  1. Radio Lancs reporting that rovers have ended their interest in pedersen. Also, Fergy's ban confirmed. I'll be back when I've hung this piece of wallpaper.
  2. This translation is on the Official site's m/b: The board supplied by head coach Høgmo has tonight discussed the offer from Blackburn for Morten Gamst Pedersen. In it's present form it's not agreeable but there is a good foundation for furter negotiations. This means that there is a certain possiblity for the transfer to through if Blackburn shows willingness to negtiotiate. Bjørn Tore Markussen, daily leader of Tromsø explains: - This is not an easy issue for the club. We have a lot of considerations to make - to the player, to our ambitions on the field, the supporters, our economy, our sponsors, and the club's reputation. - The main conclusion is that the offer is of such value that we have decided to try an honest effort to reach an agreement. Primary because we feel that Morten through his performances and loyalty to the club deserves it. When he wants this so much, we will try to assist his wishes, although we must preserve the club's interests. - The offer is traditionaly build up. It contains a certain guaranteed fee, a performance related and a sell on clause. The total frame is good, but we're not satisfied with how it's split. - TIL (Tromsø) have had direct contact with Blackburn tonight and will put forward a new suggestion. If this is considered constructive by the other part, closing negotiations will take part in the near future.
  3. This is the worrying part Rich. He has a full squad [virtually], but hasn't got the confidence to pick his best starting eleven and stick with it. If he hasn't got that confidence at this stage of the season, I can only presume this is way it will continue. I don't see any reason why things will change, it was chop and change all the way last year. That's not fair on anyone, including the players.
  4. I said it after the west brom game, but if Souness doesn't have the confidence to play a stable 4-4-2 against them and Southampton - teams who are gonna struggle, then it's going to be another long, hard season. You would think we were hard hit by injuries judging by team selection, but he has virtually a full squad to pick from.
  5. There's an awful amount of bad language being used. This site used to be above all that but a few people are prepared to ignore that. Personally, I'm not prepared to edit every ****, so in future the easiest thing is for the mods to simply delete the post. Please keep posts decent. Oh, and please refrain from personal abuse.
  6. Sky are going for Brad Emerton Short Nissa Gray Tugay Flitty Ferguson Matteo Yorke Stead
  7. I remember that little ditty. Welcome to the board tonyoz. Maybe, when we get further into this "best ever team" thing, you can enlighten some of the fans who haven't seen the players from the 50's and 60's?
  8. I went for Roger Jones. It was tough, but the fact that he is still remembered quite a few years later, by so many people, even though he only played in the lower leagues, just swayed me. I agree with bob F as well, a good keeper is a good keeper, no matter what league he played in.
  9. We're now getting some info on the older brigade. That's great, keep 'em coming.
  10. Must admit, I can't make my mind up.
  11. Time to vote. This poll will run until two weeks today. That should take any accusations of bias out of it.
  12. Cocker, I'm sure I just tried to explain all that. bob fleming: I've written a few lines on Gennoe - maybe not the best few lines anyones ever written about him but at least I've had a go. We need people who have seen the "older" players to put a good case forward for their inclusion in the "all time BRFCS XI" - then when "nominations" are in everyone can have a vote. I might be completely wrong but I'm sure there are people on here who can write a glowing testamonial on Ronnie Clayton that will convince even the youngest of fans that he should make the team. den: The whole idea of having the discussion before the vote, is for some of the older members to give some of the younger members a bit of an insight into how good [or elsewise] some of the players from before our time, really were. I mean, I've never seen Bob Crompton, but there will be many reasons for his inclusion at Right Back!
  13. Important one that, FLB. We need everyone to make a judgement as to who was/is the greatest ever player in that position. Not exclusively the best player they have personally seen. I would go for Harry Leyland, who I never saw, if someone who did see him, put a persuasive argument forward. We'll only get one go at choosing this team, so let's have a good discussion before we vote and let's all have an open mind. Remember, we are looking for the best rovers team ever.
  14. You are spot on bob. The whole idea of having the discussion before the vote, is for some of the older members to give some of the younger members a bit of an insight into how good [or elsewise] some of the players from before our time, really were. It's not an easy one, but I'm sure there are quite a few of the older brigade who do remember fred Else and harry Leyland for example. How about some of the exiles, some of them can go back a long way? I'm waiting a reasonable amount of time in order to see whether someone can put a case for some of the afore mentioned players. We all know about Brad and Flowers, that's not a problem. Having said that, if no one can put a case forward, that's fair enough, we'll just vote on the nominations as they stand. Not having seen some of the named players, shouldn't prevent them getting nominated. I mean, I've never seen Bob Crompton, but there will be many reasons for his inclusion at Right Back!
  15. You can't! You're going to get a vote shortly. If I know you Philipl, you wont be able to abstain.
  16. The most worrying thing for me, was that after all last seasons disappointments and a summer to get things back on track, we couldn't put out a side to play 4-4-2, that was able to cope with West Brom.
  17. My opinion? I know that Harry Leyland was very popular. He was the keeper in the F.A. cup final. Likewise Fred Else was excellent. Roger Jones was signed from Bournemouth and was an England U21 keeper. He gave one of the best ever performances by a rovers keeper that I've ever seen. He kept out Bolton Wanderers almost single handedly at Burnden Park. Any one else remember that. Jim Arnold was one of the most agile shot stoppers ever to wear the rovers colours. Terry Gennoe - a legend. Got better and better as the years went by. Tim Flowers - top man, but possibly not the best keeper. Although took top spot in victory at ewood night. A vital performance in a vital match. Brad Friedal - Seemingly doesn't have a weakness. Maybe a little earlt to vote Brad as the top keeper ever. So, I reckon it has to be --- errr, very difficult. Maybe I'll take a little time to pick between Jones, Gennoe and Flowers. Then again, Friedal and Flowers played at the top level. Does that make them better keepers?
  18. A few people have shown interest in a discussion and vote, for rovers best ever team. It should be fun, quite interesting and create a bit of a diversion from the day to day events down at Ewood. What we are trying to do is allow the members on here the opportunity of voting in, position by position, a team of players from all the era's of Blackburn Rovers - past and present. We have a short list, drawn up with the help of members on this site. The biggest obstacle to it being the REAL greatest team, is the fact that a lot of the members have never seen some of the players from, say, the sixties or seventies. What we need, to try to put forward the case for these players , is the input from the members that DID see them. If any of those members wish to put forward a special case for their favourite player, then please be sure to put that forward in the discussion. Ideally, the discussion should see people putting forward the reasons why, for instance, Lucas Neill is the best ever rovers right back Hopefully, those reasons will be properly considered . we will see how it goes. The admin/mods will decide on the nominations to be voted in. [someone has to do that]. The team will play in a 4-4-2 formation. So, the nominations for the greatest ever rovers goalkeeper are: 1 Harry Leyland 1956-1961 total app 188 2 Fred Else, 1961-1966 total app 221 3 Roger Jones 1970-1976 total app 277 4 Jim Arnold 1979-1981 total app72 5 Terry Gennoe 1981-1992 total app334 6 Tim Flowers 1993-1999 total app 214 England International 7 Brad Friedal 2000- still at club USA International These nominations are open for discussion for the next few days. After that, they will be put to a vote.
  19. Nothing like a bit of optimism at the start of the season is there? I don't think we have the fire power to succeed at this level. So there you go, I'll be going into the west brom game expecting nothing out of it. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we win it.
  20. 1 Arsenal 2 Chelsea 3 Man U 4 Liverpool 5 Tottenham 6 Aston Villa 7 Newcastle 8 Middlesboro 9 Birmingham 10 Fulham 11 Man City 12 Portsmouth 13 Bolton 14 Charlton 15 West Brom 16 Southampton 17 Everton 18 Norwich 19 Blackburn R 20 Crystal Palace
  21. Don't know how you're fixed now Abbey, West Brom have just terminated his contract!
  22. Breaking news on SSN. He has been found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.
  23. No, I don't think he is over reacting. Al is one of our well respected posters and deserves a bit more consideration than he got.
  24. Because we have just given our top striker away, can't find another one. So Yorke is now the saviour. It's certainly not because Dwight is suddenly a better player than the one he wanted rid of, is it?
  25. Friedal Neill Amo Matteo Gray Flitty Ferguson Tugay De Pedro Stead Dickov
