[Archived] What Is Souness Doing With The Midfield?
bob fleming replied to rover6's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Come on Hughesy. I doubt Arsene is going to be at all worried about which team or formation we put out. Why should he be? They've been doing rather well I heard. -
I was just thinking that 6, how the parsimonious days have well and truly kicked in... Not only that but we've turned into a right old bunch of tight gits.
-
Yep - Official Site (and on this sites front page as Alan posted at 9.05. I'll get me coat.)
-
Stu... Seal has teamed up with Adamski and is forming a very good partnership thank you very much with Blythe Spartans in the North East Unibond League Division 7. To date they have bagged 45 goals between them this season in just 5 games. Sealdinho - who I suspect you may have been referring to - Is holed up in a three foot Deano Water Tank in the back of Sports Soccer / Sports World / Roverthemoon down at Ewood. He fell out with Saunders I heard and true to form he wouldn't let it lie.

That's a great shout Dave. Just to back track here I think you'll find that MGP is actually NORWEGIAN. Which suggests to me that he won't need a work permit as NORWAY is part of the EC (European Community). Some legislation was brought in a couple of years ago or something whereby "Any individual who wants to work in another members state should be able to do so freely and without prejudice and considered to be a right good lad." So even though MGP winks at strangers on the tinternet he'll still be granted a work permit, after appeal, when he signs for Spurs / Stanley.

There you go Scotty - I clearly know as much as the next man - i.e. zilch. I just thought I'd summarise the first 4.5 pages of this thread into one concise post. If I gave the impression that I actually know what the hell is going on then I apologise. As for the too much time on my hands - you've probably got a point. SAR - I've no idea.
-
I can't reveal them, sorry. I've probably said too much already.
-
Right - I can exclusively reveal that we might sign Pedersen this week. Or we might not. It depends on a lot of things and a lot of haggling so it might just happen. Or it might not. Hope that's cleared everything up. (Sorry - no link)

[Archived] Verdict On Souness
bob fleming replied to philipl's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Yep. With his arm bands and my ear muffs we look really good. Just like to point out that Capt really is a big gob sh.... sorry, is really vocal and noisy in his support on match days. I'm not joking. He often get's the entire Blackburn End singing, but fortunately they are more in tune. Not a big deal I hear you cry. Well maybe not. Ultimately I just need to point out that Kayos does support the team, probably more vocally than most, when it actually matters. It doesn't matter what he says on here, it doesn't matter if it's "negative" thinking, it doesn't matter if he spouts "doom and gloom", what does matter is that on a match day he sings his heart out in support of our team. We do need to remember that we're actually on the same side in these troubled times (cue dramatic music). Anyway it's not just Kayos who is thinking this way is it? If anyone thinks that it's all rosy in the garden then good for you - I wish I did. To be honest the Capt is merely echoing the thoughts of the majority of Rovers fans I speak to. Besides, if SamDingle thinks Souness is doing a good job you know darned well that all is not well. (Now then Capt if I could just have that £20 back that I leant you in 1997) -
Ah yes!!! It's all lined up for Arsenal to break the record on Wednesday - the biggest certainty in Football since we were denied a penalty last Saturday. The bookies go mad and offer 28-1 on a Rovers away win. They offer 500-1 on our winning a penalty, 7-1 ON that Arsenal are awarded a penalty and 16-1 that the Ref opens the scoring for Arsenal. So it's all set up for a massive upset as the form book prepares itself to be turned upside down. It's so, so a certainty that Arsenal will win that Souness is already talking about "Lady Luck" (the bitch) and the "Rub Of The Green" in his pre-match interview with Sky. Then the unthinkable happens and we win a corner in the first 5 minutes. We take it, lose possession and Arsenal break away and score. Oh well. 4-0 to Arsenal. Reyes. Henry (Pen). Pires. Some other one. (I just can't see it - they're playing a different game to the rest - the best team in the history of the Premier League without doubt IMO.)

Please don't leave it 12 months Darth. Thoroughly enjoyed that post. The referee was poor beyond belief - I could go on but it's already been said. Conspiracy theories? It's getting that way. We should have had a penalty ourselves at 2-1 up - If someone can remember what to do when we get one I do believe we could have been 3-1 up. Game over. Everyones happy - until Wednesday. "Lady Luck" reared her ugly head and once again she sticks her tongue out in our direction. The bitch. (Yeah - I know slagging her off ain't going to help - but she's had it coming. The cow.) Don't Let 'Em Grind Ya Down -

If it's any consolation you'll get your 25p back though Hasta. OK - before I depart for the pub does anyone have any idea what formation and who exactly is playing? (That's not a criticism either). From what Paul has reported over the page I've guessed at this... Brad Short Matteo Eric Emerton Gray Ferguson Flitcroft Tugay Stead Yorke But Neill is also supposed to be in the team? Come on Rovers! 2-1 Stead with the first goal at 6-1. -

He didn't mention any names did he? -
Too right. It'll be yet more evidence that these "release clauses" we insist on don't actually work.
-
Well he's no chance. In fact there are still people who don't attend games at Ewood today because of him, "Not after what that bloody Crawford did in 1929" you can hear them cry.

OK Philly - we should drop Dickov and play young Fitz up front. We should also bring Nissa back to his more customary left wing position and drop Wilcox - who doesn't play for us anyway (I've just remembered). Where's Todd? (no one cares) -
Good grief man!!! That's taking it to the 'n'th degree but I totally agree with you. I've written a few lines on Gennoe - maybe not the best few lines anyones ever written about him but at least I've had a go. We need people who have seen the "older" players to put a good case forward for their inclusion in the "all time BRFCS XI" - then when "nominations" are in everyone can have a vote. I might be completely wrong but I'm sure there are people on here who can write a glowing testamonial on Ronnie Clayton that will convince even the youngest of fans that he should make the team. Correct me if I'm wrong den? And another thing *jabs finger at monitor* this "he never kept goal at the highest level" thing. Hmmmm. I would have thought that this one position where that really doesn't matter. A shot on goal is a shot on goal is a shot on goal - and needs to be saved. Or do we think that players in the "lower divisions" don't hit the ball as hard? Or are the goals smaller or something? Just a thought.

Brilliant! We've had "The Christmas Tree" now, thanks to Philly Rover and The Harwood Yankee (above) we've got "The Question Mark" formation Although I'd be more tempted to try this: - Friedel Emerton Amoruso Matteo Gresko McEveley Gray Wilcox de Pedro Stead Dickov It's a lot of work for Emerton to cover the right hand side but I reckon he's up to it. -
Best keeper? Well I've only seen Gennoe, Mimms, Flowers and Friedel really. Sure you've had a few others in-between but they never really made the No1 jersey their own. We've had some fantastic keepers in just the period of time I've been watching Rovers. When you consider some of the other names den has short listed I think it's fair to say that this is one position where we've been blessed over the years (just to totally disagree with 92er ). It's a really tough call but purely for the very fact that we weren't in the top flight, the fact that he stopped with us and gave us so many of his best years I'll say Terry Gennoe. He was incredibly consistent. Friedel probably gave the best ever season I've seen from a keeper for us but I just don't care. "Gino! Gino! Gino!"

Not only that greegyk but looking at that some people have even given Enkelman 5.6 and Johanson 5.7. Not easy to split the two if you ask me. Did Johanson warm up in a slightly more entertaining manner or something? Thought de Pedro did well to get 7.0 and 6.5 respectively. Strangely no marks for Neill either. -

Nice one Pete. We'll win. Don't know by how many, but we'll win. I'll take a guess - what the heck? 2-1. Philllips to open the scoring for The Saints in the first 5 minutes - several Rovers fans throw themselves off the top tier of the away end at this point shouting "We're doooooommmedddd!!!" All is not lost - we begin the comeback in the 56th minute when our 8 left footed players link up well on the left wing. A sweeping cross from Gresko to Stead who is completely unmarked on the edge of the six yard box. 1-1. de Pedro scores the winner from the penalty spot in the 93rd minute when Dickov is machine gunned down by Niemi - leaving the referee little choice but to consult his linesman before awarding a "dubious" penalty. No pressure de.
