  1. Overrated. Just finishing up Pompeii by Robert Harris. I like his stuff a lot, but it's usually slow to get going. This one is a good read from the start. At the part of the eruption now and it's interesting. As always, he does a good job of mixing history with fiction.
  2. The Hurt one I saw on YouTube and was going to post. I really still feel dirty almost a week after watching it. I don't know why it disturbed me so much.
  3. I do like the Bourne movies on their own, but using the names of the books is a bit deceitful. The books are far superior and would have made great movies (they did a TV miniseries of the first one in the late 80s which I vaguely remember being good). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094791/
  4. Who from England would you pick over Anelka? I could only see Owen and Rooney. If you watched the France match Saturday, he was by far their most dangerous player.
  5. I love the deleted scenes from Life of Brian. "'All of these men will live in infamy. Like that guy. And him."'
  6. Matchstick men was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. He was good in the first half, but over the top at the end.
  7. Yes, but offers more going forwards. I think one reason he gives away said silly fouls is that he has to expend more energy to get back, and isn't in the perfect position. Mokoena would be perfect in a diamond midfield.
  8. On an older version, I had a couple of players who were withdrawn from the pre-WC friendlies, which caused them to be removed from the squad for the WC.
  9. Actually, one of Savage's biggest strengths in the team has been to track back and help out the defense. He just covers more ground to do it.
  10. If you have sons and daughters, you haven't left it the way you found it!!
  11. I've suggested it before and will suggest it again: Read Michael Crichton's State of Fear. Not only does he talk about global warming and alternative views, but he also talks about how when many scientists go into a study with an outcome in mind, that outcome tends to happen. There have been cases where scientists have been given the same studies to conduct with different expected outcomes and the different expected outcomes were concluded in the studies. First it was "Everything is going to get hotter and melt." Now that this hasn't happened, it's "There is going to be a deep freeze." Global warming scientists have been wrong well over 50% of the time in their studies, so they keep changing the rationales. My favorite was reading about the scientist who predicted something like 26 hurricanes hitting major landfalls in the carribean/atlantic area last year and kept revising his prediction down as the hurricane season went on until he wasn't far off from the 6 or so that actually did. Is there stuff we can do to make this earth a better place? Sure. Mrs American and I recycle, we don't own a car (mostly because we live in the city) and other stuff (we'd even buy a Prius when we do get a car if I only fit in it). I've read both sides of the debate, why haven't you, Colin? You're the one always accusing certain posters of not having an open mind, you're just as bad.
  12. What a joke defense (the second part). Most of the scientists who say the opposite get their funding from Greenpeace and other organizations who have a point to prove as well.
  13. Probably my biggest disappointment with Hughes in the transfer market was not signing Pongolle when he was practically begging for us to and could have been had on the cheap.
  14. Was discussing Days of Thunder with a co-worker. He was saying it was a great movie. I think it's a crappy movie - one of the worst ever - but I have to watch it every time it comes on, because it is damn entertaining.
  15. I'm one who thinks we paid too much for him. I also think that IF he shows the potential he can, he will be exactly what our midfield needs. I don't think people don't want him to succeed, I think we've seen too much wasted potential to get excited again, knowing there is a good chance we'll get let down again. And Jan, get over it - Souness has achieved European qualification twice, including the cup. If what he inherited was so great, why were we floundering before hiring him? Either they were poorly managed, or they weren't great at the time (or a combo).
  16. The only live Rovers game I've ever seen. Getting chills just reading the re-cap.
  17. V never happened, they only made 4 before the latest one. III was the best. "Come on over to my place and I'll show you a real man!"
  18. He's supposed to be a bloody professional. He should be getting himself in shape, no matter what the training is. It's a total joke that he wasn't in game shape, much less that he was a couple of weeks away. I've said before that Dunn is what we have been missing in the midfield - someone willing to take on players and create space for his teammates, but he really has to get his mindset together and become the player he should be - not just relying on his talent alone.
  19. The more I think about it, the more annoyed I am that we pay money for the guy and he isn't even anywhere near the shape he needs to be to play. He had to know he was likely going to move somewhere (and likely to us) and should have gotten himself in at least enough shape that he could have played today. Very unprofessional and I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
  20. You would think that if Tugay was going to get it that would have happened by now.
  21. You also missed that they re-financed the debt about 6 months ago, so as most of your postings, your figures are wrong.
  22. You really have been spouting some crud lately. When did he turn down a transfer that would have allowed us a larger fee? Hughes felt he needed him for the past 3 months, so he chose for him to stay here, not Lucas. If anything, he should be applauded for giving the notice he did and giving the opportunity for us to get more money for him 6 months ago. It's not like he kept saying he might sign. (Not to mention that if we believe Brownie, we made one take it or leave it offer that was below his market value.)
  23. By solid I mean not superstars, but 5-10 goals a season players.
