  1. And each time this happens there will be fresh outrage. Jim White is one of the most remarkable case and points I have ever seen; he stands in front of a deadline day clock, reinvented to count down the hours until a club over 100 years old goes out of business, literally tearing the community apart. Then the next day he sits on his radio station defending it, claiming he has done more than any other to highlight the plight of the club. Well, I'm sorry Mr White but it simply isn't enough. Much like his brief cameo in our situation regarding poor ownership it's all too little, too late. Discussing the plight of a community over a 2 hour talk show, in which you charge fans for the privilege of phoning in, doesn't begin to break the surface, particularly when next week you will be back to discussing the mega-transfer of Alexis Sanchez or Neymar etc. Next week it will be "business as usual" in the Sky, BBC, EFL, PL, TalkSport, BT HQs. Bury will be a sad reminder of the past, when football was a man in the street sport and success wasn't determined by the bank balance of a clubs owner. MPs will today call for regulation, for a degree of responsibility to be taken by the EFL for the plight of two fine, historical clubs. Then next week they'll be back discussing other issues, and rightly so because football isn't everything, and the rallying calls for reform will be swept away by another claw-for-votes cry for more money to the NHS or the like. Nobody will pick these issues up again in a week because everybody is so engrossed in the glitz and the glamour of the Premier League/European elite. When we are in a situation where Alexis Sanchez's wage over the past 2 years is enough to save Bury/Bolton then we are sadly past the point of no return. Much like society the gap between the haves and have-nots is increasing at an alarming rate. Yet, much like society, our reliance on private business and foreign investment has also left us without a community anchorage; when back in the day you either attended the game or watch no football children would fall in love with their local team, now they can watch City on tele once a fortnight minimum. Whereas before we'd have local people running clubs, with the interest of the club at heart and the accountability of the local community in mind, we now have distant foreign investment, with no consideration for the people. What was once a game for the local working man is now a battle of egos between the super rich, or an addition to a portfolio to brag about in their yacht parties, or, in the saddest of cases, a business in which losses can be offset or assets can be stripped to make a quick quid. Modern football is dying. In a weird way I have a slight envy for Bury - they will reform, and they will do well due to the backing they will have, and for a brief few years they'll escape the monotony of the football league. However the only thing that awaits them is a return to the depths of the football league, where smaller town clubs wait to feed from the scraps of the elite. Then, though, much like AFC Wimbledon, at least the club will be theirs. The best thing that could possibly happen to English football is the break away from the PL that will inevitably happen. We are better off without the bastard system that has led to this point.
  2. 1 in 3 then, my mistake. The point remains that your criticism of Danny Graham is rightly laughed at but the fact you are now giving Bell some sort of accolade shows one of two things: you are either on the wind up or what you know about the sport you can write on the back of a stamp. Probably both.
  3. If I saw Jerome Anderson on the streets sat in front of an empty cup I'd piss in it before giving him a penny. He's a hawk, the very worst of the worst. With any luck the current problems he's facing last 10 years and knocks millions of his value too. Maybe Jim White can get him on and let him have a little cry again? Baby.
  4. You are on the wind up surely. Spend topic after topic slamming our 1 in 2 striker but come out with comments like that. Outrageous.
  5. Many people who I say this to call me a conspiracy nut but it is firmly my belief that the EFL, FA and EPL have a national plan to turn English football to a sport almost akin to American Football, in that there will be a few massive clubs as opposed to the 92 currently. These clubs will be city based and to hell with the towns that pioneered the game. I have it on very, very good authority that the EPL have an enormous budget in place to bankroll any of their big clubs should they go bust. It almost gives them the invincibility large banks have when it comes to reckless behaviour. Should we be talking about Man Utd or Liverpool right now there'd have been a bail out of sorts, with the leagues doing all they can to keep the gates open. As it stands founding members of the football league are treat with disdain. To hell with the all three of the organisations.
  6. You've almost become a parody of yourself Much preferred it when all you shared was your abysmal betting record
  7. I'd disagree after 6 games. Around about October time you get a better picture as of the layout of the league, with a few exceptions where bad/good form strikes or managerial changes (Villa, Brentford) If we lose to Cardiff and Baggies I certainly wouldn't be considering us relegation candidates.
  8. Is it? I swear Norwich were towards the bottom end of the table this time last year. Far too early for those kind of calls
  9. Exactly what Williams used to be like at left back. Some of the joys of playing centre half is you can see all of the game. It improved Lenihan no end, looks to have improved Williams so it's definitely not out of the realms of possibility that it can improve Nyambe. He'll need to work on his heading though.
  10. Williams literally won us the game last night. Scored and made two goal saving interceptions. His finest performance in a Rovers shirt. Tosin must wonder if he'll get back in if he keeps this up. His only saving grace is that he can play defensive midfield, and Baggies fans have said his best games came in that position.
  11. Drop Bennett. Solved. However, you must say that is now out of the question. Imagine dropping your captain, replacing him and then dropping the replacement. Bennett is our RB and that’s that.
  12. Can’t believe I’m typing this but..... Man of the Match = Derrick Williams
  13. I wouldn’t say I want him sacked, evidenced by the acknowledgment of what’s come after is frightening. Loaning out Mulgrew without replacement is an appalling decision imo, as his treatment of younger players in the press. However his work in the background goes a long way in my eyes and whilst I don’t necessarily agree with everything he does I’m much more content with him in charge than I would be if we had another hunt for a new manager. This club is run like a joke. We have had a shocking window and I don’t know whether that’s down to the board, lack of, or Mowbray. What I won’t do though is blame every single thing on TM and spend every day demeaning any bit of positive work he has done for the club. If Mowbray got sacked it would be with a heavy heart I’d see him go. It would only be a good decision if there was a manager of promotion ilk lined up. Although I do admit that my opinion of Mowbray was far higher in May than it is now but, then again, what I know about football pales in comparison to him so I may once again eat my words about it being a bad window and him getting it right.
  14. I had my fingers burnt with my calls for it in League 1 Matty. At that point I was still reeling from the relegation and in truth obnoxiously thought we should have walked that league. Since then though Mowbrays work behind the scenes has become apparent and no one can deny we aren't a better run club thanks to him. Look I don't think Mowbray is infallible. I think he gets it wrong sometimes, I think he's over estimated the strength of the defenders and I think he's far too critical of our younger players. He has a lot of negative points but it's getting actually boring now reading the same posters go after any single shred of positivity to come out of the club and try and tear it apart. The "suspicion" of the Johnson promotion (didn't someone actually dare to suggest Mowbray did it because he was scared if DJ carried on he'd take his job???) was the last straw. Any time there's a criticism aimed at him that's disproven it's ignored for a few weeks and then it rears its head again when time suits. Likewise, whenever there's anything good that comes from him it's either put down as luck or him benefiting from others' work. He can do no right. I don't think this forum should be a place where he's not allowed to be criticised but I know for a fact I'm not the only poster that's sick and tired of the echo chamber. It's shown in that topics which are typically "anti-Mowbray" are always hot topics and topics which show Mowbray in another way are completely avoided by said posters.
  15. No he isn't. Doncaster is his second job and he hasn't lost a game with them yet. He did exactly the same as most expected WBA to do and was still on track to get them into the play offs. Just because roversfan99 has posted something that agrees with you doesn't mean it's set in stone. Plenty of other posters agree with BDS in saying otherwise. As for roversfan99's opinion of the baggies fans I actually live in the area and it was overwhelmingly the opposite - most believed Moore should have stayed after they appointed Shan. The only reason it was kind of forgotten about was because ultimately they knew they could attract a far more established manager eventually.
  16. I could go back to 5 or 6 topics in which a comment that highlights a positive effect Mowbray has had on the club and name you the exact posters that have jumped on it straight away with an attempt to either skew the figures or put an "alternative" (and almost always hyperbolic) view on it. However which way you wrap it up it goes above and beyond wanting Rovers to succeed now; this board has become a place in which views have become so polarised it is almost as if in some eyes Mowbray, or the club, can do no right. In fact, I'm going to put my neck on the line and say even when certain myths get dispelled they are largely ignored purely because there are some that have a dislike of Mowbray. The biggest case and point is that over 50 pages of the transfer thread was spent discussing how terrible Mowbray is in the window because he hasn't invested in the defence, whereas Miller11's topic which showed a look at expenditure in our defence dating back to the Venky takeover got 23 replies only. And out of all those posters that spent page after page smashing TM for it only 1 replied (Stuart) in which even then he criticised Mowbray for being complicit and said the buck stops with him, almost as if the outside influence of our owners is irrelevant. As a second point we had over 10+ pages of criticism for Mowbray's signing of older players (Downing/Johnson) then, when AAK I think it was, posted statistics to show we are still the youngest squad in the league, even after the signings, not once did it get acknowledged by said posters and instead the point got muted for a few weeks until it was brought back up again. It's incessant. Yet, for whatever reason, as soon as this is brought up by posters that acknowledge the context surrounding Rovers right now we are told that "this place is somewhere to voice an opinion" and that posters don't have an underlying dislike of Mowbray but are instead incredibly "passionate" about the success of Rovers, despite their constant refusal to acknowledge anything good or credible the club does but are the first to spend pages telling us why they think they are so damn terrible (ST prices, transfers, in-house promotions etc etc etc etc)
  17. Where has this idea that Darren Moore is a failure come from? He was sacked whilst WBA were in 3rd and 98% of baggies fans were gobsmacked by the decision.
  18. Hahahaha oh don't worry, your attitude towards Mowbray was never in question. I'm just glad you've finally dropped this guise of "we all like him and want him to succeed but......." The simple fact of the matter is whenever someone posts a positive about Mowbray, it's immediately jumped on by a band of posters you are firmly in the centre of; whenever something negative is posted it is a cardinal sin for someone to challenge that viewpoint. If ambition = sacking a manager after 3 games into a new season then I'm glad your opinion stretches as far as this board
  19. Most of them u23 players came through the academy with Billy Barr in charge. Why on earth would they be very disappointed to be reunited with a coach they know so well? Who did you expect to come and take over, a huge name? Johnson did extremely well with the u23s and got a role with the first team. Barr did the same with the u18s and has now been promoted in line. I’m all for it, guys that know the club are seeing themselves rise up and other aspiring coaches will take note that not only have we got an inspiring academy we also appreciate and reward the hard work done by the coaches. Being suspicious of Johnson being promoted is just pathetic and desperate. In your absolute undeniable quest to criticise the club and it’s staff you’re making yourself look like a bit of a conspiracy nut. Johnson won’t want to work with u23s forever and he’s obviously more than happy to have taken the PROMOTION. Well done Johnson, Barr and Sheron for their great work with our kids and hopefully the time is starting to come for them to break through and shine
  20. Hull have 2 of the better wingers in this division. With Cunningham seeming like a good left back, I'd hope Mowbray recognises the need for a defensive minded player and gives Nyambe the nod at RB without the need to bomb forward. Won't happen though with Captain Fantastic. I like Elliot Bennett as a guy and think he genuinely cares for this club and the fans but I don't rate him as a right back. We don't win games on twitter but by having quality players in the right positions. With that in mind, my team: Walton Nyambe Lenihan Williams Cunningham Travis Johnson Gallagher Dack Rothwell Graham Subs: Leutwiler, Tosin, Bennett, Armstrong, Brereton, Downing, Evans Then again we are on tele so expect a dreadful performance
  21. The only reason we got called bully boys was because we got in their faces, closed down and had players who weren't afraid to get stuck in. A lot of our players could learn a thing or two from Andy Todd, The Axe, Neill, Reid and the like. There wasn't a player who wouldn't get involved should the time call for it. I didn't mind that tag being associated with us and frankly Wenger and co were only annoyed that a club like us had found a way to compete with them. The press could say what they wanted, we knew what we were watching and if they didn't want to give us credit then so be it. I actually think we thrived off that kind of siege mentality.
  22. Ha ha ha ha ha. Yet in the Mowbray Out topic when a poster gave examples of why he thought Mowbray was a good manager you considered him as being too kind. An awful lot of posters spend their days waiting for any sort of good comment about TM to be posted to very quickly try and pour cold water on it. Phillipl's post was a good one and accurate too, regardless of whether "that's always been the way". A good performance and peoples post count goes down 75%; a loss and all of a sudden these topics become echo chambers of how much of a clueless guy our manager is
  23. 100%. I want the days of teams fearing to play us back again. Sadly I think modern football has evolved past that style of play ever reemerging.
  24. Of course I do but by 10 mins into the 2nd half the pace dies down considerably in comparison to professional football.
  25. Big difference between playing at that level and having 16 year olds being lumped about by professional players in League 1 though.
