  1. Difficult for me to comment, not living in Blackburn, but if this is true then it's very worrying. Hopefully its just a phase the club is going through.
  2. Or increase the capacity to 40k and halve the prices. We're doing OK on attendances. Staying in the prem is the most important factor as far as TV money is concerned and more than makes up for money lost at the gate. Anyway I have a feeling we're gonna have a fantastic season so those who haven't renewed are gonna regret it come Xmas. Just my humble opinion
  3. Apologies if this has already been mentioned but haven't the obscene ticket prices got something to do with it? When you consider what the average wage must be in the Blackburn area there must be a lot of families who simply can't afford to shell out that kind of money for a football match. Why for the same as one match you can have a month's worth on Sky. The Leeds fiasco will do finances in the game in this country a lot of good. Clubs need to get the wage levels down so that tickets can once again be affordable.
  4. FFS the fixtures have not even been unscrambled by the Premier League's computer and we're already arguing about how well we and Souness will do next season. OK last season was a struggle but thats behind us now and personally I'm looking forward to Euro 2004 and my hols rather than worrying about whether Souness will still be our manager in October.
  5. Just got tickets for a quarter final in Lisbon on 25th but want 2 tickets for England v Croatia on 21st which I understand are still available. Anyone got any ideas how I may get some as I'm not a member of the englandfans club. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. There must be a joke in there somewhere. A parrot walks into a sex shop, asks for an inflatable doll and the shopkeeper says.......... Discuss. (I'll buy a pint after the Brum game for the best suggestion.) We only have one left in the shop but it keeps going down!!!
  7. Nothing wrong with Jan supporting two teams, after all they are not even in the same country. As for Jan's commitment to Rovers I don't think anyone can doubt it, travelling hundreds of miles as she does. And she has every right to have an opinion on Souness as we all have. Just not sure if it's always for Rovers related reasons!
  8. Maybe we should have taken more notice when we were beaten by a "sub standard" Leeds side at Elland Rd. I agree with Jim Mk2, we don't seem to have players who can measure up at this level of football. If we are to survive then it will be through fight and effort. Lets hope we can manage some of that in the last few games
  9. Nice one Paul, Of course we're all naffed off that things aren't going well but if we are to get out of this problem we need to have faith in the players and manager. Yes it was a sacrilege to throw a two goal lead away but that's football. Even if we sign two new players this month they will take time to settle in with no guarantee they will do so smoothly. We desperately need a fit Craig Short other than that the team is OK.
  10. So a question then? Is it better to play well and lose (a la Boro/Celtic away) or play rubbish and get a point or three? For me there's no doubt. But that could mean we get relegated.
  11. I would just like to clarify what I originally said at the start of this thread. The comparison between the Parkhead area of Glasgow and Beirut was made by a Scottish friend who happened to be travelling through the area on his way from Dundee to a match at Partick. It was not my view. I personally have never, before last Thursday, been to either Glasgow (or Beirut for that matter). My intention was to urge caution against Rovers fans encountering any trouble whilst visiting that particular area of Glasgow based on what I had been told. Thankfully, as far as I'm aware no trouble occurred. In fact it seems that most Rovers fans were given a warm welcome. I'm glad that some of the locals have taken the trouble to defend their city as it shows that they are proud of it and that the image it portrays to others is not quite what it seems.
  12. Didn't get chance to see much of Glasgow last night as we stayed outside the city, but have to say that it didn't look half as bad as I had been led to expect. OK, it's clear that this part of Glasgow "has seen better days" as they say, and that a lot of the older housing is being knocked down to make way for more amenable facilities. This is typical of many big cities across the UK. What did impress me however was the friendliness of the few Glaswegians we happened to meet, from the taxi driver (who never stopped winding us up about the violence we might encounter) to the Celtic fan we drank with until the early hours. An experience I would not have missed depite the result.
  13. Thanks for the reassurance aldo 63 Please do not see my previous message as a slur on the east end of Glasgow or Celtic in any way. I am simply passing on what I have been told by my friend who is a Dundee Utd fan. I have no reason to doubt what he says. However I accept that there are good and bad in all towns and cities and will be going to the match regardless. I hope (if the opportunity arises) to share some of your Scottish hospitality with like minded football supporters who can accept the occasion for what it is and respect the opposition, regardless of the result.
  14. Just had a warning from a Scottish colleague at work who reckons that the part of Glasgow we will be visiting is comparable to Beirut and that at the last Old Firm game there were 47 stabbings on the day. Please take care wherever you are staying/ drinking etc. Hope to see everyone safe and sound on this board at the week-end.
  15. Could be. I'm definitely from the same era. BTW have we all got our Walsall tickets yet?
  16. Don't know what all the fuss is about, Tris. I thought the UEFA Cup was low priority. Can't get excited about it personally. Why on earth should people be falling over themselves to try to get tickets for some meaningless match in a meaningless competition. PS. See you at Parkhead tomorrow
  17. This loyalty, season tickets etc. discussion is going nowhere. Fact is, the club vastly underestimated demand for this game and as a result, on the day it was pot luck as to whether you were going to get a ticket or not. If anyone has by-passed the rules then they can be criticised but let's not make those who got their ticket through normal channels and are going to the match feel guilty by conducting a witch hunt. As always the definition of loyalty can be quite subjective so it is up to the club to make this call.
  18. So a non season ticket holder who goes to EVERY home match and some away games is less deserving of a ticket than a season ticket holder who doesn't bother to turn up for Worthy Cup matches or other similarly unattractive games. I don't think so. The sooner we have a points scheme which adequately reflects all fans' loyalty over the years, the better.
  19. My wonderful daughter came up trumps on the phone for me whilst I was at work this morning, to finally repay the considerable investment I have made in her since she was born. Of course I realise I'm lucky and that there will be many more who feel that they are more deserving. However, as I have said previously, the club should come up with a scheme to fairly assess and reward loyalty and not leave it to pot luck.
  20. This whole ticket situation appears to have been handled badly. Although I agree that those who went all the way to Sofia should be given priority 1. Why on earth has it taken so long to announce something which could have taken a couple of days? 2. Why have those season ticket holders who regularly go to away matches also not been given first chance(I don't count myself in that number as I only go away occasionally)? 3. Why must we accept tickets for an area of the ground with an extremely restricted view? Surely being guests we should be treated as such?. All the relevant information is held on the clubs computers so why can't they come up with a method of assessing loyalty by say allocating points according to the matches attended. or am I suggesting the impossible e.g. Season ticket holder 19 points (one per home game) Non season ticketholder 1 point ( per home game ) Away match attended 2 points Worthy Cup Home 2 points Worthy Cup Away 3 points FA Cup Home 1 point FA Cup Away 2 points UEFA Cup Home 1 point UEFA Cup Away 5 points That way there would be no doubt about which supporters should be given priority. The club could also issue a loyalty card which fans could use to obtain discounts according to their points total. Obviously there would have to be some adjustment from season to season but at least those who support the club through thick and thin would be rewarded.
