  2. I keep hearing tales of Sweden being England’s bogey team. While I agree we don't seem to have beaten them too often recently, the record looks pretty even to me?? Last 10 results (friendlies included) Sweden 4-2 England (2012 friendly) Sweden 2-3 England (Euro 2012) England 1-0 Sweden (2011 friendly) Sweden 2-2 England (World Cup 2006) Sweden 1-0 England (2004 friendly) England 1-1 Sweden (World Cup 2002) England 1-1 Sweden (2001 friendly) England 0-0 Sweden (Euro 2000 qualifier) Sweden 2-1 England (Euro 2000 qualifier) England 3-3 Sweden (1995 friendly) A single-goal victory or penalties beckons, I think, and it can go either way .

  6. As (bad) luck would have it I'm in England for a wedding this weekend just when Rovers head north of the border, Tony. If this weather keeps up it will be glorious in Edinburgh though - enjoy!!
  7. Aye, the Jags fans will be on the rampage Tony . Joking aside you'll be lucky if that fixture attracts more than 3,000. Difficult to predict how attractive a Rovers visit to the east of the city is likely to be but I doubt you'll be talking about a five figure gate. The Edinburgh cops will get more trouble from the stag and hen parties on Rose Street.
  8. I agree with this. Mulgrew is actually very good in the air.
  9. Went to see The Vapors last night in a tiny venue called The Bungalow in Paisley. An excellent live band. They are most famous for Turning Japanese in 1980 and their lead guitarist, Ed Bazalgette, has directed Poldark, Casualty, Doctor Who and Eastenders in his time. First saw them supporting The Jam at KGH in 1979, they were fabulous then and still are now. Well worth catching a show if they are playing anywhere near you!

  13. I have a mate who shares this view. I can see the logic in it but can't agree with it. There would be far too many lucky penalties for me, plus you would get players deliberately trying to hit the arm of the defender rather than find a team mate. Any ref worth his or her salt should get most of the intentionality calls right.
  14. Couldn't agree more
  15. Or Phil McCracken ha ha
  16. You have a bloody cheek pulling someone up for holding a 'lazy, simplistic view' (see below). And as it happens the poster was proved to be totally correct, Panama were rubbish.
  17. I used to work in Glasgow with two chaps called Ben Doon and Phil McCafferty.
  18. Ocean Colour Scene - Jane Got Excavated
  19. Did you not see the penalty that Australia got yesterday? Never a penalty in a million years I'm afraid. A ball hitting someone's arm is not an automatic penalty. There has to be intent to handle the ball, so how you can intentionally commit hand ball when you have your back to it is beyond me. There were also the two (arguably three) penalties that England should have had which the VAR officials contrived to deem not fouls. And the blatant push by the Swiss player while scoring the goal against Brazil that was not disallowed by VAR. So yeah, I think there is 'bad use' of VAR.
  20. Very good use of VAR in this game - a Brazil penalty overturned because of a Neymar dive.
  21. Stranger things have happened - I still have a sneaky feeling the Argies will qualify somehow. Mind you, I predicted a lot of goals in this Brazil game, so what do I know?
  22. Just the 600 for Lancs to win then? We haven't scored that in our first six matches have we, let alone in one innings!?
