  1. Update on Dino? (From Wikipedia):

In February 2008 it was announced that Dino Baggio decided to come back from retirement and join the Terza Categoria team Tombolo—a team near his hometown, which is being coached by Dino's very first coach, Cesare Crivellaro.

  2. Which just underlines how good Hughes was compared to Souness. He had less money and he didn't inherit some genii like Duff and Jansen.

Am I right in thinking that Souness' last game in charge was the 3-0 defeat to Arsenal? In which case, the first team that Hughes inherited was:

Starting:Friedel, Neill, Short, Gray, Gresko, Emerton, Tugay, Johansson, Matteo, Dickov, Stead

Bench: Enckelman, Amoruso, Flitcroft, De Pedro, Yorke

Duff had one good season not playing for Souness, Jansen has had none (for different reasons). Dunn hasn't been the same since Souness stole 5 million from the Big Club for him. Everyone says he was lucky inheriting them. Ask BFS how "lucky" he was getting Duff and Bruce how "lucky" he was to get Dunn.

To be fair, they were both really good managers for us. Sparky just had better timing in leaving.

Edit: For those that look at Yorke and DePedro and laugh, ask Jim/John and LeChuck, respectively, what they thought of the players before they stunk up the joint.

  3. Then good luck finding a decent manager to replace him when he finally does leave a year or so from now once we get the reputation of "holding back careers."

If they want him, they will come in with a decent offer which we will accept. I doubt they will want him though, and the "domino effect (did I use that right T4E?)" will involve clubs that won't want him either.

  4. Agree with you on Martin, who bought when he was 17 (?). He impressed, and gets offered occasional first team chances.

And as for Pedersen, agree wholeheartedly! But thats a different issue entirely!

But is it? Why not play Treacy as a sub, as he can't do any worse? And if he does do worse, then you know in the summer to go find another left midfielder for cover.

I can see both sides of the argument, but I sincerely hope that when the benches are expanded to 7, the extra slots are used for youth players who can be thrown on at the end of a 2 or more goal match.

  5. Of course I do. However, I would choose a better job even if it pays less (within reason, of course).

As a multi-millionaire professional footballer he had the opportunity to go to a club where he had a higher (though not brilliant) chance of medals. I can't put myself in his situation so I can't know for sure, but I'd like to think I'd've chosen Liverpool.

I think Lucas sabotaged his last chance at performing at the very top level and competing for the biggest prizes in the game. IMO he was stupid for doing this. I can, however, understand why he did it. As I said before, he may well not give a ###### when he hangs up his boots, and just enjoy the money he has accrewed. No problem with that either, it's his life.

Which choice do you think you would have made?

The funny thing is that people say that Bentley shouldn't go to Liverpool or one of the other big 4 because he'll just sit on the bench. Liverpool worked out really well for Bellers, as well.

(Oh, and if your quote is from the series premiere, he says "..... or candy." Because he doesn't realize there are a bunch of kids listening to him. - Just re-watched the episode the other day.)

    (Edit is for a misspelling.)

  6. I waited that long for a decent poker site to bring out a non-java Mac client that I'd given up looking.

However I've recently found out that Full Tilt Poker is now fully OS X compatible (and has been for a while apparently).

Just making anyone who was in the same boat as me aware of this fact.

It certainly passes Friday nights like this when I'm stuck in with nothing but a crate of beers.

    Thanks!

  7. Abramovich has spent less on/with Chelsea than the Glazers (adding up purchase price and player costs), and he also has some prime London land. Chelsea will not implode if he leaves.

People don't recognize that buying up all of the talent for a London club on the fringes of the big time was the same as paying that much for a club with a larger profile. Chelsea is now a huge brand worldwide.

As for United, weren't they already supposed to have gone under with the loans by now? Looking at the capital appreciation, the Glazers would make a tidy profit if they were to sell tomorrow. They haven't even started to touch on the internet earnings potential of the club, as well.

  8. I would actually say that MacLaren was good at Boro - look at them now. He just wasn't cut out for the pressures of the national team. It's a far different animal than managing a club day to day.

    (Quick fingers)

That being said, I think that most times with a smaller club, managers have a shelf life. You're trying to get the most out of the least talent, and I'm sure it wears on the manager and the players. Managers of larger clubs tend to be successful longer because they can bring in more players and have about 3 choices for each position, so don't mind if one of the choices fails.

  9. For me the only way you can judge a manager,is to look at where the club is when he starts, and where the club is when he finishes.Undoubtedly Souey was one of our best managers of the modern era,he left us in a better position than he found us,won the league cup and also treated us to a very nice derby double over our 6 fingered neighbours.

Anybody who seriously loves Rovers shouldn`t really slate the guy.He joined us at exactly the right time, and he also left at exactly the right time.

Probably left about 6 months too late, but other than that, it's hard to argue with this post.
