  1. On the other hand, it would be remiss to ignore that as far as we know, no Championship teams are after Scott Wharton despite clearly paying close attention to the Northampton defence. I also question whether playing next to a presumably Championship level defender in League Two may have given Scott an advantage and made things easier for him to impress. Then again, it's not his first time getting good reviews in League Two. And you could ask whether Scott has helped make the other lad look good enough too.
  2. Absolutely it can happen, and just because it's a much lower level doesn't mean you can't hack it at two tiers up. I think what he is saying though is that it's an extreme assumption that just because he did well at League Two level doesn't mean he WILL do well at this one. As opposed to saying the fact it was two leagues below means he CANT. I think it's a fair statement. It's just harder for us, especially as fans who haven't been watching him, to feel safe in relying on him. Personally I have no issue with him and Del duking it out for 3rd choice CB. Then see how he does and if he can compete for regular starts. But I'll be worried we are in for a long and depressing season if we are relying on Wharton making that jump, even if it may turn out golden.
  3. I'd love to get Adarabiyo back, but I really hope our strategy isn't reliant on that. We can't afford to wait all window for City to decide on that one.
  4. He's a tall, black centre half. That appears to be where the similarities to Tosin end. The one review we have of him so far makes him sound like a considerably worse player, albeit possibly with potential, and he just got relegated from a gash league. No reference to silky passes. If we do sign him I guess we'll see if he's like Tosin, or just toss.
  5. We have enough 'boys' centre half prospects. The only reason I can see for bringing in another is if we plan to send most of them on loan and need u23 cover, which seemed to be why we signed Tom White last year.
  6. Yeh he is completely right. But please also remember that just because we were linked with a player etc, it doesn't mean we DID try to get them either. It works both ways.
  7. @Alejandro Tapia Goalkeeper is the position with the smallest potential to sell for a huge profit. It's also the cheapest position to recruit, and very important, so I don't think there's any need to go to the lower leagues and buy 'potential'. We need the finished article and we need it now.
  8. Pretty sure it's more because you're now adding O'Connell into the mix, a Premiership defender who is probably better than Lenihan....plus the ten million. Anyway, never heard of them bidding 10 mill for him, let alone two seasons running. We know they bid a lowball when we got relegated, heard nothing about bids since. Where are you getting this?
  9. Surely it's Buckley, right Paul?
  10. Huh, I thought Harrison Reed had signed for Fulham permanently last summer, but it was just a loan....and now he is being linked with Burnley... https://eurofootballrumours.com/burnley-eyeing-move-for-harrison-reed-20029/ Be pissed off if they got him and he goes on to be a big success for them. (And no, not because he is a realistic signing now)
  11. We all know this is the 2019 summer transfer window thread, and not the current one, right?
  12. Ok, wasn't sure which one had been reported. That list isn't definitive though, it's just based on what is reported. We are really keen on these 1 year options in our favour these days (which I think is a good thing, as long as we activate the right ones). I'd be surprised (and fuming) if the weird 2-year deal Nyambe signed doesn't include one.
  13. I really want to play even the first one, but no way I'm buying a PS. Which they'd release it on xbox or pc.
  14. And Dack as a false 9, and Graham has even shown up on the wing before now. It's as if TM is trying to prove he is a genius by finding some hidden position for these players, but it's having the opposite effect.
  15. Highest number of accurate long passes in the team, and nearly 5 times more key passes than anyone else, suggests that if you're right, the rest of our current team is orders of magnitude worse at it. You can't judge everything off stats, but pushing 5 times the amount of anyone else is surely huge enough to be telling.
  16. Yep. I mean it's largely because under Mowbray our defensive and GK additions have totalled three loans, Leutwiler (always intended as backup) and Bell, I believe, but yep, mind boggling. (Oh and Hart, who was surely only ever seen as a prospect. Point is we haven't even really tried to permanently strengthen this area, apart from probably LB, which is staggering when it's been our weakest area ever since we sold Hanley and Duffy for a mint)
  17. Tribunal, not nothing. But that's still not good enough. I thought we already established there is a 1 year extension option in the club's favour though? Or that might have been Dack.
  18. They can only talk to clubs in a different country at that time.
  19. Enjoying that ecstasy pill?
  20. Well, I'd been starting to think and say that we should only extend his contract if he would take about half his present reputed wage, due to his increasing age and a few signs of slowdown at the end of the season. Then I saw the stats in this article: https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/football-news/blackburn-rovers-downing-contract-transfers-18670814 Stats don't tell the whole story, but... Highest number of accurate long passes of any Rover Second highest short passes (first was Lenihan, mostly easy passing in tons of space at the back) Highest assists (8, which is 2 more than Arma who was second, and is the same as Benrahma and Eze More than TWICE the 'key passes' of any other Rover (again Arma second) 94 accurate crosses - the second highest was only 20!! All whilst shunted around different positions (although that's the Mowbray Mantra). I bet his experience has been valuable behind the scenes too. Makes me wonder if it might be more important to secure another year from him than I thought. I definitely think he started to lull after Jan though, and again, he could become a liability at a moment's notice because of his age. There's also the argument people have made, which I think at times is true, that he slows our play. This possession based stuff isn't working as far as I'm concerned, so maybe we don't need somebody who keeps that ticking, I don't know. The key passes and accurate crosses are two things we already don't do enough of to break teams down though, and he absolutely dominates those stats. It's an interesting one. If, as believed, he is on about 20k a week, I'm not sure we can afford the risk at that price (plus whatever signing on fee), but still. Best thing would certainly be if, in the current climate, he accepted his wage needs to drop dramatically and re-signs more affordably. He probably doesn't really need the money anymore and surely wants to finish his career playing as much football as possible?
  21. I haven't been watching Wigan, and I know they've gone down, but they actually conceded 7 less than us, in fact less than everyone except for 8 of the top 9 placed teams, and their run of clean sheets near the end of the season was phenomenal. It just makes me think their back four and keeper situation has to be worth a close look. I know they had the lad who was Milan-bound, and we obviously have no chance of him, but the rest...Wigan will be very vulnerable to lowball offers right now. Anyway know if they have anyone who could do the job for us? I know a few on here wanted us to get the keeper they signed last summer, Marshall wasn't it?
  22. Fair shout. Don't remember that one specifically but that magic man ripped us up a few times. Still Henry for me, but all these years later I struggle to remember specific performances for anyone. Van Persie and Torres always used to put the fear in me too.
  23. It'll be Henry. That guy used to embarrass us. Terrified me every time he ran with the ball. Not that Vieira wasn't an exceptional player who ran the engine room.
