely to turn into something the last couple of games. My worry now is he seems to massively be a confidence player. If he keeps just getting tiny cameos off the bench even if he does well (which we have seen Mowbray be guilty of many a time with other players) that could fade and put us back to square one. He also seems to have a stamina issue, which tbf may be restricting his starts. The way he was huffing after that excellent run to score for the reserves, and I saw him huffing to a lesser degree yesterday despite coming on late. But at least he's working harder.

In fairness I think he was waiting for the player in the middle (I forget who) to spring off his marker into space so he could make the pass. But they just stood in place. He watched for it slightly too long, expecting it any moment, and it went out. He should have been ready to touch the ball in when the run didn't materialise, hopefully that will come with experience.

No, you know what Paul tells you he has heard is going on. The Bellingham stuff is too widely reported to just be a rumour. Chaddy, can't you see how odd it is for you to take what somebody on an internet forum has told you somebody else has told him as gospel, but you'll ignore pretty much the entirety of the press and dismiss that as rumour? It is, actually, a bit of an exaggeration. It was a very fine stop though. I would agree Raya may not have had the reach, but there are plenty of goals we have shipped which would be bread and butter to David. Particularly those nearby ones you mentioned Walton being vulnerable on. That said, I'm starting to warm to this lad. A few more games like recent ones, without the flapping we have seen previously and I may even start to think we should sign him at the right price. I wouldn't want to see us spend 3 or 4 million upwards though, at all.

Because if you say massive clubs but don't name them, it sounds like you don't really know what's going on as much as Paul is saying he does. For the record I'm not saying Paul has or hasn't heard reliable information about the situation, I'm just telling you why it is reasonable to ask this question if you're someone who isn't entirely buying the claim. 1 million is a whole different story to 10 million upwards, btw. If we want to make comparisons, it would be fairer to look at Jude Bellingham. Only 16, made getting on for 30 appearances this season I believe, notching 5 or so goals from central midfield. Considerably more impressive than Buckley's CV to date, at 4 years his junior, an age when he shouldn't be anywhere near a first team at tier 2, and the bid for him was what, 25 million? And most people thought that was a little crazy. Hell, we sell established first team goalies with probably about 15 years left in them for 3 million.

Very well in the first half. Fine goal, looked composed in possession and very tidy with it. Finally started seeing the player we keep hearing about. Even threw himself about physically a bit, winning the ball very well on the edge of our box at one point. Second half he was fairly poor I felt. Some sloppy passing and began looking indecisive, something which I wouldn't even have levelled at him in previous games. Then started to stabilise a bit later on. Still a project in progress. Still think a League One loan and weekly men's football would have benefited him better. But maybe he will start to find his feet in our first team instead. Fingers crossed.

Me included, and it tastes fucking delicious He's done reasonably in the game in general to be fair, and even threw his body in hard to win the ball earlier. Really nicely taken goal, though he does seem to have luck with deflections when he strikes! Mind you, so did Lampard and that worked out well. This is the kind of stuff we've been hearing about Buckley being capable of, but seeing little of. Hope he can really push on now.

I don't see a draw as particularly any better in terms of the season. If we drop 2 points today there is a high chance we will find ourselves 8 points off the playoffs. That's likely to prove too much, especially if we show we still can't dispatch basement teams. I don't consider the draw unacceptable in itself though, as a lot of good teams have struggled at the Valley. I just think it will show we don't have enough. Tables can change quickly though I guess.

I assume you mean Jacob Davenport. He has played a bit, including fairly recently, and also got a little time late last season. Looks tidy and decent, and like he should be starting today instead of an immobile Johnson being made to play a third game in a week.

Not on here. Most people on this board seem to agree he isn't ready for regular first team football with us largely due to physical shortcomings. Maybe elsewhere, other forums etc, they want to see him knocked off the ball every week.

I think it's fair to say it is slower than most of our starting lineups have been, so I'm not sure why you say that?
