  1. Depends what he offered. He could have offered a pittance. Means nothing if we don't know what it was they turned down. They will sell one day. Even the richest fools don't like losing money continually
  2. 1) Help Venky's fend off the threat of FFP - Every penny from your half season ticket purchase goes straight into their pockets! 2) Buy your half season ticket - perfectly timed for the highly anticipated return of Ben Gladwin
  3. This is a good point. I am not totally up on all the facts but I think FFP is calculated on a rolling 3 year period with a £39 million overspend allowance. We had a 'good' financial year in 16-17 due to selling Rhodes ( £4 mill loss ). 17 -18 was £16 mill loss and 18-19 probably something similar ( not yet recorded ). That means we only have maybe £6 or £7 mill to play with this year which we may be sailing very close to. So the answer - to avoid a Brum type points deduction - would have been to sell Dack and NOT reinvest it in players. Something we may have to do every 3 years or so. With that plan now gone, I can't see any investment in January or in the summer and we still may fail FFP. I'm sure some of you know the situation better than me but it doesn't look good really.
  4. I agree that Johnson is a better footballer and should have started but he's not the annoying, wind up merchant, hard man type that get stuck in every match. We need one. Bring back Robbie Savage
  5. Morsy did a job on us last night and was very effective. He also nearly curled one in the top corner late on ( good save by Walton). Many successful teams have a hard man in middle. We are too soft.
  6. After Bristol I read a comment in a newspaper that we were starting to look like the team most likely to break out of the chasing pack into the playoffs. Last night in front of a decent crowd, on TV, at home to the bottom club we put the record straight. No chance of the playoffs if we have many more performances like that. I think we can all see the problems. We have no leaders, no fight and little imagination. No real goal threat. Wigan nullified us and were probably better overall. Morsy is one of those players everyone loves to hate but I'd have him in our team tomorrow. Their left back would walk into our team and probably their centre half. Windass wasn't great but he seemed to find space a lot better than any of our forwards. And Wigan are bottom with 1 away win in about 30 games or so! Occasionally we can look quite good ( Bristol, Brentford ) but often we look terrible. Averaged out over the season mid table is probably our realistic position. Good to see Walton have a good game and Holtby was decent but overall very disappointing team performance.
  7. I remember reading a Sunderland fanzine many years ago that contained a readers vote on all time best Sunderland 11 and all time worst Sunderland 11. Howard Gayle made both teams!
  8. He definitely ran out in a curly wig once.
  9. Saying something if he is almost first name in team shit! Will he ever make it to team average or team 'not too bad' ?
  10. I didn't go last night so can't give an opinion but it's interesting that a number of people that attended said Travis did OK or was even very good. However, Radio Lancs ( Bayes and Gallacher ) criticised him from start to finish because he was taking far too many touches, giving the ball away and constantly slowing down play. They said it was his worst game for a long time. Which view is correct ?
  11. I didn't say he was a good businessman! My point was he doesn't seem know much about the football side of things. Wouldn't want him leading the search for a new manager
  12. I've been trying to change mine to say I am boycotting but can't work out how to do it either.
  13. I would hate to think that Waggott would have the responsibility of appointing the next manager. He doesn't seem to have much clout and he is a business man not a football man.
  14. I wonder what would happen to Waggott and Venus if Mowbray did walk. If Mowbray really is the good egg many people think he is, he may have concerns that his actions may affect the careers of his mates who followed him to the club. Did they all leave Coventry en masse ?
  15. You are absolutely right about the amounts invovled and obviously understand the financial side of things a lot better than I do. However the figures are grim whichever way you look at them and at some point Venky's will lose patience and interest ( if they actually have any ). What happens then ? that day will come at some point. That is what I am trying to get across in response to the original post that said 'Venky's have done their bit'. One day we may look back and see exactly what they have done.
  16. This was in the LET last time the annual figures were announced: Rovers’ overdraft, currently with the State Bank of India, is up for renewal in March, with the club directors confident it will be renewed. The club’s ‘ultimate parent company’ Venkateshwara Hatcheries Pvt. Ltd ‘has sufficient funds and is willing to provide such additional financing as may be required to fund the company’ for the foreseeable future. My point is that this won't go on forever. There is an overdraft to pay back at some point. How long is the foreseeable future ? You may not be worried but I am.
  17. As Venky's provide money to pay the bills and 'bank roll' the club, net laibilities increase proportionally. What's the debt now £170 million ? We may well end up like Bolton if the Bank of India decides it wants some money back.
  18. Obviously it's great to win even when we are not playing well but are you happy with the performances and the direction we are going. If you are being honest you are probably as worried as the rest of us.
  19. So Mowbray thinks Gallagher has regressed since he was here last but he's a good investment ! Travis gives the ball away too much but he's a nice lad Your saying all the wrong things Tony And if I was Rothwell I'd put in a transfer request tomorrow after that article. I can't think of any other manager who likes to talk players down instead of up.
  20. Just waiting for Gladwin to be described as 'like a new signing' when he gets fit just in time for a new contract in January
  21. Taking your point literally, in term of position in the league, we are slightly better off. But.. Is the football better ? has the club invested well ? Does the team appear to have an appetite for a battle ? Is there a good team spirit ? Is there a general positive feel about the club ? Is the team progressing/growing/performing better ( compared to last season ) ? Is the manager inspiring our crop of young players? Is the club happy to rely on a loan goalkeeper when we sold a very good one last summer ? I could go on. Saying we are in a far better position than when Mowbray arrived is really stretching it. ( Not entirely his fault though )
  22. And a united fan base, a genuine board of directors, a club with ambitions and....hope. All things of the past.
  23. This is something I heard a while ago:
  24. It says everything! Football clubs, like most businesses, need hard work and lots of care and attention on a daily basis. Chucking money at the club from afar will never work. They obviously have no interest whatsoever. Bring on Vexit.
  25. Agree with the idea but there is no chance Mowbray will do anything even slightly experimental at this point. Unfortunately the season is far from over - for all the wrong reasons.
