the man remains a mystery to me.
Good post.
not a mystery to me. He’s a crap manager well out of his depth in the modern game. Sussed him about 4 years ago.

Ryder cup or Ewood this afternoon?
Never thought I’d even remotely consider that. Hard to buy into Rovers these days.

Great article in the The Athletic today looking back on Tugay: https://theathletic.com/2811523/2021/09/08/tugay-at-blackburn-it-was-like-he-was-playing-with-a-cigar-in-his-mouth-it-was-that-easy-for-him/
(As always, apologies if you can't get around the paywall!)
The best piece I’ve seen written on him - thanks.
It’s worth downloading the “theathletic” app and signing up for free for a week just to read it. Lots of new stuff I’d not heard before.
This bit struck a chord with me personally…
The way people talk about Tugay reminds you of how people talked about players such as Garrincha, describing a lesser-seen, mercurial talent they almost feel duty-bound to try to make everyone understand how good they were. Nobody who ever coached “Toogs”, or played with him, or even watched him, has anything even remotely negative to say, about either his talent or his character. They’re Tugay proselytisers, keen to convert the remaining disbelievers to the cause.

Obafemi has a terrible record with hamstring injuries, missing large parts of the 18/19 and 19/20 seasons then having surgery earlier this year for a "leg muscle" injury. Any other club would steer well clear but Mowbray.......
Our physios will make sure he is fit to sign. We do have some physios don’t we? 🥺

I noticed that McBride, Pike, Vale, Garrett and Cirino all didnt get squad numbers. Seemingly not considered as first teamers at the moment.
They will be once the inevitable injury crisis kicks in.

I hope Carter has improved since I saw him play last season. Admittedly only once. He was terrible.

I’ve just had an advert on here for an ad blocker. Seriously.
My brain has just collapsed into a singularity just thinking about that one.- 3

If we do sign Reach, he should be played as a left winger, thats where he is best.
Up front it is then.

He’s had enough chances in various positions
Which could well be why he hasn't succeeded here due to terrible management by his manager.
I'm wondering who we can afford that are better.

I have already posted that I can't wait to watch my club play live again inside a stadium.
This has potential as a drinking game.

It wasn't at all blatantly obvious. There was a run in February and March that was very poor, no question, but that run was sandwiched by two four game wining streaks. Coupled with a strong first half of the season, what reason did we have at that point to think it was the bad run which was a sign of things to come, and not the other parts of the season which went well?
Clearly in retrospect we would have been better off replacing him with someone better before now, but there's no point pretending that this was obvious in 2019 when it simply wasn't.
It really was obvious to some of us.
I went to the PNE away game that season and what I saw that day convinced me Mowbray wasn’t up to it.
From team selection, to what went on on the pitch to his comments afterwards. A Shameful display of football management. Nothing has happened since that has convinced me otherwise.

Thanks. Yes there is , although of course those accounts show the position of just over a year ago. The government did provide for deferrals for businesses in paying taxes like VAT as a result of COVID so presumably the considerable increase in the number reflects that. I would like to think that Venkys would make sure that the club does meet its tax liabilities rather than make it conditional on transfer sale receipts.
I think tomphil is saying that in the event of an Armstrong sale, it’s likely that the proceeds would be used to pay off the highest priority Creditors (as Venkys should do) and not used as re-investment in the team.
ie Armstrong proceeds will get swallowed up.

What tax gets sorted by the sale of Armstrong ?
What question or point are you really trying to make?

That's his way. Do you see a different demeanor at any other time?
They are out of their depth to bring success to the club, but from their own point of view, they couldn't be anywhere better
To be honest, I think everyone’s broadly in agreement.
we’re fucked.

Agreed. It's annoying, but he's just a man out of his depth, doing his best, which isn't good enough.
I don't think he is doing his best judging by his demeanor on the touchline during games.
But that is just my interpretation/opinion.
I also don't think he is the brightest either, which puts him way out of his depth. Ditto the CEO.

Get them printed…if he bangs in 15/20 goals this season you could be on to a winner!

If there is a significant budget then I would want Mowbray moved on and "someone else" brought in
I wanted that 2 or 3 years ago when it was clear he was a very limited manager and his time was up.
£40 million quid later...

Yes, we might as well be discussing whether Roy Race would be decent for us, (I suggest googling for those fortunate enough to not have a clue who he is).
He had a hell of a shot on him. He could hit a ball harder than Shearer I reckon.

Nothing will work here until they have a proper locally based board of directors. Containing people with the clubs best interests at heart not their own, their mates or any 3rd party influences or hurting the owners feelings if they feel something isn't right.
It's is as plain and simple as that really.
We've had agents, managers, bit part ten bob shelf sellers and nobodies. Non of it has worked, not one bit apart from Mowbrays brief grasping of it in league 1.
Until they finally come to terms with that their money will continue to be wasted.
Makes you really want to buy a season ticket don’t it. 😕

Is Rothwell consistent though. Even when fit. I don't think so
Wing, centre mid, centre mid, wing, No 10, wing, centre mid (scores a goal), dropped, dropped.
I haven't a clue how good he is.

The second part is certainly right.......
As for the first, he's been here three seasons and has never had the nine or ten unbroken games he imo needs up front to assess whether or not can can become the answer there and become reasonably prolific.
He'll never get it while Mowbray's here.
There’s a number of players we have That I’m unable to form a proper opinion on because of the appalling mismanagement of our so called manager. These include, but not limited to;
Kaminski
Nyambe
Lenihan
Rothwell
Travis
Brereton
Gallagher
I suspect there are some duds in there, but it’s hard to form an opinion when they seem to be set up to fail most of the time. It’s criminal what Mowbray is getting away with.

Is there something in bookies T & C’s that says they can void a bet if they messed up the original odds? Even if there is, I doubt they would ever do it, the PR would be terrible for them.
