  1. Tuesday sees Huddersfield Town make the sideways step across the Pennines to Ewood Park. Although we found the term “divisional rival” strange when the Huddersfield fans used to frequently use it, arguably they have been our main “divisional rival” this year due to us occupying the same sort of position in the table throughout the year, firstly at the top, then mid-table, and now down the bottom. History Not as good as ours. Still impressive though. They were formed in 1908, and in that time have mostly played in the top two divisions, recently being promoted to the Championship after an 11 year absence. They were the first team to win the First Division three times in a row (which has since been replicated by Arsenal, Liverpool and United), which they did so in 1923/4, 1924/5 and 1925/6. They were also runners-up in the following two seasons. They’ve won the FA Cup on the one occasion, after a 1-0 victory against Preston in 1928. Incidentally, they knocked us out along the way that season, after a 1-1 draw at Ewood, we went back to their place and got pumped 5-0 in a third round replay. They also knocked out Burnley in the first round. We got revenge though as we beat them 3-1 in the final in 1928. They’ve also reached another 3 finals on top of those two, in 1920, 1930 and 1938, losing to Villa, Arsenal and Preston respectively. Our overall record against them is – Played 72, Won 29, Drew 23, Lost 20. And at Ewood it’s – Played 36, Won 17, Drew 12, Lost 7. Our last game against them at home was a 3-1 victory in the League Cup in 2005. Bellamy scored twice, Khizanishvili scored his first goal for us, and it was the game before our victory at Old Trafford that season. Manager Mark Robins, formerly manager of Rotheram, Barnsley and Coventry, became their manager on February 14 of this year following the sacking of Simon Grayson. Since his appointment, they've played 12, won 4, drawn 2 and lost 6. Players James Vaughn is apparently world-class according to everyone’s favourite Huddersfield fan. Although he’s only scored 9 goals in 29 league games for them this season. In fairness, in a great deal of those games he was probably stretchered off after 5 minutes. Apart from him, Jermaine Beckford can be a real handful on his day, their left back Dixon is solid, and also from what I’ve seen, the Northern Irish international, center-midfielder Oliver Norwood is a good player, as is a winger they have called Sean Scannell. Common links Jordan Rhodes used to play for them. Did enough there to command an 8 million pound transfer fee. Is he worth that much? Probably not, but he was to them, with his goals they probably would have finished mid-table, instead they could be going straight back down. Their former manager Simon Grayson also played for us. Anthony Pilkington was on our books as a youngster before later signing for them. Our third highest score in the Premier League (I think) Kevin Gallacher also had a brief stint there in 2002. Can’t find anyone else, maybe others can name some more. Another common link is their fans also hate Steve Kean, due to a perceived tapping-up approach made by him in the media when attempting to buy Rhodes. So fair play to them for that. Forgot I had agreed to write this and therefore haven’t had time to speak to any of their fans, so I've put this up now regardless as I imagine people are “anxious” to start discussing the game. Questions and answers from their fans will appear here in due course as I'm just sorting that out now. On the one hand, they’ll be fighting for their lives, although it's important to remember they are down the bottom for a reason. They have the worst goal difference in the league, -24, with a key reason for that being the 45 goals they have conceded on the road. Their away record in the Championship is played 21, won 7, drew 3, lost 11, scoring 22, conceding 45. However, anyone can truly beat anyone, especially in a 6 pointer such as this so things like this often go out the window. Victory at Wolves on Saturday proved they’re not going down without a fight. I’ll don’t really like the term “must-win game” apart from games when you literally have to win, such as the Wigan game at home last year, but this is definitely our most important match of the season in terms of trying to stay up. 2. RIP. Very sad news. My sincere condolences to his family.
  3. Has anyone played the new Assassin's Creed? I've never played one before as I don't play the Playstation too much, and when I do it's usually either Fifa or GTA, but the advert looked good and I've heard the previous 2 were good.
  4. I meant Ferguson was better than Arteta as well......although both Tugay and Arteta were much better in England......but my point was Ferguson keeping Tugay out of the Rangers side was justified. And Glasgow's one of the best cities in the world.
  5. He was a good player....the injury took it's toll.....but there was a reason we spent all that money, regardless of how it all turned out in the end. 2 seasons ago at Birmingham, he made more passes than anyone else in the league. Ferguson was better than Tugay at Rangers.....as well as Mikel Arteta.
  6. As ridiculous as it was I think QPR should have had a penalty for that foul on Hoilett.
  7. It's a strange one because the general feeling on here is Murphy hasn't really played well, whereas twice now on Soccer Saturday they've mentioned he has been running the show....he looked alright against Leicester but not as good as last year with Fulham....although obviously he had Dembele and Dempsey in front of him.
  8. And why has he looked faster for Dundee United.
  9. If you haven't noticed he dismisses anything and everything. For people have watched all or most of our games, does one of Etuhu or Murphy get more forward than the other in possession, or do they both just generally sit back?
  10. I've heard good things but I'm not into Sci-Fi....would you class it as that.....as in i'm not into stuff like Star Trek and the like, not necessarily any science-fiction programme.
  11. What does everyone think of the new season of Breaking Bad so far? South Park, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Arrested Development, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Californication, True Blood, American Horror Story, Entourage, Blackadder, Summer Heights High and Misfits are among my favourite shows.....I highly recommend all of them. Prison Break, Lost (Seasons 1 and 2 mainly, 3-5 is alright, 6 is awful), Heroes (Seasons 1 and 2), Futurama, American Dad, The Inbetweeners (Seasons 1 and 2), Trailer Park Boys (Early Seasons), Angry Boys, The Mighty Boosh, Peep Show, Nathan Barley and The Boondocks are good as well The Wire, The Sopranos, Treme, Spartucus, Friday Night Lights, Dexter, Oz, Rome, Mad Men, The Walking Dead and Underbelly have all been recommended....but I'm undecided on what to watch next.......I have seen quite a few episodes of Sopranos over the years but I feel not enough happens during an episode so you need to watch it back to back.....The Wire is the thing that I've heard the best things about......as for the others if anyone seriously recommends it then feel free to try and sell it to me, I'll watch the one that I hear the best things about.
  12. I know, they don't even have to be a great centre back, just cover.....we should loan a fringe player from the Prem if we aren't signing anyone....like when we used to send Zurab out to Reading or Newcastle or whoever.......maybe Aaron Hughes is willing to come on loan? Danny Wilson? Dedryck Boyata? Leon Barnett from Norwich? Liam Ridgewell or Gabriel Tamas from West Brom? I almost said Titus Bramble then, that's how desperate we have become...Matthew Kilgallon from Sunderland?
  13. Could look at it in different ways.....maybe Murphy thinks it would be a great place to start his managerial career......relatively decent squad, good youngsters......the fans will love him instantly because his name isn't Steve Kean.....and the owners won't sack him no matter how bad he does providing he's a good thinker. And I suspect it was Murphy just recommending Etuhu rather than Kean going round asking players.....although I imagine it's quite common for a manager or whoever to ask new signings about potential ones from their old clubs....well, I know I would do it.
  14. Some quotes from Fulham fans - Etuhu is good if you give him a simple job like Hodgson did. However, when we play football under Jol, it requires players to be more well rounded so it isn't suited to Etuhu. Etuhu can be good if he is used correctly. all i can picture is that 15 min cameo against norwich in which he took out about 5 of their players and stopped their attacks wave after wave.....to the chorus of "dickson your a c**t etc etc".....classic Etuhu He was integral to the Hodgson era and played exceptionally well within the required role. Block the centre, force the opposition wide, give the ball to the nearest colleague and act as a third centre back. Never appreciated by some supporters who wanted him to do more but that wasn't part of his instructions. He gets a lot of very unfair stick. I like having a player who other teams know not to mess with. Tottenham away at White Hart Lane in the 7th place season - Huddlestone and Etuhu are both running full speed towards a loose ball, both collide and Huddlestone must've been forced back 2 or 3 metres. A few minutes later, same 2 players are running for the ball, Huddlestone stops running and lets Etuhu get there first. I hope he stays, he is the only player in the squad with real muscle and can dig in against physical opposition. With so many lighter and skilful players we need someone like him who does the dirty work. I agree. There will be times when we need exactly this and we will miss the fact we don't have him in the side. I think we are a tad harsh on him. He has dominated games before for us and if he wants to stay, I would keep him as a tactical substitute and an occasional starter against some sides. It's actually a really sad day, I liked Dickson, they don't come much more hard working or honest on the pitch than he is. Maybe not the classiest of players, but thought he always did well at breaking up play (And sometimes, players) and distributing the ball to more creative influences, unless they were over 10 yards away! In the right system and against the right team he is very effective, particularly when we are defending deep. His passing isn't top drawer but that's why he was always paired with Murphy, but last season he wasn't playing much and wasn't very sharp when he came on. Most successful teams have a player of his type. Last stats I checked Etuhu had the 3rd highest pass complete percentage of all Fulham players last season (that was mid season but still a stat to note). He doesn't create, that's not revolutionary, but he doesn't give the ball away either. He was a bit of an enforcer, strong in the tackle and good in the air, also had lots of pace. Passing and creativity was not his strength but surely everybody knew that. Scored some good goals, who remembers that one against Man City. Hope this is just a rumour.
