Giving the Clogg another try at weekend, long time since I been and places seem to have overtaken it and left it behind a little.

Went in a few Saturday's back, about 1pm. Was heaving.

I enjoyed it, though there is so much competiton now, can't afford to drop your standards.

I'm not sure how performances under Lambert, particularly towards the end of his stint, could have "boded well for the following season"!

They didn't, towards the end of his stint it was obvious he was going (the fact he hadn't bothered moving out of his hotel was another giveaway).

  3. Well I wasn't actually, I was more impressed with the overall performance, it all boded well for the following season.

The Lambert era was a disappointment, the fella didn't want to be here, but comparing his 5 months with Bowyer's three seasons of failure (who was blessed with better players) is a tad unfair, no?

  4. Always amazes me how poor people's memories are.

This time last year we actually looked a side, beat Boro at Ewood, should have beat Burnley, but more importantly I saw a team that looked fit, with shape, with a system for the first time in years.

Then as soon as I began to dream again, it seemed to dissipate. Now   I'm not privy to what went on behind the scenes, but it seems fairly clear that he had decided to leave- and performances dropped off markedly.

Bowyer was a poor manager, someone who couldn't get a tune out of a squad, whose quality we are unlikely to see again and after Gestede et al had departed, had us hurtling towards relegation.

The whole Lambert era was a wasted opportunity and more fool him if he expected backing from these owners, but no better than Gary Bloody Bowyer? Do me a favour!

  5. I was in the gym t'other day and a music channel was on one of the TVs.

What's hapenned to music videos? All looked like low budget affairs, mainly just graphics, with the lyrics of the songs plastered across the screen.

Is this down to the fact that kids today just stream?

I haven't read all of this thread but this one and the Next Manager thread seemed keen on Nigel Adkins amongst others.

Mowbray is seen as a disastrous appointment - without looking in to it deeply he was successful at Boro and Coventry before being sacked by both. He's been sacked twice in the past four years.

Adkins had good success at Southampton before being sacked. He was sacked after failing at Reading and Sheffield Utd. Sacked three times in five years.

Not much difference between the two except one was seen as a saviour and the other, now, as a disaster. Neither view based on logic.

I can't help feel most fans would have criticised any appointment, just as they do every other action the club takes.

Not sure he was a 'success' at Coventry, left them bottom of the league. However, he seems well thought of by Cov fans, as they realise the basket case they are.

In fairness to posters, I think it was the initial shock of the leftfield appointment, as the day wore on people seemed to be warming to the idea.

He seems to start well at most clubs, and a 10 week burst is exactly what we need. Though what chance he'll have long term with these owners...

This has been going on for 7yrs Pete, if you don't get it now you never will.

I'm all for supporting the new manager, but lets face it, its another disastrous appointment for a shambles of a club heading into league 1 and administration.

But hey, support your club

League 1 certainly, administration? Just can't see it...

We know for a fact that the club is exerting significant influence at the Telegraph. As the Telegraph are wholly reliant on the club to spoonfeed them interviews and information they have probably been threatened with a ban from press conferences if they don't print favourable interviews or change things to suit the club.

So what? It would be great publicity for the LT if they did.

'We are here to serve the local community like we have done for 100 years. We our journalists, not spokespeople and we will pour our resources into investigating the club, on behalf, of you, our loyal readers'

Sounds a better back page than

'Coyle: We've (nearly) turned the Corner'

  9. No real issue with Saffers playing for England if they have family ties.

Cricket is nowhere near as bad as Rugby Union with its 3 year residency rule- lads ususally from Fiji/Samoa/Tonga with zero connection to England/NZ/Aus pitch up for the dosh, decimating their countries game whilst at it.

  10. There are, of course, more pressing matters for the powers that be at Ewood Park to deal with. Four weeks have passed since Kean resigned and the search for a new manager appears no nearer a solution. However, of greater concern must be the fact that the departure of Kean has not seen the crowds return to Ewood Park and there is no doubt that the general dissatisfaction and disillusionment with Venky's is having a damaging financial impact at the club. Advertising hoardings are still empty, a shirt sponsor is still lacking, match sponsorship appears at an all-time low and, of course, the fans are still staying away.

Apologies for quoting you years later Parson! But oh for the days of 13,000 crowds ay?

To lose 10,000 fans in a summer was tragic for the club- the legacy of it still haunts us now.

Sacking Kean straight after the Wigan game would have given us a fighting chance of maintaining a decent level of support- another horrendous botch job by these owners.

  11. But just 10 years ago, Darwen was poor and Blackburn was still a decent(ish) night out.

However, the opening of the Bridgewater was the catalyst for what you see today (obviously helped by Blackburn's nightlife folding almost overnight).

Blackburn could rise again with such a catalyat, the old cinema would have been perfect for a large bar to help reinvigorate the night time economy, however I always get the feeling that this isn't a priority with the powers that be.

  12. I'm aware of how the adaptation process works and the constraints of the TV show, but what they have adapted is crap. Sure, I'm a book snob about certain things and there are plenty of nitpicks, but the bottom line is... Game of Thrones isn't a good show. It's stupidly popular, but then so are the Kardashians. HBO have taken an epic fantasy saga, rich in lore and complex characters and turned it into poorly written schlock devoid of any nuance of understanding of the source material. And that's fine for your average TV viewer because they don't have the reference point and don't know any better. As long there's enough cheap shocks and titties on screen, then nothing else matters!
As for GRRM's approval, he's had less and less involvement on the show. I don't think he's even written an episode since Season 4. I've even heard that he's made a few ambiguous comments on his blog about the direction of the show. Although that's more fool him for selling out when he knew he was never going to finish the books in time. Not that his bank balance is hurting for it.

Season 1 and 2 were fairly faithful to the books, since then they have gone off piste to quite a large extent.

Personally I think the disjointed, cumbersome tome that is A Feast for Crows is a reason for them diverting heavily away from the books from about season 4 . The first three books were well written, 'Crows is just a mess- page after page of Martin at his rambling worst.

  13. TJ has a point re non Kings Landing/North story lines- I was surprised they went back to the Iron Islands, bit of a borefest, they've made a complete hash of Dorne, not convinced by the Meereen stuff and the Ayra storyline needs to get a move on.
