LeChuck Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Has Hughes lost the plot...why is he desperately trying for another striker when other parts of their squad look so weak (right midfield for example). They have so many strikers already, and they're not bad either...Jo, Benjani, Bojinov, Castillo, Bianchi, Caicedo, Vassell...plus highly promising youngsters like Ched Evans and Daniel Sturridge. All of those first six were £5 million plus, that's a hell of a lot of money wasted if Hughes still thinks they need another forward. If Jo is as good as they're making out then there's no need for Santa Cruz.

Ewood and I Would Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Couldn't find the Mirror Corluka article referred to BTW, if anyone has a link I'd be interested to read it. Put Corluka in Google and click the "NEWS" option at the top (between MAPS and SHOPPING) http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-20696944/
Rob of the Rovers Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 City clearly knew we would turn down their ridiculous bid. Nicko is spot on, this is just spin to try to cover up their financial melt-down. Part of me thinks it would be hillarious if we had called their bluff and accepted the bid. John Williams: "Show us the money then." Garry Cook: "Erm.....we'll get back to you!"
nicko Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Nicko, the club have confirmed that City have bid for RSc and that it was turned down. You missed that one didn't you I could make a bid for Roque...it's not going to happen either. I don't fall for publicity stunts. You can if you want to. How many times has 'City and Roque' been mentioned this summer? Have I ever taken it seriously? Ask WHO leaked it to Sky and The Sun? Start working things out more.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 My response would have been "Thanks for the enquiry, we spoke to RSC and he informed us that he was apprehensive about joining a team that might force him to play in Championship stadia in the event of Bon Jovi coming to town"

All of those first six were £5 million plus, that's a hell of a lot of money wasted if Hughes still thinks they need another forward. If Jo is as good as they're making out then there's no need for Santa Cruz. Maybe they are just letting Hughes think that he has a bit of control over whats going on! "Yeah, go on, let him have a bid on RSC. He won't get him, but its worth giving him a little job and while hes busy doing that, we'll get a couple more sold. He won't notice" Typical "Go and ask Blackburn for a 'long stand'" apprentice joke. Ha ha!
Ewood and I Would Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I could make a bid for Roque...it's not going to happen either. Why not, you'd find it easier to raise the £12m Typical "Go and ask Blackburn for a 'long stand'" apprentice joke. Ha ha! It's a "long weight" in my area...
The Prof. Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 My response would have been "Thanks for the enquiry, we spoke to RSC and he informed us that he was apprehensive about joining a team that might force him to play in Championship stadia in the event of Bon Jovi coming to town" Careful. He might might fancy playing with Bon Jovi! If I was JW I'd go down to the Council Tenancy with a suitcase full of 20's and say here's £10m for Micah Richards. One of Hughes' board would grab it and sign the paperwork ala Corluka.
modes98 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 You missed that one didn't you Where was your scoop Clarke! Nicko is spot on, this is just spin to try to cover up their financial melt-down. My thoughts exactly!
gazsimm Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I just hope Santa does not get a sulk on now we have rejected a bid, just like what Bentley did. It's still worrying that every day passes and the talk is about players leaving the club instead of new players coming into the club. If we do have the reported 20 million or so to spend on players, why don't we start making bids on players.
BlueMG Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Why not, you'd find it easier to raise the £12m It's a "long weight" in my area... Either way. I think it works. Especially in a stand factory.
gbax Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Roque speaks Spanish or Guarani, probably the former... And German and English when I met him at the Players Awards last season.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Apparently Northern Rock have been taking business advice from City's money men. Last night they put a bid in to buy out Microsoft....
Mr Creosote Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I just hope Santa does not get a sulk on now we have rejected a bid, just like what Bentley did. Certainly not daft enough to sulk in order to get a move to a club that is very publically self destructing.
hawkiiz Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Interesting thinkg on Annan. Start says that they only last night received a bid for Annan. There was NO bid during the weekend. They were only told that a bid WOULD COME - and now has. It was from Racing Santander. They play uefa-cup, so they might want to step up the bid if they have to. I dont know if its accepted.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 He played Roberts up front on his own when RSC was injured. When he was fit he was the first name on the sheet! When we were in the run of games around the United draw, he played Roberts as the lone striker with Santa Cruz behind on the right.
Leyther Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 This is so transparent from City.Yesterday they put Hughes in front of the cameras to explain that everything is great, honest, oh and we will be adding players too. Day after, a completely derisory offer, one which Hughes and city know will be turned down by Rovers, is made. The city faithfull will fall for this hook, line, and sinker and be only too happy to put their heads back in the sand, believe me I work with the deluded fools. It shows the desperate times that Hughes is in, if he is prepared to use Rovers like this.

That might have had a mention here yesterday... Here's a thought on Roque. Accept Man City's bid...and see if they have the money.
rovers1993 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 nicko who leaked the roque story to skysports?
BlueMG Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 That might have had a mention here yesterday... Here's a thought on Roque. Accept Man City's bid...and see if they have the money. They will, but it will 50p now and the rest to follow (hopefully in pounds not baht)
nicko Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 nicko who leaked the roque story to skysports? Probably the same person who leaked a lot of the Mascherano stuff a few months ago and always gets credibility with shots of him on his mobile and references to him being a wheeler-dealer and big player. I don't even want to mention his name.
Wiggy Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 That might have had a mention here yesterday... Here's a thought on Roque. Accept Man City's bid...and see if they have the money. Remember when Jack got fed up of United being linked with Alan Shearer and so made a bid for Eric Cantona? Surely it's time to do the same with City. A bid for Richards, Petrov or A N Other would lift the mood around Rovers and have every chance of being accepted if Frank Sinatra got wind of it!

Chances are that Shinawatrararararara might accept it too! Definitely worth a bid for Johnson It's about time Rovers played hardball and I love the quote "A number of Manchester City officials have been advised...."
Hughesy Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Nice to see that statement from the club - They should of come out and said it isnt even half of our valuation - that would of been better ha! Id like to see us attack and unsettle other clubs. Maybe we could make a bid for Arteta/ Lescott from Everton as they are skint. Maybe also a bid for Martins at Newcastle, followed by a double bid for Petrov and Elano. Come on Rovers unsettle them, play them at thier own game - only difference being - We actually have the cash!!! ha ha
gbax Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 When we were in the run of games around the United draw, he played Roberts as the lone striker with Santa Cruz behind on the right. Yes, sorry, I corrected on the other forum page.
