here is a video of Tugay of his career. best midfield ive ever seen in rovers shirt

josh from brfcs who produce the podcast made this.

great of him to do so.

thought it might cheer people up for few minutes.

I think Tugay should be on the next manager coaching staff. for me, he is doing his coaching badges and is keen to come back to rovers

That is some incredible collection of screamers!

It seemed a bit excessive at the time seeing as he only had a few games and was probably going from five hundred per week. I was also led to believe it was plus bonuses and on a sliding upward scale so god knows how much it became. Young Adam was quick to tell his former school pals how much he was getting when on the lash regularly, it certainly didn't do him any favours.

Point is if this is the kind of deals they were signing youth up on at the time it won't have helped the wage bill and also will have lumbered the club with a few who nobody else would take when they failed to make the grade here.

That is still only 1 youth player. The implication in the post that started this conversation was that agents were signing a lot of our youth players onto big contracts at the club.

That doesn't seem to be the case though?

What lesson have Venkys learnt ? And where's any evidence that they've done so ? Didn't bother reading the rest

1-Don't buy a football club when you know jack-sh1t about football

2-Do not sack a respected coach and replace him with a coach recommended by an agent

3-Do not stick with that coach when it is obvious none of the fans want him and that he will relegate the team

4-Do not stick with him after relegation

5-Do not bring a Malaysian football pundit in as a global advisor

6-Throwing money into a relegated team does not guarantee promotion and will land you under FFP restrictions

7-Get football people in and let them make football decisions (the Coyle appointment was an absolutely terrible decision, so I suppose you can't always trust "football people" either!)

I would say the above 7 points have been their key leanings

Correct Smith was a loan. Still you pay a loan fee and wages etc. Powell/Barnes linked throughout the same summer too. Infact that Barnes link never went away.

    Sam Rush - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4299028/Derby-not-level-playing-field-WMG-say-agents.html

I've seen the Olsson stuff, a list of transfers is available on FA website.

The issue is becoming a monopoly by those links like BRFC and Derby, i don't deny some agents are good but the SEM links need cutting all together and if that means we miss out on players then so be it.

I wonder if Suhail Pasha is going to answer this link on the 30th which names him as a Kentaro employee - http://www.zoominfo.com/p/Suhail-Pasha/-1981760026 Yet he is shadowing directing the club going by the name "Pasha" when in fact hes actually called Shaikh.

Ya it should be diversified where possible, but player quality needs to be number the number 1 factor.

Sliding scale approach... SEM who are no more but existing in the forms of Kentaro AG and Wassermann Media Group with notable ex SEM agents Neil Fewnings and Paul Martin now working for WMG pulling the strings in the UK.

Neil Fewnings pocketed 1 million after SEM went in bringing Murphy and Kazim Richards to the club http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2306573/Financial-picture-Blackburn-Venkys-revealed--Exclusive.html. Since then without the PL riches it's been a scaled down approach for the EX SEM men now WMG for Hope Akpan and Danny Guthrie, Elliott Ward & Wes Brown.

Most players who were with SEM like Chris Long, Nick Powell, Kieran Gibbs, Nick Blackman, Brad Smith have moved over to WMG. Now Powell and Smith were certainly linked to BRFC under Coyle including another WMG player Giles Barnes, whilst Blackman played for BRFC. Another disconcerting fact is, why ex WMG chief ended up at Derby as a director and signed up no less than 10 WMG players.

Every time a contract gets renewed, every time they play or get paid, 10% cut to the agency etc.

The Simon Conning approach along with his old pals Neil Fewnings and Paul Martin works very similar. Get Nyambe and co in the team for the apperance money and re-negotiate contracts for 4-5 years skimming 10% off.

    Quite lucrative.

If it don't happen for a while take a leaf out of Neil Fewnings book straight from the book of Jerome ... Partner with a fellow agent, step forward Marcus Olsson agent HCM who on the paperwork lodged with the FA partnered with "Neil Fewnings". Yep the very same WMG man with the very same WMG linked clubs as mentioned above.

Agents are a horrible aspect of modern football, no doubt about that. We got absolutely fleeced by them over the past 6 years, but there was a concentrated period when we were probably getting fleeced and signing more dross than anyone else. Venkys learnt an extremely costly lesson.

The unfortunate reality is that we will need to engage with agents to sign players going forward. There is no alternative. Picking and choosing agents isn't the answer either though. Number 1 is the focus on the right players we need to improve our squad and then work to deal with their agents. Every club is getting fleeced by them in one was or another. They are a horrible devious breed by and large though and a horrible by product of the money that has flooded the game.

Even though I saw it before, reading that article is so depressing. It strikes me though that the one thing that Venkys really made a mess of was picking managers. If they had have gotten in a Mick MCarthy or a Warnock our first year in the Championship and given them the transfer reigns. I am pretty sure we would have been promoted in a similar fashion to Newcastle. So depressing.

Depends which player really? Reece Hands was another now been released by greenock morton.

It levels as some where training with the first team to some being moved to u-21 from u-18.

They got there hands on most which is obivious as to why, big appearance money, cut of sales, commissions paid as they all signed new contracts.

But they haven't played for us and most have been released by other clubs. I don't see where the profit for agents is in this instance? I can't see a signing commission/bonus for handful of no mark youth players being that lucrative.

  7. There is no guarantee that Mowbray will stick with Steele just because he had him at boro. The thing is though that we have been spoiled here with our goalkeepers. Friedel in particular set an unachievable standard that is pretty much impossible to repeat, even if we were still in the premiership. Hopefully Raya comes good, because I think it will be very difficult to sign a goalkeeper of the standard we all expect and want at the club.

  8. If you are getting wound up by me saying that I am more optimistic about this summer than I have been of previous summers under Venkys, you need to see a counsellor and learn some stress management techniques.

Either that or maybe you really enjoyed previous summers under Venkys. In which case, you should also see a counsellor.

I know its not aimed at me, but its such a good question and in no way posted to antagonise anyone.

I really enjoyed the summer after we got relegated from the Premiership, that has to be my favourite under Venkys

Looking forward to Championship football, players leaving, all Jack Walkers good work thrown down the toilet and the piece de resistance was the 'Venkys confused' interview, it was great to hear our illustrious owners had everything under control. I could go on, pie and beer queue went down, parking was easier and the standard of football was more at my level, in fact at times I could have gotten a game, so that was my favourite summer under Vnkys.

    How about yours?

I haven't really enjoyed any to be honest.

I am more positive about this one. We have a proper manager, a DOF to improve communications with the owners and some talented young players coming through.

  10. We need to keep Mahoney. He is exactly the type of player we need right now to excite the fans. If he leaves, he won't be replaced adequately. All the money that has been wasted here over the years, this seems like a no brainer. I would say what division we are in will play a huge part in his decision.

The DoF rarely works in the English game as Alex Ferguson said manager's manage coaches coach

We do have deadwood in the squad quite a bit tbf

As far as signings we all know that there's further cost cutting going to come

Mowbray won't be signing the players which will be a big problem it will be senior

But let's concentrate on staying up for now before the Burton game I said we needed minimum of 8 points from the Next four games we have achieved that so let's keep it going I think the home games are the key to staying up and picking something up unexpectedly on our travels

Nothing wrong with that as long as Mowbray has an input. Which I would assume he will.

We've always had fans who thought selling our best players and replacing with cheaper versions was the way forward - and in fact "it's something we've always done".  It IS astonishing though, that after everything that's gone on over six and a half years, some fans STILL believe it's a method that could bring success.

How long does it take to sink in?

I don't think anyone thought it was the way forward, but it was necessary for many seasons in the Premiership. Selling Santa Cruz, Bentley etc for big money was the right decision at the time. The key is reinvesting the money well. Which by and large we did over the years BV(before venkys)

No doubt about it , that side of things has slipped massively under the current owners. We are coming at this now from a  certain level. My point is that I believe things are settling down a bit behind the scenes and in the dugout. I am not going to burst into a rendition of "Things can only get better" but I do believe we will be stronger next season and that relegation is not inevitable.

You're in La La Land and going to be very disappointed.

Not one piece of evidence from the last 6 years can justify that optimism but you require proof from others.

I wanted proof about a phone call(which has not come, incidentally). What does that have to do with me being optimistic?

Your point doesn't make sense, but I will play along. The reason why I am more optimistic is because we now have a DOF to improve communications with the owners. We have a solid managerial appointment. The manager has already spoken to the owners, which was not the case with previous managers. So that would suggest to me that small changes are happening, for the better.

Look I am not getting into a big debate about this. I feel more optimistic about this summer(provided we stay up of course) I am not asking anyone else to. I will leave it at that.

It's going to be a big ask. They've set the bar very high over the years.

What do you predict will happen?

I'm guessing a few free transfers incoming and the sale of our better players. That seems to be the template.

The low bar setting probably does play a part :)

Some decent signings in (free or not, doesn't matter if they are good) , none of our important  players leaving, deadwood cleared out and new contracts for Mahoney, Lowe and possible Guthrie. All combined with the most solid manager we have had since Allardyce. That is the minimum I expect. Which I would argue is the most positive summer since Venkys took over. Anything extra is a bonus.

    Just now, gumboots said:

Whatever gives you that idea? They've already said they're planning to cut costs again. As blueboy says, it's freebies, cheap wages and sell anyone another team might fork out a bit of cash for to keep things ticking over. Unless they do a total u turn which, given their weird and wonderful ways, they might. But then look who we have in charge of recruitment - he whose wife is an agent.

I know we have been burned by agents, but I don't think we need to over focus on this. Anderson was a different animal.
