Yes. Still misses sitters, occasionally hogs the ball and one season does not make a super star. He really has improved this season, but he's still half the player Sane is. To say he should be starting as a striker ahead of Kane is..... unconventional and a risk to be polite. Up until the season just gone Sterling was an over rated flash luxury with no end product.

But like you say, he's still young and has time to improve.

Statistically sterling is a better player than sane

For me this season he has been coached by Guardiola to be in the right positions at the right times, ie within 8-10 yards of goal. Pep knows he can coach a team to put the ball in these areas on a regular basis, and Sterling has benefited from it massively.

It's a wise choice all things considered as he's not the best passer, crosser or dribbler yet has the pace and agility to get into these positions so the technically better players can find him.

Hes an extremely good dribbler..thats one of the things i hate about him when he plays for england..he takes the easy option and passes it short when he should be taking his man on.

He was extremely good for liverpool in their near title win season

Heres me wanting to use Kane as an impact sub and Gareth Southagate goes and names Kane his captain.

That's definitely floored my expectations for England.

You really are talking some utter bull now..i cant tell if you are a parody or for real

Argentina's 23 has been named. There's no place for Mauro Icardi. He scored 29 goals in Serie A this season Not surprising though with the riches at their disposal. Unfortunately their defensive options are scant.

Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero, Willy Caballero, Franco Armani

Defenders: Gabriel Mercado, Javier Mascherano, Nicolas Otamendi, Federico Fazio, Marcos Rojo, Nicolas Tagliafico, Marcos Acuna, Cristian Ansaldi

Midfielders: Manuel Lanzini, Maximiliano Meza, Lucas Biglia, Ever Banega, Giovani Lo Celso, Angel Di Maria, Cristian Pavon, Eduardo Salvio

Forwards: Paulo Dybala, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain

    Great forwards..mediocre everywhere else

Who achieved nothing under so called 'top managers'.

Let's embrace south gates new approach and see how it goes. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Maybe after this world cup, some of our players will be viewed in similar awe as the Germans on this thread.

    Really hope so

Compared to ours, their midfield options are frightening .....

Midfielders: Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Mesut Ozil (Arsenal), Sami Khedira (Juventus), Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich), Sebastian Rudy (Bayern Munich), Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund), Leon Goretzka (Schalke), Leroy Sane (Manchester City), Julian Draxler (Paris Saint-Germain), Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City), Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen)

Every one of those would walk into our first 11.

Whats your point? We know germany are light years ahead of england..blame the greed of the premierleague and its clubs..german players are rife in the bundersliga then they go abroad which makes more room for new generation of german players to come through whilst prem clubs buy up top foreign players including germans making our youngsters obselete!

    Here is the Mirror's predicted squad;

    GOALKEEPERS Pickford, Butland, Pope

DEFENDERS Trippier, Walker, Stones, Jones, Maguire, Rose, Young

MIDFIELDERS Dier, Henderson, Delph, Livermore, Lallana, Loftus-Cheek, Alli, Sterling, Lingard

    ATTACKERS Kane, Vardy Rashford, Welbeck

It's very similar my effort from a few days ago with the only changes being Jones for Tarkowski, and Young for Bertrand.

Contentious names seems to be Delph and Livermore in, Shelvey and Wilshere out.

Wilshere has had potential for years but never fulfilled it, and I don't think that Shelvey was ever getting a look in.

England doesn't have the best defence. It needs protecting so Wilshere is being sacrificed for Livermore. Kane, Sterling, Vardy, Rashford, Lingard, Lallana, and Alli are capable to causing problems for any team.

That is a rancid squad if true

Yes, only players you can say with your hand on your heart are international quality are Kane, Sterling and Walker. Everyone else are decent enough, but more laboure than arte really. Lingard has shown something to be fair.

Pickford had an absolute shocker against West Ham which is worrying.

I think France, Germany, Brazil, Spain etc. are not too bothered by us, and who can blame them.

If Southgate gets us to the quarters he will have done very well.

I would say rashford is definately more arte than labour

Tan was your typical clueless foreign owner who thought he could come in, change a few things and be taking on the big boys. Seems like he's learned some hard lessons and got it right eventually.

Venky's first few years had a much more sinister and complex edge to them, as evidenced by the leaked files re: Kentaro, as well as those Shebby Singh emails. After that they fall into the clueless foreign owner category but didn't seem to learn much, if the Owen Coyle debacle is anything to go by. It remains to be seen whether they back TM or whether they go back to their self-destructive default position.

    The latter
