  1. Maybe, but I certainly disagree about the latter. Sometimes you can't avoid going to ground and it can at times look like a dive even when it is not meant to be. If you want Karma to come into it then I think we have a bit saved up with bad decisions going against us, so I'm looking forward to England winning.
  2. Did he try and fool the officials? I didn't see any attempt at an appeal, he simply went to ground.
  3. Surprise, surprise, look who responded. Seems I can always rely on you lot to appear after I've posted. The first video shows one Gerrard dive, the one against AC Milan wasn't a dive really. He was being held back and it was a foul, in football today he has to go to ground to show the officials that he is being held back, it was a foul. Say what you like, Gerrard isn't a diver. Like all players it will happen and there are several reasons why that might be, expected contact, lost your footing, not all of them are that he is actually looking for a foul but it could appear that way. Maybe he does dive from time to time, only he really knows, but last night it was a penalty and I have no doubt about that.
  4. Sometimes you can be fouled without contact. A player going in like the defender did is a foul, even if he doesn't get his man, which thankfully he didn't. I wasn't happy to see Gerrard go to ground, but I can't say for sure if he actually was diving, he made no appeal to the officials, he simlpy went to ground.
  5. I think a player who really impressed last night was Beckham. He's been playing very well for Real Madrid this season and last night showed why there should be no doubt over why he is in the team. He set up the two goals and also provided 3 or 4 other chances that should have been turned into goals. He may not be as exciting as a player with more pace and tricks, but he produces the goods.
  6. It was a penalty. Gerrard went down without contact but if that was because he was actually trying to dive or not I don't think you can really say. It isn't in his nature to dive though, can't remember seeing him do it before, but it was a penalty.
  7. The way I see it is because most foreign hooligans still live with the idea of very violent English supporters and look forward to the challenge. Can't remember the last time an English supporter killed anyone.
  8. Wow, a new topic for you. I love Ian Wright, find him funny, knows his stuff and offers a different style. His obvious bias can be annoying at times, but it is also part of his charm and he is always able to talk highly of opposition and is never blinded by who he likes or does not like. Wright deserves his MBE as much as any sportsman does and I'm glad he has his BBC job, I even enjoy the other shows he has done on the BBC. As for English players diving, of course they do, everyone does. However, it is still not as common amongst English players or players in English leagues as it is in Europe or South America.
  9. Sorry, but no. England certainly had the worse of the officials tonight. How England managed to have two players booked and Hungary had none, despite bad tackles, handballs and the lot I'll never know. Let's not attack our own team here.
  10. I like the second one more.
  11. halo 2, pro evo 5, splinter cell, tiger woods, madden would be my favourites.
  12. English football does not have anywhere near to the worst hooligan problem in domestic football in Europe.
  13. For me Adriano is overrated. A good player yes, but not amongst the best strikers in the world, at least not yet. The others are of course all very good, but three players don't make them the best side ever.
  14. I think Frey has simply been unlucky. He's quite highly rated here but always just misses out. I would have included Mexes but I can understand why he hasn't been taken. N'Zogbia will break through soon enough, he's represented France at youth levels and in a year or so I have no doubt he'll get a call up. There are a lot of good young French midfiedlers around, the problem is that they need some of them to push on and become world class and I'm not sure who it will be from the group that will do it.
  15. I'll probably be slaughtered but I really feel that Brazil are overrated. Talented group going forward but they don't look that strong at the back, while lets face it, some of their attacking players live upon a reputation purely based on the fact that they are Brazilian.
  16. Not all of the players were in the squad.
  17. Think the math on the last bit is a little off, I really wish it was 2.7 points a game though.
  18. Yes, but I think the big difference is that at the last tournament you had to get through a group that simply contained one of the smaller of the "big" nations. This time you are facing two of the best sides in the world, both of whom could be classed as underdogs and dark horses in their own way. I've becomed tired of this debate with American friends who time and time again say "look at 2002", get through, maybe, win the group and you need a few Italians and Czechs to pick up the Spurs virus.
  19. I think it unlikely that America don't take a point, but it is a reasonable prediction given their group. Personally can't see them taking more than three.
  20. Jan, I don't think anyone is really going to disagree with you; but you have to admit that he was a great manager for us in his first 3 seasons here and I for one am very glad that we had him.
  21. I think you forget just how poor a side we were. Promotion was a very long way off and up until the upturn in form when Parkes first took charge we were looking like a side that could have gone down.
  22. He basically only makes the squad because he is so versatile.
