Well you say "things that have gone in their favour" as if they were totally unexpected. 4 was basically a dead cert. When you have that much demand even a basic grasp of economics would tell you that you can afford to increase the price. 1 and 2 were certainly possible. You can never bank on winning the premiership or the champions league, but United had a good of chance as any team and were the only realistic challengers to Chelsea last season and came into this season as favourites. 3, well we all knew that was coming really. Exact figures may not have been known, but they will have known all along that the deal was going to have to be renegotiated and that, given the popularity of the premiership, it was going to go up.

Noooooo don't say that. They are evil and retarded and United will be gone soon because they are on the brink of the biggest financial implosion the business world has ever seen! Oh, but apart from that they just won the Champions League and the Premiership and are laughing all the way to the bank on those winnings. Not to metnion having probably the most highly valued player in the world in their squad. Big trouble in little trafford by the looks of things.

I have one, think it's a medium, I'll check when I get home.

[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?
Eddie replied to Ste B's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
I don't know who I'd replace him with. I don't know who is free and who would be interested. It's very difficult to know with managers. If it were my job I'd have a list of names, as it is, and as none of our opinions matter, I have simply expressed my opinion on the season. -
Ah we will have the joy of Brian Lara... "It's a 4, a 6, caught, dropped....he's bowled him!" Gower is always on top of things.
-
I think Bellamy has to be blamed for Bellamy's demise.
-
I actually think it is far better for Rovers to have one dominant force in the league. We'll never win the title, so have the other three weaken so that we might at least make the champions league.
-
I like having you around, with you talking no one can possibly say that I repeat myself.

You can progress and still be resigning players. There was a time when we would have loved to have had Shearer back, or Duff back before injuries ruined him. He isn't the same player, that is why we shouldn't sign him. He isn't very good.
-
First of all, I don't think we make it through a 20% reduction as easily as you put it. Second of all, there would never be a scenario where there is 20% all round, unless it's imply TV revenue. If United saw their income fall by 20% we would see ours fall by a ton more than that. The day United start to see a serious decline in their revenue is the day we should all be very worried.
-
We'd be a lot more screwed.
-
He'd be a fairly typical Harry signing.
-
Looks like he'll have to take his date elsewhere... (Prepared for board to jump up in defense of ozzie).
-
Had he never played for us no one on here would be interested.

[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?

Yes, I do. I think Hughes is doing a great job in the transfer market, but the rest I'm not too impressed with. I don't like him nearly as much as most on here do, but I certainly wouldn't get rid of him at this moment in time. I would think about it if he failed to address some things in the summer and if we got off to a bad start whilst playing the horrible football we've seen for most of this season. -
To which he will respond that had they had first team experience earlier on it may well have had a crucial impact on their development. Just thought I would save us some time.
-
I've put some money on him to score.
-
I think Rover 6's point, not that I totally agree with it, is that several players who have broken through in the end were not the ones most highely touted in the youth or reserve sides. We have to try and get youngsters a run-out, but really the only way to do is is through the cups.

I work in a bar and people try and cut in front about 200 times a night, I've yet to see anyone famous in though. It's just how people behave, although it isn't right. I doubt the barmaid even knew who he was.

Don't think so. Big teams spend a lot. Fact The reason why Chelsea were labelled as having bought the title is because they essentially bought a new team within two to three years, that is fairly unusually, even in the merry-go-round that is modern day football, but now that Chelsea have had their side together for a couple of seasons it isn't quite the same. We did the same thing. Now, that doesn't take away from the achievement. Putting together a title winning side is difficult regardless of whether that group of players comes through your youth system (United in the late 90's), are put together over a more "normal" period of time (Arsenal before or even United now) or are put together quickly (Ourselves and Chelsea). Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle and Spurs, to name but a few, are all proof that money alone won't bring league success. Teams will always have to accept that if they put together a new squad quickly and for a lot of money that it doesn't look as "good" as if you build that side gradually. That may be unfair, but it's true. Part of why many of us are enjoying the team we are building now is because we are doing it by adding a piece or two every now and then, not by simply splashing the cash and seeing what happens (like City have). We can't be bitter about this forever.

If he works hard on his positioning that could work out for us. I also like the idea of Emerton in central midfield, he certainly has the engine and his pace is useful.
-
Let's remember folks that we were once what they are now. Maybe slightly more loveable as our Abramovich was a local and long-time supporter, but the results for other teams were the same. Unlike United we simply weren't good enough to keep it going.
-
...I think they'll be alright

A couple of seasons ago I would have said the club's, but now that he has rebuilt that team and put together a side that could win everything for several seasons to come I think it is his. It could turn nasty, but it's fairly unlikely. Let's put it this way, I view our situation in a fairly negative light, but if we all judged Rovers by the same standards that you are judging United's financial and managerial situation then we would all be topping ourselves.
-
Turn nasty? Ferguson has a job for life and will no doubt be offered a position on the board if/when he decides to leave.
