Well said Sir . I'll go for 0-0 .....

Has it never occured to you that it is deliberate (but unspoken) Government policy to "urbanise" the greenfield sites ? We've seen with the fox hunting debacle just how much many labour politicians are still motivated by the class war they began when still students back in the 70's . Prescott is a classic example .........

Isn't flu short for influenza ? Where's Dr Rich ? You'd think by now they'd have invented cheap and easy ways of desalienating(?) sea water .

Maybe the clubs should put the prices up to £50 . That way fewer people would go , you would have less chance of drunkards sitting next to you , and the police and stewards wouldn't have to turn up at all ...... Mind you , Alan - you'd probably be outnumbered by the players..... -
[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?

We might have won one more........but I suppose there can be attacking variations of the 4-5-1 . Hughes' version against Newcastle with Mokeano (sp) present wasn't suitable against the geordies' obvious lack of quality . I'd have liked to have seen Tugay play - maybe even in front of the middle 4 if we had to play a non 4-4-2. Still it's too late now .... -
One line stands out for me in the second of the links given above ....."On the one hand, global oil demand is, for the first time in history, eclipsing global oil supply." If that is true , then the rest of the article is just a daft point scoring exercise against Bush and co - and the US population at large for having "gas guzzling" cars ( I wonder if the article's author owns a car ..) The real problem in years to come will be when China and India (and maybe Africa) really start to get into the globalisation economic system and up their use of the remaining oil supplies . Taking into account the fact that politicians will never have the resolve to tackle the obvious problem of world overpopulation (instead most are encouraging the opposite viewpoint to solve relatively short term problems) , the only other solution that will not lead to war is to develop new scources of energy . Maybe it's time for all of the world powers - not just the scapegoat America - to meet and come up with radical solutions to the problems . It's not just Bush to blame , everyone who owns a car is part of the problem - even Guardian readers.

[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?

I hope this is the public spin on events and that privately he thinks differently - if not I despair . The Newcastle game , tactics wise and team selection , was for me the most depressing game since the opener a couple of seasons back against WBA(?) . Souness learnt nothing from that . Hopefully Hughes will . -

That's a good way of looking at it . I'm not going - I'll stay away and claw back a tenner from the £500 they conned from me at the beginning of the season (£16 if I include the kids ) -
A better - and less fascistic way if you wish to talk in such silly terms - would be by financial and taxation penalties or incentives . For example a very generous child benefit for the first child , buggerall for the second , and a swift kick in the balls for the third..... (Well maybe two of the above ) Like it or not , sooner or later measures will have to be taken .

Slightly unfair , Scotty - at least the Drog is putting forward a suggestion to problems that will decimate the likes of Rovers in the coming decades . Having said that , I would under no circumstances follow a Lancashire Utd - the tradition simply isn't there for people of my generation . Whether succeeding generations find the idea appealing is a different matter - remember we are talking in terms of decades . Disregarding the commercial aspects that are affecting the game the sad and unavoidable truth is that in the next 30 years or so demographic factors alone will mean clubs like Burnley , Blackburn , Bury , Oldham , Preston etc etc will either have to attract Asian fans from within or "indigenous" fans from way beyond the areas where the current grounds stand . (Or both) . I can't see either happening . Personally I'll be surprised if the Rovers exist in 50 years time - not that it will matter to me ...... -
So terrifying , in fact , that the relevant powers should be discussing and putting into action the process of depopulating the planet (by peaceful means obviously ) It has been mentioned on here before that Greepeace* have estimated that the ideal population in terms of sustainability in the UK is 30 million . Maybe we should take a lead and bring about policies to ensure this in the forseeable future . No immigration , limit on size of families etc ... I'd support such policies - but would all those on here who seem content to point the finger solely at the Yanks do so ..... ? * Or was it the Green Party ?

[Archived] Poll - Falling Attendances.

That's correct . Apart from the top few clubs who have a chance of winning something there will be a downward spiral in attendances that will only be stopped by slashing prices . Even Sky can't exist on a few big clashes a season with absolutely no interest in mid table games . Gate prices will fall eventually - especially when the big clubs leave the prem (or are told to leave ) by those other clubs who will no longer tolerate their greed . They are not as powerful as they - and many other clubs - seem to think. IMO they are perfectly expendable and the sooner they are put into line the better . -
In relation to this thread I wouldn't spell it drunk or sober .....

Hopefully the wonderful , intelligent Ms Condaleeza Rice . It might be a bit difficult branding her as a dumb , southern hating racist .....

Not literally I hope ......? Wouldn't surprise me , though , wingeing Aussies ..

I wish you'd tell Flopsy that .....

But can't you see that it's the innocent and poor (largely) of both cities you mention who always suffer ? They aren't resonsible for anything . Unless , of course , you hold the citizens of New Orleans directly responsible for their Governments' actions - in which case Bush was perfectly entitled to wage war on Sadaam's subjects....

The working class !! Britain "almost" on Adolf's side ? Have you been reading Stalin's version of the war and its build up ? The closet we would have come to being on his side was if the Fuhrer had been sat behind the desk at Downing St and dictated policy . Still , nice to know that those workers , Churchill , Attlee , Eden , Chamberlain et al prevailed in the end .....

OK then ....
