v Millwall (h) - 8/3/22
garnersfags replied to Uddersfelt Blue's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I thought Lenihan was out but, somehow, Saturday's yellow was only his 9th. A tough Millwall side should tease at least a yellow from him tonight, and probably the same with Trav. I can't see how we can keep the back 3 without Lenihan, it will definitely give Bristol a boost. And Derby? The absence of Nyambe is killing us, I wonder if he would sign if we offer him more money? Anyone heard if Khadra recovered, TM said they would look at him today and decide? -

This is a good point. We haven't mentioned Trav n Lenihan's suspension tightrope. They could (will?) both be missing on Saturday, and next Tuesday. Will be interesting to see whether that means a dreaded (for me) return to a back four. -

I tried to word my post to make it clear I was only referring to those ticket-holders that were able to go, but didn't attend because they thought we'd get beat, or just couldn't be bothered. I know there are good reasons why many can't attend on a Tuesday. My point was more about how enjoyable it has been at Ewood since October. -

I can't see us losing tonight, based on our form since the 2nd half at Brammall Lane. Of course we may get beat, but based on recent history, and facts, I would expect us to get a point, and very possibly 3 points. I'm worried that this (possibly justified) pessimism is keeping a thousand or so fans away from Ewood, including many ticket-holders. For a number of people I know, it's just too much trouble. The atmosphere since October has been positive, often jubilant, and generally upbeat, based on passion for the club, AND performances on the pitch. I implore anyone with a ticket to head down to Ewood tonight, you won't be disappointed. -

Is this what you predicted for the QPR game? -

I think he'll play Rothwell behind Gally and Dolan. It's so difficult to know what line-up will re-light the blue touch-paper. The one thing we are sure about is that Tony doesn't know either. Having to wait until he accidentally finds the right formula, like he did after the Fulham game, is increasingly painful. There would be some symmetry in starting an 11 game winning run after a defeat to Fulham. We can but dream.... -

Has anyone got an update on when the yellow card reset kicks-in? I think Trav n Darra currently on 9. This for me is as important as getting BBD back. -

I like this plan, but we know he'll play Gally. Giles should play, but he won't want to shatter Pickering's confidence by leaving him out. But yes, I'd be happy with either Gally or Hedges with Giles at wing-back... -

I can understand this concern, but I predict that we will get 7 points from the 3 home games. The only reason that the 3 games are being discussed is because they will define our run-in. Did the 3 game doubters predict that we would dominate and beat QPR? Many of us did. If we manage 9 points from the 3 games in 8 days, there will be no pressure on the Reading game, which will help us steal 3 more vital points. The discussion is how vital these games are, not whether we'll win them all. -

I agree with 'Niko that we should judge the season after the next 4 critical games. I agree with both sides of this discussion, but what we could have done better is for review in May/June, but all we can do now is be positive, especially at Ewood, and collectively see where we can get to. At the QPR game, there were 2 fans behind me that criticised and despaired at nearly everything we did, and I really felt that they had been affected by the general pessimistic, negative vibe that has been steadily growing across social media. I have been really really disappointed by our form since half time on 2nd Jan, but I have seen the genuine shoots of recovery since Brammall Lane, and am prepared to stay optimistic, at least for the 3 uber-critical home games. Don't worry, I'll still criticise individual selections, and performances, but like Superniko and many others, I think we'll do enough against these 11 less able sides. -

Too many of TMs starting selections are based on an educated hunch about what may work. Giles, for example, plays well for 20 min as a sub left wing back, so therefore he starts the next game on the right wing. After his good showing against QPR, I would have played him at left wing back, and that would have been an interesting clash with Wilson. I like Travis and Johnson in midfield but that means Trav often has the ball at his feet with one pass to split their defence, and 19 times out of 20 he can't do it. We probably need Trav 'or' Johnson, not both, but for me both have more than contributed to our impressive season. We won't be as comprehensively outplayed again this season, and we can take the momentum of the 2nd half into thes 3 pivotal home games. My main worry is a Lenihan suspension, without Ayala or Nyambe to slot seamlessly in. I think the team that started against QPR will start against Millwall, which is now a tough game as they've won 5 in a row. If we get 8 points from the next 4 games, we'll cement our 4th position, maybe 3rd. Ten points is preferable, but that will only happen if BBD plays and returns to form. If you are wavering about coming to the next 3 games, JFDI, the atmosphere is brilliant, and will only improve with another 1000 Neil Diamond's. Our mid-table strugglers will find it easier to turn it on against these lower level opponents, and that includes scoring. Trust me, I was just as sure about beating QPR. A 3pm Saturday game next week should bring out the punters, maybe not from Bristol, but we will cheer the lads onto victory. -

Yes, but a Luton win dents Middlesbro's push. There are enough negatives without us going looking for more. We will be in the top six tonight. Sorry if that disappoints... -

We bossed the 2nd half, good momentum to steam-roller into Millwall. I'd play Hedges instead if Gally. These next 4 victories will cement our place on the play-offs. Glad our brilliant fans had something to sing about in the 2nd half. -

Yep, the result is not down to Gally, he played as well as he can. -

Lenihan has actively chosen to be suspended with that stupid, half-way line rugby tackle. Just dumb, and another example of lack of composure and intelligence. Spoiled a good 2nd half performance. -

Mitrovich is a very unpleasant player. He is a cheat. It's ugly. He could've earned 2 yellow cards for his cynicism and cheating. Ref has been weak. Gally playing well, until the penalty area.... -

Every time Dolan or Khadra get the ball, they are automatically programmed to try 3 tricks, drag-backs, step-overs, whether there is an opposition player there or not. Its school yard stuff. Dolan is there to press, but when he wins it, he hasn't a clue what to do with it, apart from immediately go into exhibition you-tube mode. It's hard to watch. Men against boys. Unfortunately Hedges must come on, to stretch them, and show some honesty. A strong, disciplined 1st 10 minutes, and we go again. It's not over until the 3rd goes in. -

JRC will never be a footballer. Please someone argue with me. Hectried to gift them another by dribbling out of defence, into a brick wall. We're unlucky that we've had to play him, it's not his fault. This has been soooo disappointing. We look so inept, esp going forward... -

Not our best day so far. Looks like he didn't watch the Fulham v Huddersfield game. Need the players to do this now, despite the tinkering. Pickering being left exposed against Wilson. I warned you! Come on, boys! -

Pickering v Wilson us like Edun v Wilson at Ewood. He must put Giles there, and bring Hedges or Buckley on. I'll take a point now 😉 -

Khadra struggling today. Don't think he's injured, but now we're losing, he needs to keep the ball, and pass intelligently. I'm not holding my breath.... -
