  1. Just out of curiosity, how many Protestant members of your family are Celtic supporters and how many Catholic members are Rangers supporters? None that I know of, but that wasn't my point in the first place. Of course religion would have had an affect on which side of the family supported which team in years gone by, but of my living relatives none support either Old Firm team for any reason other than being brought up by parents that supported the team as well. I'm not saying that religion plays no part in the Old Firm support (that would be idiotic), but 1864's assertion that it was purely about religion rubbed me the wrong way - as I said originally, there are many fans on both sides of the divide that don't give a toss about religion. Unfortunately, the offensive voices speak the loudest. By the way, I hate discussing the Old Firm on this message board. The Old Firm games are like watching two local pub teams batter each other. I like watching the Old Firm games, not because I'm religious in anyway, I don't support or want either team to win, it's a high intense derby, whichever way you look at it and always has controversy in the game. There are fans from both clubs in Glasgow who aren't bothered about the religion anymore, but there are supporters there who are very religious about the whole thing. It's always going to be about that, no matter what happens.
  2. We do have local fans as well, your point is? As Sunday gets ever closer I'm getting more excited about beating them, again. It's going to be a tough game, especially the first half hour. Have Burnley sold out yet? Burnley v Blackburn
  3. All derbies are special in their own way. The teams involved, especially the two sets of fans, know how important it is to them, bragging rights etc. To be honest, I'm not sure that neutrals who are not from this area of the world actually realise what this game is all about. But one of the most intense derby games I've seen on television is Roma v Lazio, I would love to go to a game like that.
  4. I don't support any other team, Rovers will always be the team I'll support, whatever. There are teams who I want to do well but I don't follow them, I see their results every month or so and think good luck to do. But no other team than Rovers.
  5. Good to see you got a ticket GAV. Have a good day out like we all will, hopefully and stay out of trouble.
  6. Burnley have around 600 tickets left for the game on Sunday. According to the L.E.T.
  7. Any football supporter who saw Ferguson play in the EPL will know that he failed to produce the goods here, we know it seeing him play every week. There's more to Ferguson than meets the eye, he hasn't gone back to Rangers because of what he's said. He's saying what he wants people to think about Rovers. Wasn't he at one point saying how lucky he was to be given the chance to play at some of the world's greatest stadiums and against the best players in the world? He's not worth it, let him produce his 'great' performances for Rangers because he will against the likes of Dundee. But if that's Scotland's captain, no wonder as an international side they're so poor.
  8. Well, nothing surprises me with Barry back home in his favourite league. Let him say what he wants, we have a local derby, FA Cup compared to yet another Old Firm game. A game that is usually a scrappy, boring game and the person who cocks up in the game allows the other team to score. Ferguson turned off by Rovers tie
  9. You're right in saying it's a win win situation for you. I have a few mates who are Burnley season ticket holders and they all say that they're confident of beating us. But I'd say there's a big difference in Rovers first team compared to Liverpool's reserves. I just hope we win, everyone will be wanting us to lose.
  10. I'm about to start reading, England Away, by John King. I'll let you know what it's like when I've finished reading it.
  11. if thats the logic has to be deb - she wears the trousers in that relationship That's a bit like Victoria Beckham isn't it? So we all know what GAV wears!
  12. I don't know or care what prediction anyone predicts, just as long as it's a Rovers win. It'd be un-thinkable to lose against them. We are better them, I think. Our players over there's, I'd take ours anyday. What is crucial is the first 10/15 minutes of both halfs depending on the score. Burnley are going to be at us from the first whistle. We're the bully-boys, so let's bully them a bit, if we can match their physical ability, which I'm conifdent we will then we will win. Team - Friedel Neill - Nelsen - Todd - Nissa Brett - Savage - Reid - MGP Dickov - Gally Reason I've dropped Tugay and put in Reid is that I believe Reid will be up for it. Reid's been in derby games like Burnley v Rovers with Millwall. Reid's more physical than Tugay and for an hour could be the key. Although I'd bring Tugay on with half n hour to go. Can't wait.
  13. Tough one. Toss of a coin? Then again, the loser will see it as unfair, but a 50/50 chance. Football's a mans game, so take the ticket GAV.
  14. There are two sides to every story. I don't know actually what happened with the death of the Carlisle fan. But I do remember hearing about what happened to the Notts Forest fan. Any football fan that is murdered, in any way is a disgrace. Remember the two Leeds fans in Istanbul that were killed? Like I said, there's two sides to every story.
  15. I can see why people want to go on the trains. Personally, I'm taking the offical coaches just because it's the easiest thing. In the ground very early and out on the bus straight away. I'm sure there will be 'fans' wanting to cause trouble, from both Rovers and Burnley. If you're on the train, keep your head down and a low profile.
  16. As soon as someone finds the copy of that brilliant game you all enjoyed watching at Ewood on the 1st April 2001, we'll send you it. We're talking about hammering are local rivals, not once but bloody twice.
  17. I'm on Coach 11 as well. Burnley allowed the singing area for their fans, according to some Burnley mates and the L.E.T it hasn't worked, so as if this welcome to hell will.
  18. Well said. I think Hughes has done really well for Rovers so far. Especially in the January transfer window bringing in players such as Nelsen and Savage. What we failed to bring in was a striker, we all know it and it's obvious from watching us. The club need to splash out on a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, whoever that maybe, unless they want another season of scrapping.
  19. Dissapointing attendance again yesterday. But playing at home to a team struggling like ourselves isn't going to bring the casual fans out. With a good win and a good performance, please hoping for a win next Sunday, some fans may come back. Will the club do the scheme of kid for a quid when we play Southampton at home? The performances are getting better and I bet that this time next year the attendances will have risen, even if it's just slightly.
  20. Great win. For the first time in ages, I enjoyed myself with twenty odd minutes to go. We played well, solid look about the team. I felt confident after hearing the team news, in that Neill and Matteo had been dropped after last week, especially Matteo. Nissa played well, Nelsen looks a great bit of business. Todd was solid as a rock, Savage and Dickov worked hard once again. MGP looks to be gaining more and more confidence each game. Good to see Tugay back. Both us and Burnley have won today, both going into next week's derby with confidence. I sense a real battle next week, I just wonder if Reid might partner Savage to start off with. Blackburn 3-0 Norwich
  21. I know a few lads who have got tickets in the Burnley home areas and they said it was really easy to get tickets, no questions asked. Apparently Burnley have around 1000 tickets left.
  22. The club have done the Burnley ticket situation fairly. I had a feeling before Monday that we were going to sell out before the end of the week, especially since it's gone on sale to Season tickets today. I wanted to go with a group of mates for the game at Burnley, only two of us had two away stubs + more, so we didn't want to risk not getting one, so we got ours first thing. It's luck at the end of the day. I know two people who phoned up just before 9am this morning and they got the amount of tickets that they wanted.
  23. From what 1864roverite has said on the ticket details so far, that it looks like we'll sell out by the end of the week easily. I know quite a lot of season ticket holders who are wanting to buy tickets tomorrow, tomorrow will give us a better indication of whether we will sell out or not. I'm quietly confident.
  24. I voted for Garner. I can only remember, vaguely watching Simon Garner because I was very young. But based on his stats and the rapport with fans I voted for him.
