Good memory, I didn't think too hard about our loans back when we were a Premier League team. To this day I have no clue how Danny Simpson became a title winning RB.

What about Championship loans? Todd Kane, Doniel Henry, Jack Bryne. Certainly no Eyal Berkovic.

We did do well enough in League 1, so perhaps I should have a little extra faith in TM.

Ha, yeh sorry, meant to put 'played' - he retired 8 years ago did Nonda

I just can't find myself getting too excited about young PL loans for a season.

Just racking my brain and how many players have we ever signed on loan (and NOT signed permanently) that have gone on to promising careers?

(Cariney, King, Rudy obvs don't count as they were made permanent, and players like Marcus Babbel etc were already established - even Santa Cruz and Bentley were garbage when they came back!)

I came up with Michael Keane... Any others?

Nonda has done okay, now at Galatasaray, plays European football regularly etc.

Danny Simpson gone on to win the Premier League.

Jermaine Jones you could say carried on playing a a good level in germany and in a world cup.

Mame Diouf, carried on playing in Premier League, but now in Championship.

Michael Keane,  done regrettably well EDIT Sorry you said Keane

  3. Makes me laugh, bet all the posters who are 'positive' about England, were part of the vast majority that jumped on the 'worst team weve ever had' bandwagon. Now we have got to a quarter their all over it, but yet people who have criticised even when the team has won are all fools. One extreme to the other with this country, lowest of the lowest confidence straight upto the we are going to win it, within 3 games won (one scraped, one againsta primary school team and one on a pennys) its disaster to euphoria. And thats allowed, but realists are negative and have spoken out of term and are idiots.

  4. Asked one of chaps from city academy about davenport said this:

Yes struggled to find form after a fairly long injury just over a year ago but finally started to show some really good form after work with Pep and carried it on to playing under Clough at Burton - Blackburn have got themselves a great young midfielder

Spoke with a mate who works in the media there, Bauer and Chapman are Mowbrays two main targets at the moment that he knows of. Apparently bids are in for both.

If that is the case I would guess our budget is around £3-4 million, for transfer and loan fees with wages on top. With Rothwell probs being around £250k, Chapman would be around £1mil (with just a year on contract) and Bauer probs looking at £1.2mil. All guesses obviously, but that would be nearly £2.5mil on permanent signings, then could see us bringing in a couple of loans and maybe another permanent towards end of window when clubs are wanting to get rid.

I'm a bit dumbfounded at some of these comments to be honest, England supporters in general need a reality check about how good we really are, especially at the moment.

I like Southgate, he's flushed out a lot of ageing bigheads and put a young, exciting team together that have a good attitude and team spirit - if they aren't good enough to beat Colombia then so be it, I would just like to see us go out fighting and playing with freedom.

I would hate for him to get the boot and for us to start all this bollocks over again with someone else.

Do you think that the Colombian press and fans will be demanding heads roll if we beat them? Perhaps they might, but what have we ever done to suggest that we are better than the Mexicos, Colombias and Croatias of the world? So why do we EXPECT we should beat them?

It's been a cracking World Cup and although I'd be disappointed if we went out in the last 16, I wouldn't be angry. We could learn a lot from other countries who are proud of participating within the top 16 in the world and don't kill their teams or chances with misplaced and arrogant over-expectations.

That Loftus-Cheek is proper wank though.

I certainly wouldn't be expecting us to be any of those sides, mate. I fully expect Columbia to turn us over. I didn't think we would beat Tunisia in the first game (we only just did).

  8. It's a funny one, I don't think we have really exceeded anything yet. Look at it this way, if we lose against Columbia which is very much possible, we will have been knocked out having won 2 against two mediocre teams and lost two against two decent sides. Wouldn't have been a great tournament really.

  9. Don't know why its tagging lobt comment but anyway. Rothwell, if that's the sign of intent, then i presume the intent is to go straight back down. Poor player. On par with smallwood who wont be good enough for championship.

Jordan Williams freed today from Liverpool. Get him on trial at least, 1 yr at Rochdale already on table kid could be a squad filler and progress at Ewood

Are you high cause you've just beat us at cricket? Bloody disgrace from Englands bowling department.

  11. Id imagine we will be concentrating more on permanent signings at the moment with the window closing at the beginning of August this time. Then maybe loans will come in after that with the loan window open until the end of August. Interesting few weeks as a lot is needed to make the squad competitive in terms of building numbers with is being short and improving on quality which will be needed.

He was good at Everton and if he's of the same standard now I'd have him in a heartbeat. That was a few seasons back though

Was he? He was pretty average "However, despite scoring 9 goals in 77 appearances, he failed to make a major impact during his time at Everton and had been on the fringes of the first team squad during the 11/12 season after finding himself playing in the reserves. In November 2011, Bilyaletdinov said that he sought to leave the club if he did not get a first team place, as he feared losing his place in the national team"

I agree with that 100%. What is going on? :)

We have 2 solid left backs now, one of whom is a full international and can cover at center back also, the other in the League 1 team of the year. Many teams would be delighted with that. Yet some on here are saying we should sell Williams for a million. Crazy stuff

Mowbray seems to be very honest with his players, maybe he's told him that Bell is his man at left back next season and with Williams now on the international scene and wanting more caps, maybe Mowbray has agreed he can go.
