Summer transfer window 2021.
RevidgeBlue replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
But what are OUR youngsters more likely to benefit from going forward? Regular game time in the Championship or regular game time in Leagues 1 or 2? You can't compare it to the Premier League. Their youngsters are behind some of the best players in the world, ours aren't competing against anywhere near that level of player. -

That's absolute buttons if Payment is structured in the usual way I.e. over the life of the contract. If we can't afford that things must be desperate. Shows what folly it was to splurge £5m on Gallagher who presumably is no better than this bloke at best. For the same price you could have bought 3 or 4 of him plus the wages would be much less. -

In addition to the 5k per week, we'll also be paying a substantial loan fee won't we? Premier League Clubs don't tend to let these players out for nothing. -

Entirely my point really, you're not improving the team at all because no matter how good they are, they're not here the following season so you never get any long term progression. -

Garnett wasn't even in the 18 Saturday. Poveda and Clarkson are more likely to block the progress of the likes of Davenport, Chapman, Buckley Butterworth and Dolan who all need regular game time at this level. -

It really isn't if it stops our own youngsters getting in the side UNLESS said PL youngsters are the difference between going up or staying up and not. Otherwise it's completely pointless plus it's a criminal waste of money. How much more obvious can it be? -

Absolute disgrace if that happens. What more can he do than come on and impress? -

They'd have had more money to try and do so if they hadn't spent money on Clarkson and this Leeds lad and put faith in the likes of Buckley, Butterworth, Chapman and Dolan. Plus, the priority is still a decent permanent striker to replace Armstrong! -

Not shooting the messenger, but basically someone Leeds can't wait to see the back of? -

Whilst I broadly agree with you about the embargo being 100% the fault of the Coventrio and that in general when Mowbray has had to ask for funds they always seem to have been forthcoming, not sure I agree with that bit. What's the point in spending big in January if it's going to put you in a bigger FFP hole just 6 months or so later? I can see the logic if the day of reckoning was not for 2 or 3 seasons but any acquisitions would be unlikely to massively appreciate in that short time frame and you'd be reliant on being able to sell them again for no less than you bought them. The only way it'd be worthwhile is if you could more or less guarantee a signing would make the difference between being promoted and missing out. We were never in that position in January or even remotely close to it. -

Most of the above although slight of frame were all physically still very strong on the ball though. Tugay was slightly different as he had the knack like you say of creating a yard or two of space for himself. -

Yep, the converse to the 5'8" player you mentioned is Gallagher who although he is 6' 5" might as well be 5' 8" as he jumps like he has lead diving boots on. -

Cheers. We would probably still disagree at the end of the day as to how useful the data actually is but that puts most of your posts in this area into the proper perspective. -

No, I meant why would Joe spend hours doing such a thing? He isn't employed by the Club (or anyone else) to do so unless I've misunderstood. -

Not really And then after hours of studying the "data" you make some enquiries with his agent and discover his wage demands are out of our League which makes the whole exercise entirely pointless. Although in Rovers' case we seem to plug doggedly on anyway, putting an "offer" on the table which is never likely to be accepted then act all hard done to when nothing happens all summer then the player eventually moves elsewhere. -

Put an Academy lad in then. Doesn't seem to be a problem replacing Nyambe (who is miles better than Pickering) with an Academy graduate. -
Poor use of subs today, after a quiet first half Clarkson had just started to do a few good things including setting up the equaliser but then got hooked for Davenport. Also at 1-2 down we needed more attacking intent and ingenuity but to the extent he brought on attacking players he neutralised that by bringing off Rothwell and Buckley when Gallagher was clearly one who should have been replaced. His subs always tend to be like for like and he rarely changes things round completely in an attempt to go for it and salvage a result

For someone I'm guessing wasn't even at the game! 🙂

Why the hell do we need a left back? Typical Mowbray, signing back up players when we need to improve the starting X1. -
So would I if I was his age, but it wouldn't make any difference as I could never play and neither can Gallagher. He looks a shadow of even the player he was first time he was here when he looked lean and wiry and seemed to have an ability to run the channels.
-
No. Very disappointed with today, not so much the result but the performance. Mowbray abandoned everything that was good about our play in the games we won in favour of hoofing long diagonals in the direction of the useless Gallagher who then promptly proceeded to lose it, the last occasion in the first half leading to their second. We were also screaming out for width on the left hand side of the pitch in the first half when Pickering had the ball, all 22 players were condensed in the right hand third of the pitch. It was quite ludicrous. Better second half, surprise surprise all our best moments came from wide areas and keeping the ball on the ground. Time for Mowbray to admit defeat on Gallagher, he is truly abysmal and doesn't have a single redeeming quality. Carter looked way more threatening than him whenever he got into forward areas which shows how bad Gallagher is.
