Agree with most of your assessment but I thought Evans was a disgrace to the shirt today.

For me the best midfield combo is any that doesn't involve Evans. Smallwood wasn't great either today and for me the glaringly obvious change needed at HT was Travis for Evans or failing that Smallwood but Tony was obviously happy with what he saw.

Mowbray just makes a pigs dinner of it. He talks about change but changed nothing. Evans and smallwood together with Bennett moved to a new position was his change. We got that pairing out previously because it wasn’t working.

He’s better saying I’m not going to change personnel so just accept it than discuss the radical and do nothing.

Ill predict the next  game.  Team all the same members but a LT article on how it’s going to be radical. Rothwell is great, young players are under consideration bereton is a potential star. The team however is just the same.

Big club in a small town as John Williams used to put it.

We should always be proud of the heritage and prestige of this football club.

Something the club itself needs to take more pride in, I believe.

I agree and it should be made compulsory reading for the players before each and every game so they know who and what they represent

Only us and Leeds will take that to ewood this season.  You lot seem to think we see you as a bigger club.  We don't.  You aren't.  You'll see a big club on Sat.

Oh Ben Pearson is suspended too so the Blackburn Messi might get a kick this time

You don’t because you completely ignore the evidence.

teams with most success over the decades. Rovers finish 7th.

premiership points collected since its inception. Rovers 11th

most successful teams in terms of trophies. Rovers 11th

most successful small town club( independent article) Blackburn rovers.

one of only a handful of premiership winners. Blackburn rovers.

number of games cup semi finals appeared in 18. 20 if you count Blackburn Olympic.

Longest number of consecutive fa  cup games won 24 still a record Blackburn rovers.

    carling cup

when points are awarded for wetting into the last 32. Blackburn 15th most successful with 119 points Preston have 22 and I hadn’t the time to count their position it was so low.

one of only 3 teams to be founder members of the football league and premiership. Blackburn rovers

average home attendance this season rovers win

    average away following this season

    rovers1100

    preston 700

where have these other 6300 come from. Maybe they’ve just come to see the rovers

When I was a kid Bolton away was always the game with the most hassle, the walk from the station to Burnden park was a nightmare. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

That is so true. Was it railway end or embankment opposite the lever end at Bolton was a nightmare. They got both us and Burnley down to the hundreds in away support. You had to fight to get there get in and get out.

  5. Im not sure if this is off topic but it’s has much a question has an opinion. During the late 80s and early 90s when we where involved in our annual fight against promotion there was always a suspicion that our players didn’t want it. Whether this is true or not it was not surprising when the old guard where exchanged for hungrier players it was achieved.

To achieve promotion you need hunger and a belief across the team including management that your too good for where you are. I have no evidence for this but how many of our current old guard would still be here if we where promoted and do they believe they are to good for this league.

Im not sure organic growth in a rapidly changing environment is feasible without a significant element of luck due to the infinite number of variables involved.

This is only an opinion but without a degree of luck Mowbray philosophy will fail  due to a number of factors. Firstly the old guard he relies have no real incentive to change the status quo if it’s not broken for them why change it. Secondly younger hungrier better players who believe they are to good for this league will move. Finally you reap what you sew if you are seen as stagnant the players you attract are either here for rather ride or on the way up and out.

This is not meant to be negative but a general observation to coin the old phrase your either going forward or back.

I think it's Gallagher, but if Villa are keen on doing plenty of business today then outgoings are going to be necessary. Kodjia might well be a late mover. Who knows hey? Gonna keep optimistic though. Even if we don't sign anyone today then I think the squad as it is, is capable of a play off push.

I agree but if we take what Southampton say at face value then he’s staying. So I’m going with Madons information and say Assombalonga on loan with an option to buy regardless of wages.

  7. Went to yesterday’s game and Swansea, Ipswich ,Wigan, Preston and stoke. My New Years wish list is defenders who can defend no more no less. Our whole system is unbalanced because we have to play a midfield to try and defend our defenders. I’m not really sure what they do well but defending isn’t one of them. We don’t push forward or commit to attacks because they can’t be left exposed to:

In no particular order crosses, individual responsibility for covering your man, working as a unit, quick interchanges in front of them, players running behind them and the list probably goes on.

Good at looking surprised when opposition forwards do their job, staring at their feet and looking dejected at every goal.

Mowbray needs to stop buying midfielders and forwards and buy a set of decent defenders. Surprisingly this  is not a sudden problem it’s been there all the time since Mowbray arrived and before with no attempt at a solution.

New Year 3 or 4 defenders please.

  8. I’ve been highly critical of the team selection and performance last night in the game thread. However I have nothing but the upmost respect for Mowbray and I can’t envisage a set of circumstances where I would call for his head.

Even with the recent slump he has given us a team that you can be proud of regardless of their limitations and I would much prefer to be lead by someone who cares  than all the dross managers we’ve had recently.

(Although I do like a bit of winning as well please)

Wow. Glad to see no one is over reacting

A couple of defeats really brings them out

It’s not being beaten that’s the problem it’s the way it happens. Midfielders in defence making errors, the same midfielders week in week out in midfield repeatedly making the same errors.

Then finally if that isn’t enough midfielders for one team we shove the buggers up front while a seven million striker with 50 championship appearances sits on the bench because. Quote he needs to work on his strength.

We seem to have developed a habit of folding and whilst I hold no professional qualifications in football l suggest that it may help having less midfielders and let’s say more defenders in defence but that may be me being amateurish

    Rich Sharpe:

TM: “I’ve told the players that’s the worst I’ve seen since I’ve arrived. It’s unacceptable. It takes a lot for me to get angry with them but I don’t know where it came from. I apologise to the fans who travelled tonight.”

Reaction from Tony Mowbray: “That’s the worst performance I’ve seen since I walked through the door and I have to apologise to our fans. We have to be better than that, and we are better than that. We need to get back to basics.”

Stop talking and changes things. Rothwell doesn’t need to learn things he’s as good as what we’ve got and brings impetus to the game. Brerton is better as a striker than both Dack an Palmer. Why firstly it’s his natural position.  two  he’s taller and more importantly he has played more championship games in that position than both of them.

    just thoughts,

but I can almost guarantee he won’t changethe team

in conclusion Conway for nyambe. Really really he must stop smoking that strong shit.

Well that scoreline flattered rovers. Quote of the day came from Tony saying he's never parked the bus in his life, he only knows how to attack. I will just let that sink in....

Dack had to come back to his own box to get a touch of the ball. Bell looks like a stiff breeze would knock him over. Rodwell apparently slipped for the penalty but he completely pulled out of a 50-50 he should of won.

No fight, no heart , no desire, no idea.

    Appalling

Complete and utterly agree. Bell appalling but it’s unfair to signal out individuals. The fella on the touch line set them up and put them out there. He says no wholesale changes I think he needs to think again. I’m going to stop because I’m boring myself.

yes he got us out of a shit league but I feel we should be trying to be better.

this is his team selection and tactics and it’s shit .

Ps I’ve been home and away and prior to losing it’s still been shit. We just got away with it

  12. It really is hard to tell. We have a good away following who are  not always the same people and therefore  probably a larger cumulative number than the figures suggest game on game. Given the right set of circumstances ie results and Preston’s close proximity. 5000 is achievable theoretically.
