Seems we are back to Plan A on incomings if these rumours are true.

IF we played hard ball about getting one if not two Palace players in on loan they did not want to let out and on favourable terms, it would explain the near break down yesterday and Palace still not officially announcing Adam (unless I have missed something).

Could be heading towards all Rovers/Palace business being announced at once.

Meantime the dingles have raided Lowland League Albion Rovers for a 19 year old.

Whatever you do, make sure we don't headline Burnley sign 19 year old from Rovers.

  2. With no speculation intended on the Adam Wharton deal.

He lives with his parents, he has been with the club since the age of six, he is a fan, as are his family and his brother who also plays for the club. He is aged nineteen and has only played on a regular basis in senior football for about 1 year.

Suddenly he is thrust into the limelight and he knows only too well that the money coming into the club is pretty important at this moment in time. He is also faced with finding a home in London and will need to adjust to life in the capital.

I would imagine that caused an element of doubt in his own mind and also the mind of his parents, so perhaps they were unsure if this was the right thing to do and understandably perhaps stood back to reflect.

From what little I do know, his brother has the same agent and is trusted by the family, so a bit of hesitation all round was highly likely to be the issue and who can blame them.

Gutted as I am, all the very best to Adam, show the premier league and the world wide audience, what you can do.

I’d put good money right now that Adam Wharton will go further than David Dunn.

AW is raw and inconsistent but there’s elements of his game that are breathtaking. Like, much better than even just ‘Premier League’ standard.

There are moments in games where he gives me ‘peak’ Tugay vibes. No higher praise than that..imo Tugay would’ve been running City’s midfield if he were playing in this era.

    Agree 100%

Adam has become collateral damage in the circus that we have become. Just imagine a 19 year old kid being pressurised into leaving because of the mess we are in, a 19 year old local lad who loves the club and never, ever indicated he wanted to go.

I just don't believe we will see another Adam Wharton again and thanks to the idiots running this club we are being denied seeing him in a Rovers shirt for a bit longer.

I feel cheated by these charlatans once again.

I could honestly cry about this one, even though we saw it coming.

Pleased for Wharton, it was only a few months ago that it was suggested on here he shouldn't be playing as he stays up too late playing mario kart.

£22m would be hard to turn down, the reality is, we would have taken that pre-Venkys, and regardless of the league we're in (see Duff, Santa Cruz, Jones, Shearer even...everyone has a price). The main thing for me is that this needs a minimum 20% sell on clause otherwise it should have been a non-starter. Palace is clearly the stepping stone.

We now have £30m in the bank from Wharton, Raya sell-on and likely Gallagher, as well as high wages saved on Gallagher and Travis. It's now or never if Venkys really want to back the best manager they've had since taking over. Feels like we're suddenly on the board for the #1 pick in the NFL with a huge cap space. Golden chance for a re-build

I will not be holding my breath, that's for sure.

Maybe he will, but the certainty with which people say it is, quite frankly, insane.

He's very talented for his age, but still fails to make an impact for us consistently. Now he has to do that at a much higher level. The higher level might suit him. He may benefit from having more talented players around him, but it's still a big step.

We can sometimes have blinders on when viewing our own talent. That player x is definitely the best in a certain position in the league or the type of talent we haven't seen in years.

We're not long removed from serious debates of 'Dack or Grealish?'.

I wish him all the best, but there's a very good chance that he never comes close to the heights that many on here are expecting. A good Premier League career would still be incredible and a testament to his talent and our academy, but people talk about him as if he is a world-class talent.

We could go through a fairly long list of players of a similar age who are already proving themselves at a much higher level.

You are right, it is very easy to get overly excited, but form what I see, I really do believe he is the real deal.

Time will tell and obviously he is very young, but I would be very excited about his prospects, if I was a member of his family.

Playing Devil's advocate here but isn't that the job of the Academy? Find a diamond, polish them up and sell them on for a decent chunk of money. Sadly with the way the club is being run you and with the well documented financial issues this isn't a deal that the club can turn down.

Spot on, but I still have a tear in my eye right now.

I'm not sure this is the best timing for Wharton to leave (for us or for him) and I'm not sure it's the best move, but do wish him luck.

Some on here regard him a little too highly. It's a fair price, he's talented, but a lot of development ahead if he is to establish himself in the Premier League.

I have to admit, I rate him very highly and it that's too highly in some people eye's I will hold my hands up.

He is the real deal in my opinion and will shine for Palace.

My guess is he will be there no more than 2 full seasons and he will get a mega move.

If the Palace thing is right, as has been said on here, it’s a club signing, not the manager. The youth setup at Palace is famously solid and you only have to look at the trust they have in (relative) youth to see there’s a pathway for him. I think an opportunity to play in the Premier League and show what you can do, he either learns a lot and develops or quickly gets picked up by a team higher up the food chain.

We’ve been lucky in the past to have players like Dunny come through and stay (apart from a brief sojourn to the midlands) with us for the bulk of their careers, so this stings, but I think as JDT said last night, we should be proud of/hopeful for him that he has a good, long career and maybe comes home for the last little bit.

It is certainly gut wrenching, but we are in no state to retain such talent any longer.

I firmly believe he belongs on the big stage and we have to face facts, we are not going to be there any time soon.

I'm confused here. So you are saying that immediately upon Wharton's sale the sum of £11 million has to be siphoned off just to cover the "FFP deficit" without which we would be forced into further sales or a summer transfer embargo?

    How does that add up?

Why is it that this club seems to be under such a constant immediate pressing need to reduce costs, wages and significant player sales to stave off this threat when so few other Championship clubs face it?

Between 2017 and 2021 we had no major sales (other than the pitiful fee we got for David Raya) yet were never in breach of FFP, never placed under any restrictions. Fast forward a few years and despite still being a Championship club, despite having presumably a significantly lower wage bill (much smaller and younger squad) and despite a few sales and significant cost cuts last summer we now need £11 million to stave off the threat for the summer?

It just doesn't add up and i don't believe it.

Is the current 'model' really one that is FFP non-compliant and reliant on a sale of £10 million+ of players every couple of years to remain out of trouble?

Likewise if Wharton was to suffer injury or a move break down and we don't get a massive transfer fee I doubt it would make one iota of difference - we would not be placed under an embargo in the summer either way.

If the Wharton money is used 'towards' FFP then that surely means that the money the owners don't need to pump in to meet existing running costs can instead be pumped into recruitment and new signings?

Although it is being made out to be a formality, the court case may well not go in their favour. There is no way anyone can be certain, as let's face it, the authorities would simply say, no need to do this any more.

I guess we will know for sure on 12/03/2024 but my guess is, it will be blocked and a message will come out to dress it up in some way to make it look like everything is rosey.

Out of interest are you allowed to say what that is?

Yes, I work in financial services as a mortgage broker/ company director. We are regulated by the financial conduct authority and have very strict money laundering guidelines to follow, which involve an annual test and proof on every client file, that we have a trail for any funds.
