  1. Sad way for it to end. He had the footballing talent and intelligence which could compare to some of the Ewood greats', yet his off the field attitude has always left a lot to be desired. The childish way in which he has behaved over the past week shows that he is not right for this club.

He will do well for West Ham, as he did well for us when we first signed him. But in a years' time i doubt the name of Benni McCarthy will be ringing around Upton Park too often.

Up until the New Year, Benni was always a player who I considered to have the footballing ability to overshadow some of his flaws off the pitch, however, now I think its clear that despite how talented he clearly is, his commitment and desire was always lacking. When he was interested, he was almost unplayable but too often you got the feeling that he'd rather be somewhere else.

The way in which he has conducted himself recently will leave a sour taste in the mouth and forever taint the memories of his time here.

Agreed. Hopefully Sam has plan A B and C lined up which will probably bring Beattie back. He has as much incentive to kick start his career as Benni. Home town boy like Dunn coming home. It's as good as it gets unless Eidur is going to come in on loads of wonga which I doubt.

I really hope Benni the Belly doesn't play against us on Saturday. I am not sure I could stand itif he scores.

  2. The deal is done mentally, ship him out on our terms,do the same with Pedersen and Roberts, like it or not Beattie is waiting in the wings having turned down a few offers. He may not wait too long with Fulham in the hunt. Sam has others to cover or half of Europe's loaners on standby. out with the old in with the new and then let's see how Sams team stands up.

  3. Perhaps Benni needs to go in order to get the critical acclaim from the fans that he richly deserves. A similar situation to his fellow countryman down on the south coast.

    It's true - they need a bus-driver!

  4. Sam does have a way with words. "At his age I'd understand if he wants to play first-team football and at the moment he can't get it here. "

    Hardly Mr Motivator.

Any aspirations we had of being a quality football team is going down the tubes. Sparky had us playing good football in the end but nobody with any aspiration of passing the ball along the ground is going to want to come to us in January.

  5. The only way to play Benni is in Dunn's roll and Dunn slots in the the space left by the removal of Keef...!

Sounds like a very sensible suggestion to me. However in the best interests of your health I would not hold your breath. The concept of Sam saying "Perhaps I ought to reconsider my strategic options in light of 10 away defeats and few goal scoring opportunities" is as unlikely as rocking horse poo.

  6. Rangers midfielder Pedro Mendes is confident that Ferguson would be a success in his second spell down south.

"He is a very good player and I don't think he would have any problems," the former Portsmouth player said

"Quality players can adapt themselves pretty well and Barry is a quality player so I don't think he would have any problems adapting himself to the Premier League."

Obviously not a quality Player based on previous experience, although there may be a greater choice of late night hostelries in Birmingham which should make him feel at home this time around

  7. An excellent player I reckon. We would have seen the best of him given an extended run at centre back imo. Good luck to him.

Agreed. A very solid central defender, solid professional and never moaned when played out of position or put on the bench. Crucial goals as well. Good luck back home and thanks for your commitment to, and passion for the club.

  8. The converse applies in that if he has indeed learned his lesson, clubs NOT giving him the chance could set him back. I'd hope that the lesson learned would be one that would last that kind of set-back and he would prove his detractors wrong. Giving him the chance at a club like Rovers, where the emphasis is on family, would surely help to consolidate the changes he may have made (big question mark over may of course). The truth is that a person who has done what he has done is always going to have that hanging over him (or hanging over him for a very long time at the least) and the press will be waiting for any kind of indication of a return to prior behaviour, like the weekend.

Having said all that, I'm still of two minds whether he should be given the chance. I guess that sounds a bit contradictory but I'd like my club to have a decent image in the press and it annoys me when it doesn't happen but I'm used to it. Having a player like Barton play for Rovers isn't likely to do the club image any good.

Comments he is supposed to have made about Dowie and Shearer. So he is not totally daft then ;-)
