  1. If you never did like wrestling then you won't know how incredible of a job that Rourke did. I wasn't watching him, I was watching a washed up wrestler try to salvage some sort of a life. Yes, very depressing, but that easily could have been the Ultimate Warrior in the role.

I thought Frank Langella was really good as Nixon, but I also knew I was watching Frank Langella play Nixon.

  2. What would inevitably happen (as I've explained on numerous occasions on this thread) is that the harder stuff would go legal drip by drip and then the taxpayer would end up paying the bill for the hopeless addicts who use the stuff and are too incapable to work to pay for it . I for one am sick to death of paying for the self inflicted failings of others and don't want to see the streets further littered with dossers . The line has to be drawn and it makes no sense to keep re-drawing it just to cater for those who think the lowest common denominator is the ideal level for society to fall to .

Read an article a month or 2 back (not sure if the link was from here or not) about how one of the Scandinavian countries has made heroin available from clinics. They were talking about how people are now able to get their daily fix and still hold a job. They've also shown that less people are taking it now, due to the stigma attached with going to the clinics.

I still don't see where what you are talking about as "inevitable" isn't already happening now.

  3. Saw Slumdog Millionaire today - really well done, I thought the kid that played the brother as a young child was brilliant. You could really see what he was going to become.

Frost/Nixon - one of the, if not the, best movie of the year. Really well acted, really well paced. Only complaint would be that they had to make it one person winning, one person losing. Towards the end of Nixon's life, he wasn't necessarily loved, but he was respected a lot more than they made it sound.

  4. Pride and Glory - I'd rate it a B, well acted and well made, but nothing that sets it apart from others of its like.

The Wrestler - I'd rate it an A. You aren't watching Mickey Rourke act, you are watching Randy "Ram" Robinson, washed up wrestler. Added bonus is Marisa Tomei topless. It was actually a tough movie to watch because of the way it was acted and directed - almost like it was a documentary and all that was happening was happening in real life with no movie effects. If Rourke doesn't win the Oscar for this, it will be a travesty - one of the top, if not the top, performances I've ever seen.

  5. Got NHL 09 as a pre xmas present for myself and I'm having so much fun with it. The various gamer sites keep mentioning this as the best sports game this year and I totally understand why. The be a pro mode is just so well done and so much fun, you keep wanting to play one more game. I'm not even a hockey fan and I don't know much about the sport but even without any sort of knowledge about it you get so sucked in.

It looks great, plays great and is presented really well. Check it out!

Have '08 and I love it. Have done about 5 drafts so far in the GM mode.

Also just got Tiger Woods '09 for the PS2 and am a little disappointed. The last version I had was for the PC and had a much better character creator and MUCH better career mode. Still enjoying the season mode and have been playing the game non-stop for 2 days, but it just isn't as good as the PC version.

  6. One of the big differences between the UK and the US. In the US, 150 miles is still considered local.

I have noticed over here that there seems to be less preservatives used in food. I haven't found my eating being any less (except maybe smaller restaurant portions), but I still lost about 10 pounds in 2 months. I think a lot of it is less "crap" being used in the processing of the food I'm eating.

  7. Not sure if this is available outside of the US, but there is an offer for 9 free eBooks. Even the software to read them is free. I'm assuming the only "catch" is them trying to get you to realise that eBooks are just as easy to read as regular books. They will ask for your credit card, but the books are free. (I haven't downloaded any yet, but read about this on cNet and there were many comments from people who had downloaded them and agreed that there was no scam.)
