He is greater than Exeter? Must have put on a lot of weight while he's been out of the picture.

Well that's a first for me, seeing a player signing a new deal wearing their specs. Not sure I've ever seen any photo of a player wearing specs before retirement actually, outside of Edgar Davids which was more shades! Not a very long deal he has signed. Clearly one we intend to review again in the next 6-12 months.

It's all well and good Tony saying Downing gets to go on loan because he wants to...but he certainly stopped Travis and Nuttall getting loan moves in the summer with little intention of playing them here, when they absolutely needed first team action to develop at a crucial stage of their careers. Travis in particular was odd as we had a fuckton of players in that position and there is such a thing as a recall clause. Nuttall was more understandable after Samuel's injury. Obviously it would be crazy to loan him out now when he is having such an impact and looks genuinely first team ready. Especially after refusing him in the summer when the time seemed better. I think Downing being allowed out would also be daft, unless we are planning on signing a highly capable CB first (which I hope we are!). Especially if it means another youngster at a key stage of development, Wharton, has to warm a bench instead of getting a better loan move.

It's very simple what is going on. Injuries. Got nothing to do with him being first team material or not at this stage. You can't be eligible if you can't stay fit.

I thought 'that tackle' was about Myles Anderson, for a mythical tackle in training? Not sure if there was one for Ribeiro.

Ah yes, sorry, that article said last season his loan to Freiburg was cut short. I missed that part. It was late lol

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thisisanfield.com/2019/01/ben-woodburn-returns-to-liverpool-after-disappointing-sheffield-united-loan/amp/ That article has a mention of ourselves, Brentford and Hull enquiring about his availability. Also describes him as a midfielder not a striker. One of Chaddy's old favourites, Ryan Kent, also mentioned in there as having had his loan at Freiburg cut short.

Hearing where? Currently at Sheff U on loan but doesn't seem to be getting many games. If that was to be cancelled it would be so he can get games. Getting a 19 yr old striker on loan from Liverpool to presumably go ahead of our own 7 million quid 19 yr old striker in the pecking order would be...a novel approach. Anyway how is he on the wing?
-
Nor the fact he got in some corkers.

Be lucky to find one that could just pay his wage in full. Maybe Sunderland, if they were even interested.

Totting up rule?
-
Sweet, sweet. Just remind me, how did that work out for Liverpool tonight?

Sorry, I hadn't seen the post above and you didn't quote, so I thought you meant Dack.
-
We're shafting ourselves if he goes for any less in today's market.
-
Not saying much though.

Chapman was similar, arguably slightly faster. In no way was he miles faster. Also, I edited and elaborated a bit after you quoted me.

Are you joking? He's wick as. Absolutely toasted the WBA fullback over and over. They subbed him off in the end because he couldn't cope. Fastest player we have by a long shot, and fastest we've had for quite some time. Hell it's pretty much his only attribute. His issue is he doesn't know how to make the most of it. He's so predictable with his kick and rush dribbling approach that most defenders are ready for it, which probably makes him seem slightly slower than he is. He needs to mix it up.

You can definitely get a quick striker for £7 million. We got one for £2-3 million. We just have no interest in playing him there.

I'm wondering whether this might be a sign that Nuttall won't get a loan deal...if he was leaving, there'd be another slot up front opening up in the youth team. Sending him back seems to suggest that no cover is needed there. Although it may simply mean we don't want to make a financial commitment to Candlin as we don't rate him, or that another young forward is coming in. We will see what happens, but Joe definitely needs a loan deal for me (an appearance or two off the bench until that happens wouldn't go amiss either...think he and Brereton should swap roles, as Ben needs match sharpness and Nuttall has done more to earn a crack at the moment).

It sounds like one, possibly two loans. With a view to 12 million or so in the summer... I'd rather not spend big on Gallagher personally. He's decent and has potential but nothing special yet. Don't object to loaning him.
-
I was one of seemingly very few who didn't especially rate him during his loan period either. Didn't see what the fuss was, or why we were willing to spend that much on him. Given how many people thought he was class at the time though, maybe I was missing something.

You're obviously very irate about it, but I watched it very carefully and he definitely caught him with his foot after the initial contact-which-wasn't, at which point the lad went down. I don't know which one the officials gave it for, and it doesn't matter what play-acting happened after (as pathetic as it is to clutch his ear). Overall I do think it was a penalty, but soft. I feel the best argument for it not being one is actually that he seemed to have lost the ball already, but you can be penalised for an off-the-ball foul anyway. I also think there is an inconsistency from the ref in that he didn't give us one when Armstrong was shoved off the ball at the byline.

Most games don't feature a team two or three down at half time. Anyway, we all know we are a team who do solidly in the first half and capitulate in the last 20 minutes. Credit to us doing well defensively in the first 70, but we have to stop crumbling at the end. Sometimes it is Mowbray's fault, sometimes it is individual players, sometimes it is sheer bad luck or the opposition doing well, but overall it is something we need to and must work on. I feel today's comes under the bad luck category personally. Solid result though today.
