Roversider Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Nicko, Why is the club so hesitant to buy players with all the loan deals and trials of players I never heard of going on at the moment? I mean we lost Bentley, surely Ince or the board must look at someone filling his boots. I know we don't have money to throw around like some other clubs but I just hope we go for someone who can light up the town. What do you make of it? Don't want to jump in ahead of Nicko but ... Villenueva, a loan reduces the risk of him turning out to be only a YouTube hero and there is already an agreed fee. Simpson, we take what is available from Utd and they may not want to offer him up now, as for the end of the season if the Reds have added to the right-back players they may then see him as surplus, course if he plays well for us the fee goes up. Either way we get a season to look at him. As for the others thank heavens Ince is following the previous regime in making certain he sees players in the flesh and close up before signing them. No need to panic, seems good business sense to me. Also keeps a nice tidy war chest available for any opportunities. Does that include Pennant Nicko?

I agree it is a prudent approach - especially considering the type of player Ince must have been looking at only a few weeks ago. Though these things can take time - I do worry that we are only two weeks away from the start of the season and the team actually looks weaker on paper than it did last season. Only King Carlos has made me think things may change - and I think it is a risk placing too much pressure on him for the first half of the season.
Ste B Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 to be fair that article hinted that bentley left because of ince - not the case as we all know. scary thing though is that nelsen and warnock among others said when ince arrived that they wanted to committ - like the articel says, but after that it has been silent. nicko! Alternatively, discuss Ince on the Ince thread.
nicko Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I'm very disappointed that this has become public knowledge. Players talk all of the time...and there have been leaks on this for about two weeks. I don't want to sound like a saint - or that I have gone soft - but THAT was why I went dark last Thursday. The Sunday People were going to run this story but I had to nip it in the bud because I feel it is too early and unfair to be throwing allegations like this about. One or two players need to shut it, basically. There ARE teething problems, but that happens. However there is no need for the level of chat that has been going round. I will no doubt get a bit of a grilling from the People for not writing this particular story, but I feel that it is a bit unfair and the new regime needs time to get its act together. I have a very fair idea where this has come from - and you might be able to work out for yourself what opposition club may have leaked this. I will say no more.

Ok fair point - but can I just leave one question for Nicko (on behalf of all the interested parties that discussed it) - is their genuine unrest in the squad ? Are Ince's training methods not as scientific as we were led to believe ? Edit .. Oops
nicko Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 The game didn't go so well today...a 4-2 defeat. The good news? Robbie Fowler scored his first goal - a penalty. The formation was 4-3-3 with Fowler up top with Benni and Jason Roberts. French trialist Sable played right of the three in the middle. Zurab and Ooijer played at centre half...there were NO other trialists from what I hear. Bassye is in, Annan is in. There may be another...but that is for tomorrow. Totally off the radar tomorrow, by the way. So no news for a bit.

Bentley from his new found love Tottenham I bet! I don't think its a major thing to worry about, I'm sure the players were very fond of Hughes and it will take a bit of getting used to regardless of who the manager was, things were never going to stay the same, all managers have a different way of going about things. Only time will tell if it has a major impact on results.

Oops To be fair, I think Nickos answer has just made that a little difficult now I bet its Spurs who have leaked it as well..

novella Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 so we played a pretty strong team today and got beat 4 - 2 off blackpool.... less than two weeks till the start of the prem, better get this sorted quickly!
Hughesy Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Nicko did that Bassye fella play? Also how did Sable do?
hawkiiz Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 so we played a pretty strong team today and got beat 4 - 2 off blackpool.... how you know?? do have the full line-up?
greggyk Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 First thought was City........As for which players, I would guess Warnock, Benni? but Bentleys bound to have said stuff too!
novella Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 how you know?? do have the full line-up? just judging from nickos post further up.....
hawkiiz Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 just judging from nickos post further up..... sorry. didnt see it. thanks
JAL Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 so we played a pretty strong team today and got beat 4 - 2 off blackpool.... less than two weeks till the start of the prem, better get this sorted quickly! Ince continues to persevere with FOWLER i think i'll start a chant "weve only got ten men"
Hughesy Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 It was a behind doors 2nd string friendly - not 1st 11. Simply giving those that are lacking in fitness a chance. I cant believe some of the doomsday crap iv been reading on here lately - do these people actually support Blackburn?

I cant believe some of the doomsday crap iv been reading on here lately - do these people actually support Blackburn? yes.... but still benni, roberts zurab and ooijer played... hardly second string. it might of been a second string blackpool team. i agree they are just about fitness but its getting real close to the start of the season now.

Mc Love Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Everytime i think we are turning a corner with ince, there is another corner!!!

These guys have something like 20-40 years experience in the game so why should there be teething problems WHY FFS WHY? Is that because of the level they've been at the players obviously want to be challenged stimulated and learn something new whilst feeling good about going to work as they hone their skills waiting eagerly for the match to come around to strut their stuff in a winning team. Its been quoted that its like going back to the eighties at Brockhall with training - that for me and everyone connected with the club is not good at all, heads have to roll, and not neccessarily the players.
stuwilky Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 yes.... but still benni, roberts zurab and ooijer played... hardly second string. it might of been a second string blackpool team. i agree they are just about fitness but its getting real close to the start of the season now. It might have been, and pre-season is to get players fit, perhaps play with different formations, the result is largely irrelevant. These guys have something like 20-40 years experience in the game so why should there be teething problems WHY FFS WHY? You ever started a new job that hasnt had teething problems?

I cant believe some of the doomsday crap iv been reading on here lately - do these people actually support Blackburn? Yes- which is why we are questioning whether the manager should really be at Rovers. We're questioning whether action should be taken before he screws up the good work that has taken place over the last 4 years. British is not necessarily best. We got lucky with Hughes. It's looking like we got unlucky (John Barnes at Celtic anyone) with Ince. And we got beaten by BLACKPOOL. That's bad whatever the circumstances. Wake up and smell the coffee.
