I like to think I'm being objective not negative. I take my blue and white glasses off when I watch us play. There's no point in trying to fool yourself.
I agree. I am just so relieved we got that promotion. There were so many games I saw, where were were unconvincing for large parts. Many others have said the same thing. I know what I saw!
I don't think I felt that about any of my five previous Rovers promotion sides, although we did win ugly a good few times during Kendall's promotion.
For me, it is a bit of a paradox in that last year's team showed moments of genuine "poetry"to brighten up passages of turgid prose..
That said, I admit I also see games-or moments in games-through blue and white glasses. I don't think I will ever got over that one!

No, no, no. You were saying we will struggle badly next season because we played poorly in most games last season. That was what people took issue with. You never mentioned winning ugly initially.
My post..exact words..
"He does have a point. Strip away the heady final days of what turned out to be a successful season. So many "ordinary" performances were saved by one or two moments of shear class. I would imagine a stroll through the match threads on this very site would find many expressing a similar view."
Where do I even mention next season, let alone that we will struggle badly? We haven't even completed our business-at least, I hope not!?
My post was very obviously-if you bother to check- a response to the instant dismissal of another poster's analysis of last season?
You seem intent on ticking both keyboard warrior and straw man boxes at the same time.
No, no no indeed! ?

He looks in great shape, so well done to him on that. Be great if he hits the ground running with an early goal
Have you checked yet?

Not every game can be that of a wonderful performance. I don't care how we gain points, as long as they are gained within the laws of the game.
Obviously. No-one should expect that. I was merely supporting another poster's contention that in many game the fare was poor.
Great to be able to win ugly, but that was not the point at issue.

We need improvements yes.
But your assessment of last season? ??

Don't think I said it had. Doesn't change anything though - we need more quality, the sooner the better, and it costs. Trying to do it on the cheap is a very dangerous game.
Think we need to realise that we can't just have a repeat of last summer. Last summer for a modest sum of about £1 million we were able to recruit a top quality League one side. This time round we need better players which cost more and we're in a League with clubs who can spend more, so a million on 5-6 decent League One players might not be sufficient.
It's a bit like a phony war.
We really won't know what to think until it is too late to do anything about it.
I can't remember the name of that cardboard "director", who said "Don't judge us till September?"
They really can't waste the opportunity to build on all the momentum and good will, can they??

Venkys destroyed the existing management structure years ago and we have been winging it ever since.
These sorts of announcements aren't as exciting as transfer news but they are just as significant, if not more so.
All elements of the club have to pull together if we are to get anywhere
Agreed, 47er.
I know I am slightly off message, but I can only wonder( still fuming after all these years- with apologies to P.S..) why the hell they left it to wither on the vine for so long.
Our lovely old house is ransacked and ruined, but I see the new garden shed is coming along nicely. Glad to see there are plans to fix the roof, as well.

so how about the finance and governance of the club ?
After last night's meeting, my wife presented me with a lovely picture of a large wooden room, containing an elephant.
When I tried to thank her, she said, "Don't mention it!"

Hopefully it is the same as what does a Greek shipping magnate want from a Championship club and what does a Thai bloke who made a fortune in canned tuna want with a Championship club.

I don't anyone feels they 'are entitled' to know... but I can understand why people feel they 'need to know'. Many people think the club has been run poorly in the past and can evidence this with the numerous management structures that have been in place under Venkys. I don't think its a lot following this to ask for reassurances on how the club is run now. Clearly people have this feeling and a decent PR company would advise transparency after years of chaos followed by one year of success. Theres an opportunity to explain how things have changed.
Well said. I think it is perverse to define a will to be vigilant, as entitlement.

Why do you feel you need/are entitled to know?
Safe structure, properly run, decision making, as near to the action as possible....towards safe hands?

"as opposed to" ie that's what we usually do. I have no idea whether that will be the case this time round or not.
But, if it is, it represents a step backwards given that 2 lists were drawn up weeks ago and TM has said he wants the transfer business done early.
Can't quite follow why I'm being criticised for supporting the management's aims and intentions. I agree with him---don't you?
"If you can't bring good news, then don't bring any.."?

I am currently working with a playwright, who wishes to write a drama about the tribulations of a Rovers fan after 2010. More of this, hopefully, later in the summer.
I am currently helping with the brochure and we need one final picture to go with the rest.
I would like to borrow a picture of supporters/families with the trophy in 1995. It will be returned within a day or so.
I am confident there will be no safeguarding issues, if it is a picture with children, as all the '95 children will be adults by now.
The idea is for this picture to represent both the fact that Rovers were title winners and the idea of the club, as an important community asset.
If you can help, please PM me and we can take it from there.
Thanks...LV
Thursday deadline.
