  1. Lancashire going very well again, Somerset 150 for 7 in reply to Lancs' 493 for 9 dec. A quirky stat from the game - which only came to my attention because the Somerset keeper was boldly predicting that they couldn't be bowled out twice so I checked to see whether he was still batting - is that the wicket keeper on each side is called Davies and they got each other out in the first innings.
  2. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Crawling Back to You
  3. Really enjoyed this series. Thought some of the scenes in the last 10 minutes were slightly far fetched (e.g. the car chase) but I think it will scoop an award or two. The lad who played 'Dot' Cottan was especially good I thought. I've never seen anyone sip water with such menace and arrogance.
  4. Gracie Fields - The Lambert Walk. Apologies, The Lambeth Walk.
  5. Paul Weller - That Dangerous Age (The middle aged updating of The Jam's When You're Young)
  6. The Small Faces - Son of a Baker. Hard to believe it is 25 years since we lost Steve Marriott
  7. The Style Council - All Gone Away A biting piece of social commentary on Thatcher's Britain, disguised in a twee melody.
  8. Down In the Tube Station at Midnight - The Jam A 20 year old kid writing lyrics that a 40 year old Ray Davies would have been proud of.
