  1. An injury list with more snapped hamstrings than Hendrix has snapped guitar strings, achilles problems and snapped tendons suggests he's not the most athletic player in the industry.
  2. In fairness 47er we have signed young hungry players. Rothwell, Davenport and Armstrong all fit the bill. It also sounds like Brereton will be coming too and he definitely fits that bill. I don't think that anything has "gone wrong" as such but I do think Mowbray has misunderstood the market a little. His repeated claims of "x amount of players by x time" has lead to a feeling of failure. Had we had no expectation of what to expect I'd assume most would consider this window a success. Lesson learnt I hope for Waggot/Mowbray. I can't justify the Rodwell signing much. It doesn't stink of desperation but moreover an odd decision based solely on sentiment alone. His CV does look impressive on paper but the reality often differs greatly. The only real gripe I have is the under valuing of wide players. We desperately need width and, after the signings of the two defensive types + possibly Brereton, that leaves us with 1 more signing to complete "Tony's 4". If that final signing is Rodwell then it would seem from the outside like a strange error. We may struggle for goals this season which is probably a signal of Mowbray's intent. Consolidation and continue to build next year seems the order of the day- that will suit me.
  3. This doesn't surprise me. We need some bite in defence desperately. Oh for an Andy Todd now - he'd be sent off 5 times a season in modern day football but he'd be a joy to watch him put the fear of god into some of these flair players and, on top of that, bite Evans head off every time he pulls out of a 50-50.
  4. Why are we "giving a chance" to a late 20s injury prone player that has been part of one of the worst Sunderland teams in a generation? Why aren't we "giving a chance" to our own? I can't be the only one here who would rather see Travis in the middle as opposed to Rodwell. Surely we have better central midfielders that we can "give a chance"? Probably the first signing of the summer that I'd be unhappy about. I honestly wish Rodwell the best and I hope he can recapture the form he had at Everton here but whenever I look at him I see a walking crutch and a player shot of all confidence. I'd much rather a young lad with no fear in our midfield to be 'given a chance'. We supposedly have a decent budget so the cheapness of the deal shouldn't be a reason for it. The only justification I have is that Rodwell has nothing else to lose. This is the last chance saloon for him. If he's on a pay as you play and he comes in and trains for the next 3 months before appearing as and when it's not the end of the world. A good body to have in - experienced English lad. Definitely uninspiring in terms of first team additions though. This should mean Whittingham is moved on too
  5. Coming back from 2-0 down gives you an untold amount of confidence as a player. I wouldn't be surprised to see us turning Brentford over the weekend. Nutall looked ok when he came on. That header was a good chance and had me out of my seat for half a second. Rothwell is some player. His passing is incisive and he always seems to put the right weight on the ball. Can see him being a good partner to Evans/Smallwood. I was disappointed with our defence for both goals. It's been a perpetual disappointment for me our defence for the past 5 years. Every time I think we've got a good back 4 here we tend to concede really soft goals. I thought with Bell in there vs Hull we looked a lot more solid than usual - then tonight I was left shaking my head. It's a real tough position to be in because for all my doubts about the solidity of it I couldn't find it within myself to drop either Lenihan or Mulgrew. Nyambe didn't put much wrong and although Bell was a bit wasteful in possession at times today he didn't either. Yet, at the full time whistle, I found myself blaming the defence for us being 2-0 down. It's a recurring theme. I understand that when a defender makes a mistake it usually leads to a goal, a talking point, whereas attackers get away with it a lot more but the fact of the matter is we have for a long time now made too many mistakes at the back. It needs sorting. Other than that gripe (which has been coming for a while, not based solely on tonights performance) I was quite happy with the way we played. A little bit flat but so were they. 2-2 seemed a fair enough result.
  6. Jack Rodwell was an average player when he was at his 'peak'. He coincided with a few decent Everton season in terms of using youth and ruined his career by moving to City in their progression years. The truth is if he was good enough he'd have kept a place in the City squad - instead they squandered 15+ million on him. I bet they couldnt believe their luck when, a few years later and less than a handful appearances, they got near enough £10m from Sunderland. Which probably goes to show why they have ended up how they have. I'm sure there was an alarming stat knocking about that whenever Rodwell played Sunderland tended to lose. He had his contract cancelled at a club like Sunderland because, quite simply, his career as a footballer is done. Miracles can happen. Mowbray may make a footballer of him. The chances are he'd be better off going to the FA and getting his coaching badges. I only hope he doesn't want to become a fitness coach because he hasn't been fit since 2010.
  7. Even so. It's well known in the physio world that injuries to one part of the body can increase potential risks to other parts of the body also. The human body naturally compensates. Sadly, a lot of injury ridden athletes begin by picking up recurring injuries in similar locations (ie: right leg, ankle through to hip) and eventually due to the natural compensation begin to pick up injuries elsewhere too. I am in no way saying his shoulder injury is linked to that btw. Could just be a weird push or pull he's made.Just saying from a physio view Harry Chapman is an incredibly big risk. For such a young lad to have such a long list of injuries is worrying. We are not yet at the days of sports science where we can predict where the next injury is coming from. We aren't far off but by no means developed enough to be taking risks on such players. Finally, though, the human body does have the ability to surprise. Chapman could go the rest of his career without an injury and we may rue a missed opportunity (if we don't take the punt anyway). I wouldn't bet on that outcome though.
  8. It's a shame about Chapman's injury problems as he's an exciting player. However he's had that many injuries over the past 2 years that I'd avoid him completely. Every injury leaves fresh scar tissue - this leaves him more prone to injury. You might be able to get a good season out of him soon but unfortunately I can't see the lads career being anything but blighted by recurring injuries. Players like Sturridge can attest to that. He needs a year or so out of football. Serious physiotherapy working on strengthening the leg muscles. In this day and age though you'd probably struggle to find a club willing to give him that and pay him for it.
  9. I don't know much about this Brereton but the consensus seems to be the same: great strength, bullish attitude but a lack of acceleration and overall speed. The ability to act as a pivot in any team relies firstly on your passing ability. I don't know if anyone knows about Brereton but if he can pass then he'll probably be worth the fee, if he can't then I'd suspect there are better hold up players than him. Strikers that can hold the ball up and pick a pass out are few and far between these days. As seen with DG they can make other players around them look superb (Dack/Armstrong). By the comments of those that have seen him (and not just Youtube videos) you can see him turning into a Graham type player which is why I think he'd be a good fit here. Personally I want him. I trust Mowbray though. Should he decide Forest want more than his worth I won't complain, likewise if he decides he's worth £8m I won't complain either. At the end of the day I want a player that is going to improve this team and bring us a step closer to the Premier League. £1m, £7m, £10m - whatever.
  10. You expected him by the end of the week roughly 3 weeks ago. ?
  11. I suppose so. I never thought it would make much of a difference really as I'd always assumed these lot drank from the same watering hole. You'd have to imagine that if we were in for a player today, and no media outlet knew about it, that a large circle of the football bods would. Agent talks to club - knows another club is interested so alerts them - they alert another agent of another player they are after that someone else is available and so goes the merry go round.
  12. I see what you are getting at. I thought you meant it may hinder our chances of signing a player as it attracts rivals. You'd have to imagine a football club talks to 30-40 players (or at least their agents/clubs) a window to determine availability before making their move. We'd be bitterly disappointed if we heard about every enquiry we'd have made this summer. My gripe is probably more due to the fact that the media has to have something to write up. We are served up a fresh number wanted or fresh set of positions we are looking to fill on a weekly basis and it almost always has turned out to be a load of shite.
  13. The football world is a small world and if club x are in for a player than it won't take long for club y to find out, particularly if they have an interest in said player. I'm with JHRover on this. I'd be happy with this transfer window if we didn't keep getting told a figure of players we want in and when by and constantly let down. Bored of hearing we are "in for 4", "have talks with 3", "want so and so over the line by..", "looking for a centre back, forward, winger", "wants a striker, centre mid, goalkeeper" etc etc etc.
  14. Sometimes I think you just agree on things based on what you believe is going to happen. At one point you were saying Armstrong is the striker we need. No other option needed. Now we have him you'd honestly prefer it if we spent circa £8m on another striker when you could have Maddison out wide? I know which one I'd prefer. 20+ goals spanning across 3 seasons + double figures assists for 2.5m or a 19 year old lad who has all the potential in the world but hasn't scored 10 goals yet for £8m. Sorry and within that question you'd rather have Brereton than a defender like Baeur + Maddison despite championing the need for Beaur all summer. My God It's a no brainer.
  15. Brereton's goal scoring record for England youth is far better than his for Nottingham. Some players are better around better players. I'd like him. I wouldn't like spending £5m+ on him though. Unless, of course, parts of that fee are for achievement, ie goals scored, promotion etc etc
  16. Williams wasn't good enough for the majority of last season. Some will claim he never had any "glaring errors" a la Mulgrew at Fleetwood but the fact of the matter is wingers get a run on him all too often. If he is a centre back then we should sign a proper left back and relegate him to backing up Mulgrew & Lenihan. The match was a poor one really. I'm quite happy to know there's Davenport + Armstrong to add to that squad otherwise you're scratching your head where more creativity comes from once Dack is withdrawn. Our subs were poor. It's worrying that, unless more business is done in the next week, we'd be down to Nuttall/Samuel as back up up front and, should Palmer & Bennett get injured we'd be left with Samuel as a winger too. He isn't comfortable there, clearly. I only hope he improves in that position as the season goes on. I will take the point. Win the games at home, ensure you take at least a point on the road and you're in for a successful season. Does feel like 2 points dropped though. A sickening goal to concede!
  17. WHat was alarming was the differences ipswichs subs made in comparison to ours. Further highlights our lack of depth. We looked a far worse side after changes made.
  18. Armstrong is a good signing, no doubt about it. He made runs that allowed Dack and Graham to play their way. It was a great trio at the back end of last season. I hope he didn't take our budget as I think Armstrong is a more off the striker type player than someone leading the line. Nontheless happy he's ours. Good player, young Northern lad and the potential for big money if he scores a bit
  19. Makes you wonder whether Mowbray was playing the game a bit I'll celebrate when he signs on the dotted line and it's announced. Until then nothing is certain in this game
  20. It was tongue in cheek but I didn't expect you to get that with your Must-Defend-BRFC v.15 power shield on.
  21. Mine came a long time ago so I'm not overly fussed. I can understand the frustration of not being delivered something that you have paid for though. Kind of like Armstrong. If we have spent this £3m like it's claimed...why isn't he a Rovers player yet ??
  22. Villa bidding 10m plus 10m add ons for Yerry Mina makes a mockery of them being skint. FFP is a lie
