I would say you have it all spot on bar Rothwell. It felt like before he came on we had no one in the middle trying to move the ball and unlock things.
Spot on with Davenport, far more effective then Travis today.
If he was playing like in-form Rothwell, I would agree with you. But he was poor today and really didn’t influence the game much at all. I can’t think of any meaningful attack he was involved in, but I remember several misplaced passes.

To be serious for a moment though, the club really didn't have a choice if they wanted to comply with the current P&S rules, but you've got to ask yourself why revenue; matchday, corporate and commercial is down so much? Personally i think there is a disconnect between the fanbase (on many levels) and the club. Until the disconnect is seriously addressed, the decline in revenue lines (as SW likes to call them) will continue.
I'd love to know the conversations that happen behind closed doors as to why the revenue continues to decline - or maybe everybody just looks the other way and takes their monthly wage without rocking the boat. Who knows.
Has our Matchday and Commercial income really changed significantly over our time in the Championship? It’s always been sitting at around the £3mil mark for Matchday and £5mil for Commercial.
The longer we stay in the Championship, the more people lose interest.

Have to say I’m really disappointed with Nyambe today. That goal is 100% his fault.
His yellow and his poor performance meant he needed to be subbed, but with no RBs in the squad we had to move Buckley there. Mowbray was then forced to bring Clarkson on in his place, and while he didn’t do that much wrong I think he didn’t add enough attacking threat for us and we lost control of midfield a bit towards the end.
Travis was also out of sorts and it should have been him hooked instead of Davenport who was excellent. I’m not sure if Rothwell was the right sub to make… he was poor IMO and I think someone like Johnson would have added more bite to our midfield as they were pushing us around too much.
The game was there for the taking, so it was disappointing not to come away with all 3 points.
Mowbray’s best decision in the game was to bring Ayala on as it absolutely killed off Bristol City’s attacking threat. The other subs were poor.

1-1 is okay but a disappointing result. Mowbray's subs bizarre today.
Travis should have been taken off instead of Davenport as he was really poor today, and Dolan should have been brought on for Khadra at some point as Khadra faded as the game wore on.
Rothwell and Nyambe clearly affected by the contract talks as they were both really poor today. If contracts can't be resolved by January then I would say move them on and bring in replacements.

Brilliant save by Kaminski! What a gem of a keeper we've found. Absolutely have to keep him at the club at all costs.

Bizarre defending but we'll take it lol

Can't believe he's taken Davenport off there. Probably been our best midfielder if not player.

Absolutely sickening watching Poveda get stretchered off tbh... feels like our players have the worst luck with injuries.
-
Standard rusty Rovers after an international break.
Bristol mostly threatening from set pieces, but they're getting enough opportunities that it's a worry.
Edun and Davenport have been our best players so far. Poveda and Khadra look lively but it's not come off for them just yet.
Nyambe having a poor game.

You told this board a few days ago that the club was right the throw Nelson and Salgado on the scrap heap:
"We had to get wages under control" You said.
Here we are 10yrs later with wages nowhere near under control, even by your own unicorn calculations (Ayala 30k a week is laughable)
This isn't a Mowbray and Waggott issue, its a Venkys issue, they're completely inept and couldn't care less Rev.
This notion that they're keeping the club alive, keeping us afloat is also bollox too, they're lumping debt (£140m+) into a holding company, we all know with the stroke of a pen that debt can move to the club, are you conformable with that?
Posters on this board won't fall for the propaganda, we are all well versed in the business activities of these inept owners.
Venkys out.
https://salarysport.com/football/sky-bet-championship/blackburn-rovers/
If these salaries are accurate then it would seem wages are under control, as for 19/20 we were spending £23mil+/year. This total wage bill is well within our revenue.
It would also explain why Rothwell, Nyambe and Brereton may be looking elsewhere as they definitely deserve a much higher wage than they're currently getting.

They are, you’re right. Tens of tens of millions, probably a hundred million+.
I still don’t understand why. Why would anyone do that, yet do nothing apart from barely keep it afloat?
Maybe they are madly in love with Blackburn Rovers Football Club and get a lot out of owning it. But then you wonder why they stand and watch everything about it going down the pan.
Its got me beat.
They’re not just barely keeping it afloat though are they? They’re literally spending up to the limit that FFP allows.

The fact they had to sell the training ground to avoid falling foul of FFP shows that the owners have invested absolutely nothing into the club. The money they supposedly put in is only to cover losses and is the bear minimum that they can get away with. Even this money is in the form of debt so they aren't really giving anything to the club.
Do you understand how FFP actually works?

We ain't finishing top 6 or even top 10 if Mowbray stays imo. If he is allowed to see out his contract (and I have no idea whatsoever why he would be allowed to do so other than save a few pennies) then I would keep any spending in January to a minimum and allow more funding for a new man next season.
It's still more important and economical in the long run to secure the futures of the soon to be out of contract players imo.
I mean, we’re in 7th and the players are still playing for him. I could understand if we were mid table and players wanted him out but that’s not the case is it?
Whatever people think about his quality as a manger, Mowbray hasn’t significantly underachieved in his time here so ending his contract now makes no sense. This is his last chance to get us into the playoffs. If he fails then someone new should come in next season. If he succeeds there’s more of a decision to make.
I have no concerns if he is given money to spend even if a new manager comes in next season. Mowbray has signed more good players than bad.

I don’t think anyone thinks we’ll definitely go into administration if Venkys leave but based on the 19/20 season numbers our revenue was lower than Barnsley’s. Our wage to turnover ratio was 189% … I can’t imagine it’s improved since then.
If they do leave what will happen? We will need to drastically cut our budgets on pretty much everything. We’re utterly reliant on Venky’s money in order to spend money on players like Brero and Arma and wages for players like Ayala. We’re reliant on them to upkeep the academy and probably a myriad of other things we don’t regularly see.
Are they responsible for getting us into a situation where our revenue streams are so low in the first place? 100%. But it doesn’t change the reality of the situation.
A lot of fans see that and appreciate that we are still able to invest money in players, bring in good young players on loan and have a quality academy to promote players from. We have it better than a lot of clubs out there.
The truth is that we’ve gone from the greatest, most passionate football owner in Jack Walker to a group of inexperienced, incompetent but (maybe) well intentioned owners in the Venkys. No owner will ever be enough and will never match Jack Walker or his legacy.
But personally I have enjoyed the Mowbray era for the most part and I have been enjoying this season and am choosing to stay positive about our chances even though I know we’ve been there many times before already.

Just give him until the end of the season.
Too many posters are basing their opinions on what has happened in the past and disregarding the fact that we are having a really good season so far with a lot of players finally fulfilling their potential and TM himself much improved with his selections and tactical decisions.
In TM’s 5 season with us so far he has neither overachieved or underachieved.
1st season - the form under him was excellent and we were very unfortunate to go down in the end.
2nd season - promoted on first time of asking
3rd season - comfortably avoided relegation zone and started the rebuild of the squad in the Championship
4th season - top half finish
5th season - this was the only major disappointment for me. We had a squad that was capable of promotion but we let it slip. Although I think a ridiculous number of injuries were the main contributor to our loss of form, TM didn’t make things better with a lot of baffling decisions
6th season - currently challenging for a playoff spot with a squad that’s got the 3rd most goals in the league playing some really great football at times
He’s basically made steady progress with us every season other than last season. You shouldn’t sack someone when they’re hitting their targets. If he still fails to achieve anything this season, bring someone new in and start fresh.

I think whether he stays or go will be conditional on his performance in the next 3 matches.
There’s about 7-9 clubs vying for the last 2 playoff spots atm. We could easily find ourselves in one of those spots by the time the international break comes around. We’re facing bottom of the league Derby and an underperform Sheff Utd at home.
It would be outrageous to sack him when we have the 4th best GD in the league and 1 point away from top 6.

4 loan players brought in yet none of them deemed good enough for more than a sub spot. Surely that market is all about getting first team ready players to play from day 1?
The man is a joke.
1 of them is in the starting lineup?

Bereft of creativity this side, completely unbalanced. Other than Rothwell who's capable of creating any chances?
-
FFS, finally a decent attacking move... comes to Clarkson and he fluffs it.

Clarkson is not good enough. It's like playing with 10 men.

That was the most shambolic defending of a free kick I've ever seen. Don't think anyone knew where their man was.

This board was whinging and moaning about the money “wasted” on Brero and Gally not too long ago. Now it’s all about Venky’s turning the taps off.
Its like goldilocks and the three bears on here.

Tony Mowbray Discussion
in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Posted
Everyone on here contradicts themselves. Most people are just looking for someone to blame for where we are now, so its either anti-Venkys or anti-Mowbray.
The reality is that Venkys stuffed around with Kean at the start of their reign and then put their faith in Bowyer for too long. With the parachute money pissed away, we are just an average Championship club now. The investment in the squad from Venkys since then has been good and Mowbray has done an adequate job with limited resources.
We are going to be stuck in this division for a while longer unless we have a miracle season to get promoted or slowly build up a young, exciting squad like Brentford.
