  1. Just got back from the game.

For those blaming Gray for the second goal- get off it. Down to Zurab 100%. He panicked when he could have put it into row z or indeed anywhere else and instead hit it straight to Angel.

The only positive I took was that Peter at least must have proved he is better than Gamst. When Peter came on, Bentley went into centre mid (not too bad, by the way) and Peter stayed on the left. Problem was so did Gamst, and he sort of stood in between Gray and Peter. A mid-defender (aka waste of space) being his position. This left Lucas Neill rather lonely on the right, and he ran so far (even turning up as a centre forward at some points) that he's injured himself too.

Now I'm not saying that Gamst was the cause of the defeat (he wasn't), but he was absolutely boggingly awful today. I don't remember a touch where he didn't give the ball away. Peter is a better alternative. However I suspect that both will be playing next week, and that anyone turning up to Ewood early enough with their boots will also get a game.

Hey never mind, it's only Manure!!! (Oh god)

However, one funny (ish) thing did happen today. Sutton had the ball and Petrov was in space and clearly wanting the ball, and I ended up shouting "give the ball to Stan" before I realised that I was shouting for the wrong team!!!

  2. Newcastle took less than 200 to Palermo by all accounts. Our support away in Europe has been nothing short of fantastic so far.

After the West Ham game, only official travellers were allowed to go. All holiday flights to Palermo were stopped for the three days round the game. That will be the same for all away fans there.

    But we have been magnificent!!!

For those staying in Amsterdam: a nice, typical Dutch town to visit is Volendam, about 30 mins in bus.

    Tourist information:

    http://www.vvvvolendam.nl/index.php?id=637

On Friday 24 th their football team is playing at home in the Dutch second division!

Been there- seen them (we played in pre-season many years ago)

  3. However, human beings are not like taps. They can't just be turned on and off with cheaper tickets/more expensive tickets. The cost is only one of a number of reasons why fans aren't coming back. It's good to see another reason (illegal pub broadcasts) also being tackled.

We'd all love Ewood to be full and for the atmosphere that brings to come back but if that is to ever happen more than once or twice a season then it will take a long, long time and a lot of work. The club can't do much more and deserve backing but some of the people on here who expect people to come flooding back overnight are living on cloud cuckoo land. If it was that easy we would all be able to manage a football club!

So you've just admitted that cheap tickets don't work

  4. MGP was exactly as he has been all season. Weak, poor and clueless. It was a bloody good job he was breathed upon and went down for the penalty or he certainly (given the earlier efforts) wouldn't have scored.

There was one particular point in the first half when he wandered quite aimlessly over and stood looking at Bentley (who had the ball) and then just as aimlessly wandered back over without doing anything which remotely resembled trying to become involved. If I didn't know better I'd think he was permanently stoned. He has that glaikit look on his face which suggests that he's looking at the ball and saying "pretty ball- must watch pretty ball"

Tugay is god. Brad walks on water. Mikey Gray isn't half as bad as people on here are suggesting.

    I miss Bert (Now there's a phrase I never thought I'd say)

  5. It's £15 in total for tickets to Basel and Nancy- ie £7.50 each for season ticket holders, therefore we'd expect a captive audience of around 13,000. £15 for ANY game involving a premier league club is a bargain. I paid £28 for each of my three Celtic home Champions League matches and thought that was a bargain.

As for saying £15 is reasonable for a group stage game in the UEFA cup, I actually despair. What planet do people who say that live on? We're in Europe. These nights are supposed to be prestigious and the whole reason for us to try to do well. If they're not good enough for some Rovers fans- they should go and support Accy Stanley in the Johnston's paint trophy Northern Section or whatever it's called. For £15 that's what they should be getting.

  6. We've already seen that the fickle fans will turn up for the cheap tickets but not recognise what the club's done for them and continue to whine when they're charged normal prices. (and not turn up) All recognise that the club cannot afford to unilaterally charge low prices, so I'm not really sure what the benefit to the club is?? ( and it's definitely NOT increased revenue)

  7. even allowing for the fact that they've no jobs/ responsibilities, i'd like to think they'd learn!

They won't. They were VERY embarrassing!!! The chant of "you only pick on away fans" was a bit wide of the mark, given they've banned 2 of their own for persistent standing. Those who were standing in the home end will, I suspect, be the recipients of nasty letters quite soon.

I was sitting in front of Tugay's mates and some WAG type girls, who, when told to "get your t*ts out for the lads" responded with "get your a*se out for the gays!" Which is a witty retort to such a bunch of neanderthals.

  8. We could be Champions of Europe and West Ham could be battling relegation in the Conference ... and they'd still beat us at Upton Park.

Playing in Europe is starting to take its toll though ... suspect Hughes had an eye to the Basel game and with a few regulars out, we lacked the cutting edge.

Peter tried hard on the left but lacked the quality of an in-form Gamst .. which we don't have at the moment either.

How many of you were actually THERE???? From the tosh on here, not many.

We weren't good, we weren't bad. Gray was no worse than a lot of the others. ALL of the good passing came from us. Sergio Peter is MILES better than Gamst. By the end we hadn't a formation, we were just battering them. I was a little concerned that I'd been dreaming throughout the game, but the stats show we were the more attacking team (again).

This was a game we hadn't a HOPE of winning. ALL of the odds were stacked against us. Hey ho- on to the next one.

  9. I thought he had a calf injury now, not the hamstring?

63% still isn't good enough for a player that we'd sign with a view to being a player in our starting line up, even if he plays 7/10 games we still have to find a player who can start 30% of our games, which means we'd have to sign another good player, meaning this transfer would be pointless.

Yes, but we're losing Savage for a game now, and will no doubt be losing him for 2 more soon, so why is that any different?

  10. honestly, when we were bottom of the league under souness, did anyone think we'd be up here so quickly?

the thing is...we seem to be getting better and better. wait till reid and nelsen get back in the new year.

As soon as he'd gone- yes I knew we'd be better very quickly. Always thought we'd have been better with a manager hungry for success rather than one increasing his pension.

Just back from Krakow. For all those on here, it really was a game of two halves. We at the goal-scoring end saw very little of the game in either half. In the first half we dominated and they scored, and in the second, they dominated and we scored twice. The difference was, their domination ended at the midpoint of our half while ours was in and around the box.

For Savage's goal it seemed like slow motion as it came towards us. (we were diagonally behind the goal). Bentley's goal was a "for F*cks sake SOMEONE score" effort with at least Roberts and Nonda having a go before Bentley got the ball in the net.

Fully agree about Gamst. It seems to be only people on here who mention Gamst and Duff in anything like the same breath. Everyone I spoke to out there when asked the question "duff or Gamst" said "Duff's different class". Gamst is having a horrible patch and it would be kindness to Lucas who, to be fair is having to do the same type of covering for him that he used to do for Emerton on the other side, to let Peter have a go.

And as for Tugs........... His first 90 minutes of the season and afterwards he came out with headphones on and DANCED around the ground while warming down.

As for Wisla- niggly, and diving spring to mind.

  11. Yet again you will end up crying in your scoth broth.

Scotland are doing 'ok' for the time being.

They will soon self implode when they realise they might well have a chance of qualifying for a international tournement.

England will plunder on, and qualify without even trying.

I will be the first to laugh when it happens AGAIN. :P

The only reply to that is:

France (second in Fifa September world rankings)

Macedonia(51st in September FIFA world rankings) !!!!!!

I don't think any of us expect to qualify from a group with BOTH of the world cup finalists and one of the quarter finalists (2nd 5th and 13th in FIFA world rankings for September). So your laugh will be a wee bit hollow. However I think we would expect to beat Macedonia at home and to qualify as winners from your group easily if we play like we did yesterday.

  12. only been about 3 days or so but still no anwer on the greatest fans on earth from the green goddess

Not knowing the context, I decided not to comment. However if your behaviour towards me is anything to go by, the brick and spitting was probably deserved (or was it a brick in the head that made you as you are??).

What I DO have, however, is the memo that was sent out to the Celtic fans from the president of UEFA to thank them for being such great fans at the UEFA cup final. So would I believe him, or you............... let me see.
