Maybe there is some truth in the thought that we were unsure as to whether we'd land a striker and therefore kept our options open with Sigurdsson in case all else failed.
If thats what we did then we were perfectly within our rights to do so. We're not a charity.
Well - we have been in the case of Sigurdsson and he has the bad grace to moan about it.
But why not try to negotiate with Sigurdsson earlier in the window, inform him that he may not make the squad, offer him half of his money and then use the other half towards the new striker or another player. Then he could have found a different club outside the window wherever instead of having to restrict himself to leagues where the window is open or whatever.
It's obvious there was no sort of plan, Eustace involvement in the players chosen and signed minimal or non existent.Chaos again

Whatever poor bastard they convince to come in next best have the sense to include a break clause in his contract to depart in the summer if certain promises ain't bet
Only reason for him to want to leave here is being misled and promised certain things that haven't materialised.
Plus with only 18 months on his deal and with the job he has done increased and better terms were warranted.Very doubtful the club even spoke about more money with him
I'm staying off Facebook till the dust settles on this some will think this a good thing and it was his negative style as to why we are poor in the final third, others will rant that he is a Judas and wish him the worst , others will be bewildered he is unhappy after the window bringing in experience and a name in Dennis
Hope to god it ain't Russel Martin but he will probably have to high opinion of himself to come here
Need a more pragmatic manager someone similar to Eustace .Even when we get his compensation we know for a fact our new head coach will be unemployed

Clubs in 22nd place don’t come knocking for a manager of a 6th placed side without some serious encouragement to do so. The writing was on the wall all through January (3 people on here I argued with who were adamant Adam Forshaw was a ‘Eustace signing’ 🤣🤣🤣)
Add the Sigurdsson situation on top of it as well 12 players out of contract/returning to clubs in summer, it may well be an ‘anywhere will do’ type scenario for Eustace. He’ll go and keep Derby up, and then another rebuild there and his stock will still be high if a real big team fancy him. I full expect this deal to be done, and from the whispers/sounds I’ve heard today, so do the dressing room.
Heartbreaking
Wolves will murder us tomorrow

Think Eustace will go at some point in the next 18 months as well. We are one bad managerial appointment from being in the real doo doo.
Looking like he could be gone in the next 48 hours never mind 18 months

Nixon saying the compensation for Eustace is 750k
He doesn't think Derby will pay it

I mean they signed Langas for about 4m in the window along with a striker and a few more, it's more than we fucking spent!
Yeah no debate we have worse owners, and that was the Cashin money that got spent, looking at their squad there isn't many more big assets that I can see
Plus I presume whoever is head coach there has minimal say in recruitment like here?Otherwise total madness to not make the change of manager before they spent that money .
My argument isn't that we have better owners or we spend more money ,just My opinion he would have more attractive job opportunities if he waited till summer even when our season comes to nothing.
Big risk going to Derby with the position they find themselves, and he doesn't have a scorer like Sammie there

If he takes Derby down his reputation is seriously tarnished and he's got a tough promotion campaign the next season. It could very well be his sliding doors moment if he fails to bring them straight back up.
Exactly
And they don't have a Szmodic to keep them up.
Can understand why Eustace wants out but despite it being a Midlands club and an ex club of his, I don't see the attraction.
Their owner hasn't been splashing the cash and not even sure if he has the means to go big in the transfer market

Pears, Toth, Brittain, Carter, Hyam, Wharton, Pickering, JRC, Travis, Tronstad, Buckley, Hedges, Kargbo, Cantwell, Ohashi & Gueye will be our senior players next season. Plus Markandey, Vale, Garrett & Leonard will all have to be registered next season.
Out of all those, 7 will be out of contract in the summer of 2026.
Shambles.
It will be back to the academy model, fill our quota of loans and bring 1 or 2 in on free transfer 1 year contracts like Batth and Weimann

I always love how Waggot manages to spin himself out of his messes.
He didn't play the game as we didn't have insurance cover for senior players to play in U21 games due to cost cutting measures and he refused to sign a waiver.
I find that extremely hard to believe.
What about Riberio, Dennis and Woodraw the other night ?Dennis and Woodrow wouldn't be allowed to play by their parent clubs
What was the waiver? If you get injured we don't pay the players wages? No senior player would play if that was the case
There is enough problems at the club to be taking them to task for but I'm calling absolute nonsense on this one

I don't think Jim is responsible for us losing.
I don't think you are responsible for the January transfer window.
Everyone keeps bleating about us not being good enough for the top top six. Yet we are 6th and it's now February.
We have been here before
8 points from 11 games .Shite Transfer window again.Manager being linked with every club going. Small squad being stretched and missing key men.
Can you really blame people for thinking we won't finish in the top 6?
If we don't start picking up wins soon we will be down in 9th or 10th and top 6 will be a distant memory
Look how much ground the likes of Coventry, Norwich, Sheff Wednesday, Bristol City ,Qpr etc have made on us in the last couple of months
Boro ,West Brom and Watford have had spells of poor form and inconsistency during our bad run
West Brom have arguably made the signing of the window in Armstrong imo, the guy is guaranteed goals for them. And yes Boro lost Latth but they have brought in good signings on paper
Its very hard to be confident of top 6 right now

we were linked with Thomas-Asante and Bamford who most of this board didn't want or rated.
I gave my view on which was I think we had a decent window overall. very happy with Dennis signing. Woodrow, the more I think, I can see why we make that signing and gives us more attacking options. With Rovers having Eustace as head coach and our league position has help us signed these 2 players. Sanderson, I think is a decent signing. Kargbo, I don't know enough about his talent and ability to comment but look forward to seeing him soon in a Rovers shirt.. Forshaw is ok squad player and replacement for Baker. Its a short term signing. Ribeiro. I don't know anything about him.
Who says he wants out? are we certain of this?
what was the budget?
Isn't Sanderson experience at this level and someone who Eustace wanted given he was his signing at Birmingham and his captain there? Aren't Dennis and Woodrow experience players?
How much had Bamford who was mentioned to be Eustace's target?
You are speaking with Blue n White glasses on Chaddy
If Boro or another top 6 contender had the window we had I don't believe you would think it was "a decent window overall"
Eustace wanted a goalscorer, Dennis and Woodraw ain't goalscorers. All our signings have had a lack of playing time and came in here late in the window
Its obvious Eustace wants out, he is linked with every championship job going. The window was shite and if he stays he will be left with 13/14 senior players in the summer

Not going to be a great look for the club if we lose our manager to a club sitting in 22nd place, whilst we're 6th. Obviously for those of us following the club closely, we know Eustace likely sees the writing on the wall insofar as being able to keep us going for another season, but you'd like to think such a strange move would raise some eyebrows from those outside of the club.
Of course, it won't, but it should.
They discussed it on sky today
Sherwood and Michael Dawson were baffled as to why Eustace would want to leave a job in the top 6 for a club in the relegation zone
No mention of our shite owners, no mention of the transfer income compared to expenditure, no mention of our shit January window

He was lied to about what budget we had going into the window and throughout aswell imo
When asked about incoming players, he spoke of goalscorers, experience and "names"
Guaranteed he wasn't expecting a bunch of signings who have played minimal last 12 months.Gets 3 of them on the final day and will probably take them a month up to speed
He goes Derby and if they have investment the summer headlines will be "Travis and Brittain follow Eustace to Derby"

I don’t think anyone can honestly think we had a good window.
I would not blame Eustace in the slightest, if he went and no doubt the club would try to dress it up and make it sound like, nothing out of the ordinary.
Yeah can't blame Eustace for wanting out
Although unless Derby have investment coming in, if I was Eustace I would hold off till summer.

He asked for a goalscorer. He didn't get one
We didn't have a good transfer window chaddy.
Dennis and Woodrow have hardly played in a year. When did they last score a goal?
Signed Forshaw....not as good as Baker
Signed Sanderson wasn't playing in League One
Signed Kargbo whose stats suggest he struggles above Seria C
And signed Ribeiro whose team released mid season
It was a shite transfer window and despite what Eustace has said publicly he will be dissapointed with the window

I would be very surprised to see him take up a job at a team fighting relegation. He may as well stay until the summer. His stock will remain high however our season pans out and if he does perform a miracle and get us into the playoffs then his reputation will sky rocket. He will know that better jobs will become available if he bides his time. For his career it would make no logical sense to go to Derby County even if he was seriously unhappy. I suppose this will be good news for us, but in reality we will just delay the inevitable for a few months. Meanwhile we face the prospect of having barely any players in the squad come the summer, very few valuable assets to generate income and a manager who will be itching to leave. Venkys have absolutely destroyed the club.
I agree it would be a strange move for him but......
If it is true that they are making an official approach then they will have had some encouragement from Eustace or his advisors.

We will appoint Paul Warne in readiness for the promotion push from league one in 26/27

Smells to me like Eustace was only allowed a striker if Sigurdsson’s high wages where coming off the books.
But they haven't come off the books?
Even if gets a move now before summer he won't be getting a deal like he got here, so we will most likely have to pay him off to facilitate a move, otherwise he will just continue to pick his wage up here and wait until the summer

Finally put out of his misery, they have dropped off a cliff in recent weeks and face a huge fight to stay in the league.
We'll probably lose to them on 8th March though, it's our specialty to lose away at relegation threatened sides it seems 🥲
Be interesting to see who they bring in.
Warne must have had little say in recruitment like Eustace otherwise daft to wait until the transfer window closes.

Madness that next season, we're going to have to re-consider Kargbo's contract again- even if he does sign it, I doubt it's going to be on the same terms.. Really sloppy, short-sighted business..
Has it been confirmed we don't have a year's option
I know the club didn't mention an option when they announced the signing but they didn't with Hyam either

I'm curious as to how or why anyone thinks we are going to be so much as trying to keep any of our key players on new contracts.
Even signing a handful of loans / short term deals in January has been a huge undertaking, leaving it until 11pm on deadline day, sacrificing key January fixtures, just to get three players here for 15 games until the summer from clubs desperate to be shut of them.
Contract renewals a totally different ball game to that. People like Travis, Tronstad, Brittain are into their late 20s soon, they are going to be getting advised that they should be looking for a minimum of 3 more years and on a good salary, better than they are on at the moment.
Is there any reason on this earth to think Venkys or Waggott are suddenly going to be offering 3 or 4 year contract extensions or wage increases??
Everything we have seen has been short term, make do, no substantial long term commitments, cut costs wherever possible.
I anticipate the only thing on their minds will be saving another £10k a week by getting rid of those players in the summer and replacing them with more dross from the bargain bucket on 12 month loans.
Next season it will be back to playing the kids from the academy model and the excuses for not spending any money will be "we don't want to block the pathway to young Dunn, young Tyjon and young Litherland "

January Transfer window
in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Posted
In fairness even if we only had the 9k a week from his wages it would have got us a better player than Foreshaw or if we are really paying Dennis 20k a week which I doubt 29k per week might have got us a striker ready to go now
I suppose even if we had got the Sigurdsson wages or part of them off the books ,the wages wouldn't have been added to the budget for transfers
Club have just handled it badly, but hard to sympathise when I'm seeing Sigurdsson posting pics of himself on a night out in Manchester when we are playing Preston in an important game.
