rover6 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 You have to wonder how hard managers try sometimes. Everton could near enough take their pick of striker from around the world and who do they settle on? Alan Smith. It's the sort of transfer that, no doubt, makes Arsene Wenger allow himself a wry smile. These British managers still hankering after over-priced goods on the domestic market.

brian_gallagher85 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Everton signing Alan Smith tomorrow...poor business. Not for Newcastle I look forward to seeing him on his debut
Baggio Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Everton signing Alan Smith tomorrow...poor business. Fingers crossed.
Poita Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 A shot putter - how did that work then? Forgot to let go of the shot? A Shot Putter actually holds the world record over 30m. Not sure if you are familiar with explosive strength....
67splitscreen Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 A Shot Putter actually holds the world record over 30m. Not sure if you are familiar with explosive strength.... Sure am, but don't think it's the same as your on about

I have a feeling Alan Smith will play in midfield and Vaughan and Anichibe will get more games between them.
nicko Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Middlesbrough to sign Justin Hoyte from Arsenal...Danny Simpson starting to look even more like a good idea.
LeChuck Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 What makes you say that Nicko? I've always thought Hoyte to be a very good player, actually I think I'd prefer him to Simpson.
The Prof. Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 A Shot Putter actually holds the world record over 30m. Not sure if you are familiar with explosive strength.... Newcastle Brown does it for me!
hawkiiz Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 so only 1.5 or so millions for annan? that sounds weird to me but ok. similar hyped/aged players in the norwegian league is valued at least twice that.
brian_gallagher85 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 What makes you say that Nicko? I've always thought Hoyte to be a very good player, actually I think I'd prefer him to Simpson. So did I but he hasn't really done much of late to be honest....I'm guessing that Nicko is going to clarify his statement by telling us that he's costing £5m+
nicko Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 What makes you say that Nicko? I've always thought Hoyte to be a very good player, actually I think I'd prefer him to Simpson. Hoyte at around £3 million...Simpson on loan for a year with a big chance of getting him for less...I fancy the Man U kid more. After watching the Brazilian Da Silva briefly last night I suspect Danny Boy could be on his way from Man U permanently.
vintageadidas Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Smith will score against us if he plays. Debutants always score against us. Nicko, how much has Shorey cost Villa? They are looking pretty good for the season ahead.
Drakefyre Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 We haven't got one for Simpson, from everything said on here. And Annan should be cheap, as Start really need to sell.
sparkspakespoke Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 We haven't got one for Simpson, from everything said on here. And Annan should be cheap, as Start really need to sell. Why is that?
Bobby G Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Nicko, are Blackburn looking at any replacements for Benni or not? 7 million is a good offer for someone who is a bit too lazy to be consistent and is on the wrong side of 30. Possibly his best days are behind him... But who could we get in? It must be someone from abroad if we want value for money.
Lathund Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Why is that? The club is having some financial difficulties I believe. Our Norwegian users will know more, and correct me if I'm wrong. Even £1.5m is quite a lot of money in the Scandinavian leagues.

And Annan should be cheap, as Start really need to sell. they need money but for 1.5m i dont think they are THAT desperate. they was relegated last year, but offloaded a lot of players and will get back up this year. then they DO NEED annan thats for sure. plus they have to share the money with some talent-searchers, so 1.5m is nothing. they will probably just have 8m NOK from that sale, and to be fair that is nothing. i cant believe it if we get him THAT cheap. 8m NOK is just about enough to get a decent house in Oslo. not a lot.

Galatasaray have a deadline to meet tomorrow while Sunderland are yet to put a bid on the table despite making calls to say they will. I think one is likely to come in though.
Bobby G Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Any clues on the player? Is it Cissé? I hope its a pacy player...
Roversider Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Everton signing Alan Smith tomorrow...poor business. Totally agree Nicko, Smith is an absolute liability nowadays. Outstandingly poor for the Mags last season and I doubt many of their fans will miss him. But here is the question, Johnson out to Fulham and Smith in? There seems to be an air of desperation around Goodison at the moment. What is the problem? Are they as hard up as City? By the way good shout some time ago to put some dosh on City going down. How is Hughes reacting I wonder, brave outward show but perhaps worrying a little?

Thanks guys. It does seem slightly strange that the fee would be quite so little. I've seen his name mentioned a few times now and he's be linked with some big clubs. 1.5 million is nothing nowadays so I dont really understand it. Either he has a very proactive agent, we're getting a real bargin or he's really 33 like Martins

Will this be another Robinson/Friedel deal, meaning we will only sell Benni once we get in our replacement?
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I understand you don't want to divulge the player name, but what kind of price bracket is he in? It might give us an idea of the quality we are looking at if we don't get this one.
