  1. Entirely understandable that he did not play. The fairly short term ex-girlfriend I couldn't understand but his dad .... that's completely different. Even the fact that he'd not been well for some time doesn't take away the shock and sadness of the actual death as those who have lost a parent will know. Best wishes to Benni.
  2. Perhaps it's improved. It's certainly been pretty good the last few times we've been
  3. La Scala A59 between 6 and 7 pm does 3 courses for £9.95. Went last week. decor nice. Kids welcome. Service a bit slow (leisurely rather than useless) but last time we went we told them we were pressed for time and they did do things quicker. Thoroughly enjoyed by all our family.
  4. Why did his problems start when Ince walked in? He didn't do anything much last season when Hughes was here either. Did Ince tell him to sort himself out and he didn't like it?
  5. I wasn't fed up but I'd lost a bit of the excitement of going down to Ewood that Hughes had given us. The Newcastle job coming up and our dip in form showed that Hughes had lost focus and wasn't showing the drive and determination to get our team motivated again. Hughes had begun to look harrassed and seemed to have no real answers. I was gutted when he went but that's just attachment to what you know like abused wives sticking with husbands who beat them - we're all scared that change will be worse, and forget that sometimes it can be better. Mark Hughes was the right man at the time but that time was coming to an end, if not then then by the end of this season. I'm looking froward not back. It might be a bumpy ride but it could just be great.
  6. Not if you'd just taken the job the day before and wanted nice bucket loads of cash to spend you wouldn't. You'd smile nicely for the cameras and do what you were told. It's alright hoping you'd have stood up for what you knew was right but very few people do, particularly in the situation where you have to persuade yourself you've made a correct decision even when you suspect you haven't.
  7. If you were going to work for a nutter wouldn't you toe the party line?
  8. I think it's because we see things one way and football managers and players see it another. Like you I felt that there was a bond between Hughes and the fans and I think it suited him to let us feel that. I don't think his leaving is because all the time he's been lying to us. I think there really was something there but not as much as we wanted there to be. There never will be unless, like shearer at Newcastle, you're at the club you support. Hughes was not a rovers fan, but a rovers' employee and, whilst you have to buy into the club ethos a bit to be able to work for them properly, you are not one of the fans.
  9. If he were on his way out of West Ham it would presumably be because they couldn't pay his wages nad not that many other teams would be prepared to match them so he's probably going to have to take a cut wherever he goes.
  10. Was just about to post something very similar. Duff should not be brought back. There's no room for sentiment if you want to progress in today's game. He was brilliant for us but we eventually got over losing him and to bring him back now would be a mistake.
  11. Personally I'd rather have mark Hughes than any other manager i can think of who might be likely to come to us. Yes, he makes mistakes, yes his team selections are sometimes odd or appear so to us, yes, he's still learning his trade. However, I think he suits us as he doesn't live in dreamland like some managers and some of our fans seem to. He gets on with his job and doesn't whinge most of the time. He has the respect of the players and seems to have the sometimes oversized egos largely under control. He's brought through 2 players to England call ups who were nowhere near England quality at the time they joined us and his transfer dealings have been amazing in terms of the quality of player we have seen at ewood for the amount we have spent. don't suppose eddie will agree though!
  12. One could equally ask with some of the rubbish West Ham have been playing recently why was he drinking at all? We need him playing better than ever if they are going to stop Villa.
  13. Agreed and much nicer looking for your money too. It used to be good enough for Rovers players a few years back.
  14. Of course he would. Typical ex big club player. It makes it all the sweeter when they can't ignore us because we're just too good and achieve something they don't expect. They get really uptight too when our players say they are happy at Rovers, becasue of course nobody can be happy playing for a well-run club with a good young manager who actually plays you every game while you keep performing, can they?
  15. The MOTD producer we know is not a fan of a big club though. He's a Boro fan. There is more than one producer and presumably there is someone else telling the guys who actually put the show out what they should show. As has been said before too many of the general public are fans of the big 4 because that's what they get fed and they don't care enough about football to demand anything else and so they want more big 4 coverage and so on and so on. If you want viewers it's no good saying Rooney is rubbish and deserved to be sent off yesterday. Real Man U fans know that and are questioning him all over the message boards but plastic fans and neutrals believe media hype and don't want to hear criticism of their heroes.
  16. Didn't I read too that he'd missed some of the course and so there was some doubt as to whether he could complete his qualifications in time anyway.
  17. Personally as a female, I can't see what they fall for. The guy wears built up shoes for heaven's sake. Something seriously wrong with his self esteem.
  18. Personally I still have to turn off TV when he appears, because the sight of him makes me physically sick and I can't stand his voice and his teeth are awful. He still talks about making occasions when he means chances or opportunities and while, being a linguist myself, I can see why, I do feel somebody must have corrected him enough times for him to have got it right by now.My daughter went to one of his press conferences recently. Ended up in the front row and had to work very hard at not giggling every time he spoke.
  19. Thing is, have you seen how small david Bentley is? and what about Aaron Lennon? But they do their best to sty on their feet, and even Ronaldo the arch-diver has realised that you do far better most of the time if you stay on your feet. Then when you are fouled, wherever on the pitch it happens, you stand more chance of getting what you deserve. Think back to Jansen who looked like a puff of wind would blow him away but he would get chopped down, keep the ball get up and run on. All this excuse about Johnson being small and light weight is a myth put out by Everton fans to try to influence people in Johnson's favour. And if he retires over the fact that he doesn't get free kicks as often as he thinks he should then he still hasn't grown up from when he was a kid at Birmingham.
  20. Still think, looking at those clips, that we need to get his hair dyed again as they are nearly all scored when he had blonde hair.
  21. Daughter had apology from MOTD editor who said he wasn't in work that day because he's doing today's show and that words had been said to those responsible.
  22. My daughter, who knows the MOTD producer, who is not a dingle fan but a Boro fan, is contacting him personally to complain.
  23. Presumably though England won't go with the same players as this time either. Only McClaren could have though that going back to the midfield that had repeatedly failed us was progress. A competent manager with new players who are playing regularly, not for their teams reserves occasionally when they can't find anyone else, must stand a chance in this group. Not easy but could have been nastier.
