  1. The positive brigade can parade it all they want, but if we go out into Ipswich with this squad then we are weaker than we were in league 1. Luckily, very lucky, we have a gaffer who csn organise a team and a team that like the manager, that should see is through to safety, but it will be a crappy season.

I bet Nuttall is buzzing after such high praise from the gaffer. First a match winning goal and now this. Stop!

One thing is for sure, if that bugger is guna be second string to graham, and graham gets injured, ill be watching darwen. Nuttall isn't worthy of even being a football league player, never mind championshio, hes absolute garbage.

Pitman has scored in all leagues and are a reliable honest player. Would go for him as he would score in the Championship! Eaves had a very good season for Gills but may be unproven and Bradshaw is a profilic striker.

Calling Bradshaw prolific is way off. Hes scored 17 goals in 80 games in the championship. Around 65 goals in 240 games in the football league, with nearly 40 in league one. Prolific he is not, and certainly not at championship level. Pitman way too unfit for championship football. Eaves was an okay player in league one. All three players i would hope we wouldn't even consider. However probably the kind of player we will sign.

    Good, because you shouldn’t...!

Fair point, it's just usually by now we have an idea of who we are looking for in terms of calibre and how that would fit in to how we would play, but I am just hearing cheap inexperienced loans. Hopefully that is not the case.

Our first fixture is 04/08 - 19 days away. Any signing we bring in now will realistically only have about two weeks to bed in and a limited pre-season. By this time last season we'd already signed Whittingham, Dack, Smallwood &, Gladwin. The rest of July saw Samuel & Caddis come in.

In August we signed Leutwiler, Chapman, Antonsson, Harper, Hart and Downing.

So far this summer we've only signed Rothwell and Davenport. No players sold as of yet, but realistically we're going to need a stronger squad if we want to compete at the higher end of the table. Imo it's more likely we'll be fighting it out with the likes of Burton, Bolton, Ipswich, Rotherham, etc at the bottom end of the league.

I Hope we aren't fighting it out with Burton, they are in league one, pal.

  6. Peterborough chairman said the following just now, could it be us?

"The disappointing news today is Gwion has asked for a move & didn't want to come on pre season tour due to Championship club who want to buy him. A fee has been agreed with them & has permission to speak to them. Myself and Manager gutted, did our best to talk him round but - He is adamant about wanting to leave & play in the championship as has been obvious for last couple weeks. He is a great lad but made things clear about this & left me/the club with no choice but to do best deal we can with 10 months left on his contract. Sorry Posh fans. "

I keep seeing this  'we are a League One squad' being banded about. We were way too good for League One; that's why we amassed nearly 100 points.  Chapman (who I want) barely started and then didn't feature for months. Antonsson was generally poor but had a purple patch of goalscoring before long-term injury and losing his place. Armstrong (who took over from Antonsson) made a heck of a difference before his form tailed off at the end of the season (I would like to add him though).  There's plenty of time to get the Chapman and Armstrong deals signed and I have absolutely no doubt that we will add quality via loans.  Regardless, the squad, the attitude and everything Blackburn Rovers is in much better shape than when we were relegated.  I see any additions as pushing us towards the play offs, rather than just keeping us out of the relegation places.

Fair point. I think back to 16/17 and think that squad was poor and wasn't good enough, think that's why a few of us are thinking negatively, but I suppose after Mowbray took over, the last 14 games, if we'd have had that form all season, we would have finished 9th, so that bad season, was very much down to a poor manager in Coyle.

Also I think some of us, myself included had the little bit of excitement (blind probably, but nevertheless) that with momentum and some good additions, we could maybe have a real good season, but the lack of signings I think has put a dampner on that.

  8. stating the obvious but:

    17/18

attacking options - chapman, Whittingham, Payne, Gladwin, Dack, Bennett, Conway, Graham, Antonson, Samuel, Nuttall, Armstrong

    18/19

attacking options - Whittingham, Gladwin, Bennett, Conway, Graham, Samuel, Rothwell, Davenport

Have we really improved on a league 1 squad? Undoubtedly no surely?

Some vast improvement is needed in the transfer market and quickly.

Defence wise, the back four bar Downing has been samey for the past two seasons, and we've conceded 105 goals in 92 games (of which 46 games were against some dire opposition in league 1) - therefore does the back 4 need improving, or is a more settled Lenihan sufficient?

Maybe it's not us, although it has been reported that 2 championship clubs have met his release clause of £2.5M - Us and West Brom? The bookies clearly don't think it is us.

Thought his release clause was just over £1million. In that case it won't be us, cannot see us spending that on one player. If we did I think it would be onto loan signings then.
