  1. Exactly . Benni threw a wobbler after being left on the bench ......how much time would he spend on UTD'S bench ? And how many wobblers would Fergy tolerate ? Having said that , a money + Saha deal would be ok if the worst came to the worst ....
  2. I think , after signing a £425 million deal over 4 years , they can just about afford it ..... Can they afford not to is more the question ?
  3. So laid back he reminds me of Clement Freud's dog , Henry ....
  4. A couple of years too late more like ....but that's McClaren carrying on the Sven mistakes ! Lardy Lampard is better off on the bench .........along with Dumpy Dunn if there's enough room
  5. Maybe they'd just end up something like the rest of us who aren't pro footballers .....a bit of all sorts ; rich , poor , happy , unhappy etc...
  6. Two ways of looking at it . 1 - He could be well capable of adding another 5 + at least on top of the 20 with more application . 2 - Ferguson and co will stay clear of someone with such a laid back attitude . Can't complain too much on balance I suppose ...
  7. "Thumbs up" Len Fairclough had the perfect alibi ......he was at the swimming baths
  8. Always entertaining at least ... Jonathan Pearce has come a long , long way since his early contrived broadcasts and is about the best around . Motson is quite simply the worst commentator of any sport and more or less ruins any game he "works" on . How he could learn from the great retired Barry Davies on letting the game be seen without all the superfluous inane comments . Ian Wright is as incoherent as he is immature ....but at least he was a decent player who is passionate about the English game . He also has a very nice colour of skin ....
  9. Well that's it , then .....I'm sticking to KitKats from now on .
  10. Entirely ridiculous assumption . It is those scientists who question the prevailing theories who are "out in the cold" and left without the ample funding provided by governments and the UN etc ....As I mentioned earlier those scientists in the programme (which you presumably still haven't seen) received no funding from either Big Power & Industry - nor the churches for that matter . They are not in anyone's back pocket . As for the non-scientific detractors of GW (or should I repeat yet again for your benefit the detractors of the human contribution toward GW) ......well , I can only hope that the Big Power companies knock a few quid of my bills for my contribution to their cause ... Anyway , Col , if you ever open your mind enough to watch the programme I'll read with interest your detailed anaysis of why the theories put forward are all wrong and how it's all a Big Power and Industry conspiracy
  11. I take your point , Bucky . My reply was aimed at Philipl who stupidly advocates the legalisation of all drugs without thinking for a moment of the consequences of such an action . It does seem daft , though , to start legalising even the class C drugs when the government are (supposedly) clamping down on fags , junk food etc
  12. Very disturbing . Perhaps that sheepskin rug in a previous lifetime had suffered a similar experience ....
  13. Impossible . All those sons and daughters need jobs , feeding , clothing etc etc . How can this be done if not by exploiting the natural resources of the earth ? The only way we can remain static is by curbing the mania for economic growth ....which in turn can only be achieved by ending population growth . That's the bottom line ...but looking at the main item on the news today we have a concencus by Cameron and Blair that the best way forward is to change the light bulbs....
  14. The usual nonsense ; let's legalise ALL harmful substances just because some harmful substances (alcohol) are already legal . Sounds great .......until you realise that the government would be colluding in selling and distributing substances that are far , far more dangerous and addictive than alcohol . Heroin , crack cocaine ...where if anywhere do we draw the line ? Who pays for these hard , addictive drugs ? Are the zombified addicts going to start working for a living to pay for them ? They don't now ....so the obvious conclusion is that the state is simply going to take over the role of the drug dealers . Either that or they are going to literally give the drugs away to all who want them . Would that lower or raise the demand for the product ? Anyone in the real world would know it would be the latter . Some might even be happy at that proposition , but even leaving aside the fact that the government is actively harming the health and well-being of its own citizens , what are the legal implications ? The government would leave itself wide open to lawsuits from those effected by the harmful substances that have reduced their sons and daughters to drug ravaged wrecks . Is this really the role of a government in the 21st century - to dope and destroy the lives of its most vulnerable citizens ? Some of us would prefer they tried to give meaning to the lives of such people . Finally , the cost . Who is going to pay for it all ? Yes , policing costs and crime would go down - but on the down side we would have hundreds of thousands of people who would undoubtedly , IMO , go from cradle to grave without working and paying into the system . They would remain on addictive drugs all their adult lives (and presumably pre-adult lives also ) - with not even the threat of the legal sytem (such as it is) to incentivise them to better themselves . Not a good idea for the tax payer who has to fund the whole system of allowing junkies to dream their lives away . Not a bad idea , however , if you live in tax exile on a Mediterranean island ....
  15. Oh dear . I really do despair at the closed minds of some people . Try watching the programme and THEN comment using evidence that you believe disproves the theory . Talking about why the programme was shown is irrelevant . And as I said in my previous post - and which you clearly did not read or understand properly for some reason - I'm quite willing to concede that ALL of the scientific community have an accord that GW is real . To reiterate , it is the extent of the human participation in that GW that is at question . Science isn't all about who has the majority view or who has the fashionable view - if that was the case then Galileo and Darwen would have been lost to history (......condemned , no doubt , by non thinkers such as yourself , I'm afraid , Col) Science is about theories backed up by evidence and the documentary helped to make up my mind for the present at least . It did help that I actually watched the programme , of course.........
  16. Colin . No-one disputes that there has been an increase in GW in recent decades . What is in dispute are the causes of it , and whether or not the human contribution to it all is significant or is indeed a factor at all . Also in question (on the documantary) are the reasons behind the GW bandwagon that seems to be rolling out of control for no logical or truly scientific reason whatsoever . Did you watch the programme ? I suspect not .
  17. None of the scientists who took part were funded in any way by the multi nationals . Others with the prevailing fashionable view , on the other hand , are reliant on national government , EU , UN grants etc , for their very existence..... I have to say that prior to this programme I did believe we were part of the problem of global warming but not to the extent to which the "hysterics" claimed - and I truly went into it all with an open mind . However , this documentary provided the greatest debunking of a widely held theory that I have ever seen in my life . The facts are indisputable ; for example , global warming is not caused by CO2 emissions - in fact it's the very opposite !! Another myth was that carbon fuels - coal , oil , etc - are due to run out anytime soon (even I believed this one and have quoted it on this very thread !) . 30 years is usually the figure seemingly plucked out of thin air by the scientists ........but the documentary producer on R5 today quoted "his" scientists that the true figure for coal deposits (at the current rate of use) was no less than 1,000 years ! ! And so we have the Greenpeace warriors (always looking for a cause to fight) and the politicians (always looking for new scources of taxation) in an unholy alliance to con us all in believing that we are on the edge of an abyss . Not only that but they are colluding in keeping the third world in a pre-industrial state - destined to live on the brink of famine and poverty because our elite have the crazy belief that the use of fossil fuels will drag them down with us . Combine this with the fact that we are forever stripping them of their human resources - doctors , engineers etc and we have a state of affairs that is worse than old style colonialism - all based on a false theory . It was Goebbels who used to say that the bigger the lie you tell the people , the more they'll believe it . Well , we are being lied to on a scale that would put the Doctor to shame .......I hope that when the kids in our schools receive their free Al Gore video on global warming their parents realise they are being indoctrinated into a belief system that is as false and damaging than any that Mao or Stalin dished up . What chance that the kids get to see the C4 documantary in school time ...? One last point . I still believe strongly that it is in our interest to get away from fossil fuels - for many reasons , not least that it would loosen our dependancy on the middle East . But first we have to get the facts straight and dispense with the lies and myths .
  18. I'll drag this thread back up to the top in order to alert those capable of judging the matter objectively without bowing hysterically before the latest , fashionable PC outpourings from the media , of an interesting programme on C4 tomorrow night called "The Great Global Warming Swindle" (9pm) . I'm sure the ex-poster Jack would have done this ; unfortunately the unwarranted abuse he has suffered (from administrative level downwards I'm afraid to say ) seems to have persuaded him to leave the messageboard ......
  19. Liverpool could be exactly the kind of club to sniff about - they're not overloaded with striking talent at the moment .
  20. Careful , Scotty ....I nearly got in trouble on here for suggesting that
  21. No point having real quality , Drog , if you're brushed off the ball every time the wind gets up a bit ....
  22. It's obvious to me that McCarthy is a far more gifted player than Nonda , for example - technically very good , but with a greater work ethic he could be better . You can be good and still be a work horse and stretch defenders even more . I wonder how many miles Shearer covered .... Having said all that I don't want to sound over critical . Like USA Blue said , the interview seemed postive as a whole . Maybe he'd agree with me that there's room for improvement .
  23. I see that under the pro zone system BM is calculated to be doing "a couple of miles" a game . I'd like to see him do a bit more , and wonder how this compares to other strikers . I seem to remember years and years ago Colin Bell has a speedo fitted to him during a game - he did 5 miles .
