  1. Bloody hell, all this talk of Duff being finished on a thread where the general trend is one of how superb Dunn has been since he came home is pretty naive and ironic. Duff has been off the boil for less time than Dunny was for God's sake! Bellamy, I highlight your post, not to support my first point, but only because I was under the impression that Mourinho reluctantly let Duff go because he was no longer happy at being unable to hold down a regular starting place? Same as Robben. If MGP were to leave, I'd advocate bringing Duff back. EDIT: argh, somebody just reminded me of Duff's disgraceful badge kissing in front of the Rovers fans and his insulting celebrations at the final whistle. I'd probably still bring him back though, just because he was such a good player.
  2. I'm interested in buying a Wii. The console on it's own isn't too expensive but when you add on about £50 just for another controller and nunchuck, the price escalates pretty quick. Anybody know where Wii's are being sold a bit cheaper than the usual places or where the controllers etc are being sold cheap?
  3. Hughes has done it again with yet another steal. Dunn is fast becoming my favourite Rovers player to watch. I'm on such a high supporting Rovers right now.
  4. That was my first time sat in the BBE in my time following Rovers and I have to say that I thought the drummer definitely aided in creating a good atmosphere. I joined in with all the common footballing songs that were sung but, while I know the important lines of our more traditional songs, I don't know enough to feel comfortable joining in as I might otherwise. I reckon this is probably the case for a fair few who haven't really sat in the BBE before. Perhaps some kind chap could PM me the full lyrics to No Nay Never, We'll Keep The Blue Flag Flying High and the other more traditional Rovers songs. Also, I was sat quite close to somebody who had a fair dislike for McCarthy for no real reason it seemed, other than the colour of his skin... That was a shame.
  5. Domenech's response at the end is very strange.
  6. On what basis?! What have you ever seen of Zurab to suggest that he can operate as a defensive midfielder? I'd much rather take the risk on a defender getting injured than limit our options elsewhere. That substitute position would be used far more often by a player adept at playing in midfield than one playing in defence. For now, I don't believe that Zurab is up to the job of central midfield, and to have him on the bench would limit our attacking options as we'd still need Mokoena there to shut up shop when we were in the lead.
  7. I'd much rather have Mokoena on the bench, because it benefits us tactically. I've never seen Zurab play in midfield before, and I presume he is only up to the job of playing in defence. Tactics often dictate a change to the centre of midfield, especially when you are leading in a game and need to protect the back four. That is what Mokoena does. If an injury in defence does occur, then Mokoena captained his national side at centre back and he would feel comfortable playing there.
  8. Have to say I agree with Rev. This reminds me a lot of the Bellamy situation. We know there is a clause and the club are trying desperately to entice the player to sign before the end of the season, when they can leave on the cheap. Mind you, I doubt any top four club will want to take McCarthy, even if he does score 18 goals next season, and if McCarthy is stupid enough to join them, then so be it. If one of Derbyshire of Rigters comes good next season, we should be in good shape.
  9. £500k could be the best Premiership transfer deal since Anelka went for £24 million, or whatever it was. Such unbelieveably good business. I remember being unimpressed with Bentley after his first season with us and wondering whether he was worth buying. That was probably one of the worst cases of me misjudging a players ability, embarrassing really. I really hope that we can keep Mark Hughes and John Williams together for as long as possible. This is one of the best run clubs in England.
  10. And before Souness was appointed, I swear he had a great season under Sir Bobby. I love my mates, but they really annoy me over Bellamy. I say that Bellamy is top class and one of the very best strikers in the Premiership. They respond that he had half a good season with us, when he was class, and otherwise never really showed that much and isn't a top quality player. At Newcastle he played some superb football, and continued to show his ability at Celtic. However, a combination of injury and his own character held him back. If Sir Bobby and Bellamy were still at Newcastle, I'd bet on them still challanging for Champions League and Bellamy banging in the goals.
  11. Second best game ever, after it's sequel, Sensible World of Soccer.
  12. The Rigters deal suddenly makes a lot of sense. I knew that we wouldn't have a forward line consisting of McCarthy, Roberts, Derbyshire, Rigters and another new signing. I wonder if McCarthy spoke to Hughes in the past few days and this forced him into making a move. In reality, Bellamy is a far better player than McCarthy, but because he didn't set the world alight at Anfield and because he has suffered from injury problems in the past, Liverpool could well be willing to let him go, giving us Bellamy and a big load of cash for McCarthy. Saying that, there has been nothing in teh press to link him with Liverpool and I fully expect Chelsea to make a move soon.
  13. Amoruso looked a great guy and I loved just how much he looked like a porn star! On the footballing side, he was very good at bringing the ball out of defence and he was a real asset in the opposition box on corners. However, he was far too slow for the pace of the Premiership these days and was found out for it. They don't have the same pace and quality in Scotland accross the league. He also looked very shakey heading defensively and I always thought that he was going to make a mistake at some point.
  14. Just had another look at the video on youtube... I remember the goals as if they were scored yesterday and I even remember the fan zone guys too! Cole and Boa Morte's goals were superb, especially Boa Morte's. I think that result could have been very different if it weren't for Mark Crossley - He was at fault for three of our goals there.
  15. Yeah sorry for dragging the topic away from football and into something completely irrelivant! Cheers Fife.
  16. I was about to say "no I didn't say that," but thought I should check back just to make sure. I apologise, I did. I didn't actually mean to write it in that way. It wasn't something I was proud of doing, but then I'm sure Henry wasn't proud of feigning injury in the world cup. My point was that everybody makes mistakes, does things some people might not consider the "right" thing to do - nobody is perfect. Personally, I'm just shocked that anybody would make a judgement on a person, especially me - I've always thought that I've conducted myself well on this messageboard and given a good reflection of my character. Anybody who knows me would say just how far off some people's presumptions about my character are. My second statement is certainly the way it happened. My first statement was designed to make an impact and to put my point accross. He was a fool for playing poker for money without knowing the rules. Tris, I wasn't trying to fleece somebody at Poker, that wasn't my intention. Like I say, I put my original statement accross in a manner to put my point accross. It was a very competitive game and I just didn't want to lose. In these games, you are expected to know the rules and it is actually very frustrating when you have to slow the game down to explain them. On reflection, I don't think I would do the same. As for the boxing comparison; well we both know how far incomparable those two circumstances are. My arguing this point on a football related topic and diggning my whole deeper just shows what exception I take to people questioning my character.
  17. I've argued my point. And I thought I was soft... Judging me as a person on the basis of one act in a game of cards is pathetic. Luckily, I don't have to prove myself to anybody because I know the person I am, as does anybody that actually knows me. If you judge me differently, then you should take a look at your own character. Fortunately, I don't judge people in the ways the people on here appear to... Anyway, that's my final piece. Back to the football.
  18. This isn't like somebody dropping a £10er and me picking it up, or somebody paying me too much money for something I've sold on ebay and me not telling them. This was a competitive game where either I would lose my money or he would. I'm pretty certain the rules don't state that you are obliged to tell your opponent that they have lost the hand. If they don't call it, then they don't win it. This guy put money into a table and was expected to know the rules. He didn't. I didn't take that money from him, he lost it. Therefore, I wouldn't even say I cheated - I just kept quiet. I doubt many would do differently. Just so that everybody knows, he would only have lost the £5 he put in, not his life's earnings! And, for the record, if somebody did that to me, I would not be aggrieved in the slightest - it would have been my own fault. Not in the way of dropping a £10 note by complete accident, but in a way you know that you are likely to lose your money and that you should therefore know what you are getting into. I never would take somebody's money if they dropped it, but even if I did, that wouldn't make me a bad person. I suppose it would depend on circumstances - if I were absolutely broke then you could understand - but even if I wasn't and I picked it up, it wouldn't make me a bad person. How can you judge a person on the basis of one act, unless of course that act was something truly horrific. I wouldn't presume that I am a bad person either LeChuck and USA, because I am not, and you are in no position to judge whether I am. I might have kept quiet in a competitive game of poker and taken a few quid from somebody, but I am extremely generous with my money, my time, my efforts - everything.
  19. Oh come on now USA you cannot be implying that I am a bad person because of that?! That really did make me laugh. It's not his fault that he's new to the game or that he didn't notice. Likewise, I can't be blamed if an opponent decides to play the game for money without practising or knowing the rules! If I can keep hold of my money, I'm going to! Oh and by the way, I wouldn't play poker any time soon, I don't think you'd quite be ruthless enough somehow!
  20. I cheated at Poker the other week against a newbie. I show my flush draw and go to take the chips. The newbie accross me only has a higher flush. However, he didn't realise that and I sure as hell wasn't going to tell him, especially when money was involved. That doesn't make me a bad person! I'm one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Sometimes we won't do the "right" thing, but nobody is perfect. You cannot compare Henry, whose only major offense was playacting disgracefully for France ONCE, with Ronaldo who cheats his way through every game. All players dive at times, and Henry isn't really any worse than the majority of the Premiership's footballers. Henry does a lot for charity and strikes me as a really good bloke. I am disapointed that he broke his promise that he would never leave Arsenal for Barcelona - if I were an Arsenal fan I might even be angry - but he isn't a bad person because of this. What a load of rubbish! You say that Henry is not a "good bloke" when there are disgusting little @#/?s like Joey Barton in the league?...

Just happened to stroll accross this thread... LOL @ that Wolverine!
  22. First of all, yes I would rather have Bent spearhead our attack next season in preference to Benni. (Admittedly that has something to do with his desire to leave the club, but that isn't really relevant in this argument, so I will put those feelings to one side for a moment.) Bent has age on his side and, I would argue, has not reached his peak level of performance. He is incredible in the air, has a lot of pace to burn and a great work rate too. None of which McCarthy really has in adundance, especially when it comes to work rate. McCarthy on the other hand has peaked in terms of performance and will only go downhill from here. His value will also start to plummet as he reaches his 30's. Now would be the best time to cash in (remember, I am only going by your hypothetical scenario here.) Citing goals scored as a reason you would prefer Benni is a little short sighted. Benni scored a lot of goals for us this season, some in extremely important games, some being spectacular. There is no doubt that he has had a great season, and his goals have been vital. But Bent, in his first season in the Premiership, scored 37 goals in 44 appearances compared with Benni's 24 goals in 50 appearances. I would argue that Blackburn this season were far better than Charlton were last season. I'll admit, Benni has scored throughout his career, but if we are to judge on first seasons in the Premiership, then Bent surpassed Benni. Bent actually managed to score 15 goals in 35 appearances this season for a team that was ultimately relegated. That is a very good return IMO. I would suggest that your "goals scored" argument is very much flawed. OK, so money. Rovers can ask whatever they want for McCarthy, but that doesn't mean that that is his true value. He is only worth £30 million if he moves for £30 million, which he will not. The only reason Chelsea are interested is because they view him as a cheaper option. If that weren't the case, then why not go for Berbatov, Eto'o or Torres? It is clear that even the league champions don't meet your valuation of McCarthy. West Ham appear to think of McCarthy as a lesser player than Bent as well, seeing as he is obviously their second choice. I would argue that, as he is also a second choice, they would also not be prepared to spend anything like £17 million on him. Everything suggests that his market value is less than £15 million. Point me to a club that you think would splash £20 + million on him? I bet you can't. I will bet you a 10er (I am a student afterall) that, if Benni leaves, it will not be for more than £15 million. As for Berbatov, we all know who is the superior player their. berbatov is one of the Premierships very best. The one thing that we do agree on is that Rovers will get their asking price, or keep their man. However, seeing as £12 million would represent a 400% profit on what we originally paid, I think the asking price will be considerably less than what you believe. As for Mido, he might well flop spectacularly at Fulham, but I will always have Hughes to hide behind. He spent much of the summer desperately trying to get Mido to the club. He was willing to spend £4.5 million on him. I still think that Mido is a good player. If you look at my recent post on the summer transfer window thread, however, you will see that he is way down on my wish list.
  23. All this talk of £15 - £30 million for McCarthy is absolutely nuts. He's had one good season in the premiership and, at 29, has definitley reached his peak level of performance. He was hot and cold at times last season and is not in the same class as Bellamy. I think £12 million would be the absolute maximum that any club would pay. Likewise, however, I cannot see him leaving for less than that sum. If we were in a situation whereby we could buy Bellamy with the money received for McCarthy, then the only reason I would be cautious is the uncertainty over Bellamy's fitness. His constant casual talks to the press about his future is really annoying me now. Once is fair enough, let the others out there know that he would be open to the move. But if you're going to do it three or four times in the space of a month or two, then there is no subtlety and he may as well demand a move. I know many have their doubts and criticisms over Mido, but he and Bellamy would be a great paternership next season. If we sold McCarthy, I reckon we could probably just about afford both.
  24. Heard a bit of Ryan Adams yesterday and was very impressed, although it was off his Rock 'n' Roll album, so I'm not sure what his lighter acoustic stuff is like.
