  1. 6 caps i think. This is where some are going a little off with this - we are talking established England players that have gone on to be top managers. People have mentioned Clough - which..hello of course he was one of the very best but had 2 caps for England. Venables similar. Look at the likes of Pep, Ziidane, Frank Rijkard, Luis Enrique, Cruyff, Simeone and the like that have gone on to become successful managers. i just wonder if foreign players are just mentally smarter than our players and know the game. In the modern era we have not really had any former 'top' England international to go into management and do well.
  2. Definitely not a Mowbray type player - not hungry enough and has had enough chances to take his career seriously.
  3. True - couple of caps again though. Another from way back when as well. Was thinking more recently really.
  4. Both a bit before my time but Don Revie certainly.
  5. I said Bryan Robson Bobby Robson is about the only one. Terry Venables as well perhaps but he was only capped twice by England. Edit - wrong quote - meant for Stuart.
  6. Keegan "i Would bloody love it", was almost successful and probably should have been with that Newcastle side. Bryan Robson another failure. It really is difficult to think of any ex-England international to become a successful manager.
  7. Kind of agree...good player I suppose, and a winger which we need but this rumor has hardly got me all giddy with excitement. Close to 30, no sell-on value and not exactly pacey. To me he would be a slightly younger and better upgrade on Conway.
  8. Would Gestede or Rhodes have done any better on the wing? There was something to suggest he was better up front as when he did play there during the cup games, he got the goals and looked the part. You say its because he wanted a move - I say its because iits his natural position and was finally played in his best position. Players with a bit of pace often get shunted out wide but pace alone does not make a winger. Yes he was unfortunate to have Rhodes and Gestede banging them in and was obviously shoehorned into another position but it is plain to see that Howe saw something that Bowyer didnt - hence snapping him up and immediately putting him into a starting PL 11.
  9. Never knew that - doesnt sound smart though but that might just be that awful cockney accent.
  10. He has a 1 in 3 record across three seasons now in the PLfor a bottom of the table team - bit different to one outstanding season? Might suggest why others are willing to throw 20 mil at him. During those FA cup games he invariably showed what he could do in a forward role and was never given a chance in the league - shunted out wide. Its quite obvious he plays better up front so why the hate because he aint much cop as a winger? Stick Rhodes on the wing and see what he can do.
  11. I dont think he ever had a consistent run of games - not up top at least. When he did play he played well i thought. He had the pace and ability to cause problems. I just think he did not suit GBs style and was therefore forfeited more often than not. Still to this day I would have liked to have seen a Gestede/King partnership persevered with.
  12. Surely Shearer had footballing experience and 'worldwide contacts' - so are you basically saying Lampard will do well because of his uncle? In that case - Jamie Redknapp should have gone into management - imagine how his dad could have helped him. Darren Ferguson has shown just how much a good manager as a father can help.
  13. Who are these worldwide contacts?
  14. No wonder all the 'Grealish is worth at least 30 mil' news articles floating around - they are hawking him off to at least cover half that. They have hit the ceiling after years of gambling on promotion. They have no choice now and it could damage them in the same way it has us - they will have to run as a normal championship club now.
  15. They plucked him from us after getting promoted and he has pretty much been a regular since then. So not good enough for us in the Championship but good enough to be a regular starter just a few months later int he PL?
  16. Ah Josh King, the striker playing in the PL but couldnt get into a team ahead of Rhodes and Gestede in the Championship...funny how things work out. Now he could be going for 20+. Lets also hope Cairney does well up there and secures a big move.
  17. Yup - sounds like Villas decision - they simply cannot afford this spending anymore with FFP. Seems they missed the boat like we did and will now have no choice but to tone it all done and possibly even face sanctions.
  18. Still so very young though, not sure its sink or swim. Keepers do not mature until much older and I can understand upping the level of competition he has right now, he needs to be challenged to perform. He has come on leaps and bounds this season but still has his weaknesses and will be coming up against MUCH better players and teams this time around. The Canadian was nothing but league manipulation
  19. Yup - inevitable, mentioned it before. Third year in the division now - FFP will be on their shoulders.
  20. This - said all along this was so we did not have to play without Mulgrew..and in a small part...Evans. Quite smart in the end from TM, why should we without a key member of our squad, especially in a position so important?

  22. Agreed, some would think that we have been in L1 for 10 years and have just made the step up or something. We were ably competing with these clubs and beating alot of them for years before last season.
  23. That is what Shrewsbury fans said about us this season. All the relegated clubs do it to some extent as an immediate return is paramount. We did it and failed, Villa did it on an even bigger scale and have failed and there will be others that fail in the future. What irks me more is clubs like Wednesday and Derby that have been spending millions for years in the hope of getting up and are somehow not being asked questions by FFP.
  24. Will they want him to stay? He has failed this season especially after what has been spent. Cannot see Terry staying now either - he might have considered it in the PL for a year but not now i doubt. Plus there is the fact of his massive wages. Their style of play hardly looked too attractive against Fulham either, so not sure fans will be content with Bruce. Fulham on the other hand looked excellent and they have built a team up over many seasons rather than splashed loads of cash.
  25. Massive gamble that hasnt paid off - their parachutes will run out soon in the next year or two as well I imagine. So glad we have finally got rid of most of our high earners and wastes of space and have a more structured wage at the club.
