  1. I'll retract the word 'tinpot', if you like. But please don't try to argue that Luton Town possess one eighth of a scintilla of the pedigree of Blackburn Rovers.
  2. I was there, it was rotten. Only travelling from London, though. I think one of the very few failings King Kenny had as a manager was an understandable lack of ability in countering anti-football sides like Cambridge. From memory, he just packed the team with as many 6 footers as he could find.
  3. Why do I bother getting my hopes up? You'd think I'd know by now.
  4. Anyone else used to chuck washing powder in the fountains, apart from me and a mate?
  5. Thanks for the confirmation. I was feeling a bit rough this morning.
  6. No, I think Seed and Gabbuts was across the road on the bottom of Preston New Road. There was a toffee shop next to it though, which used to get terrorised by us QEGS kids on our way home.
  7. I'm sure I once got served by Keith in there. Shop was on the end of Richmond Terrace, if memory serves.
  8. And in the meantime Swansea have lost, Norwich are getting thumped and Watford Reading and Stoke are only drawing. Come on chaps!
  9. 'Barometer for season's intent' is probably my favourite sentence ever on this board. Or anywhere else, for that matter.
  10. Didn't Keith Newton have a newsagents on Sudell Cross at one time? I'm sure he had 'Keith Newton- Blackburn Rovers - Burnley -England' on the shopfront.
  11. In other news, Brunley look to be on the wrong end of a larrupping at Man City.
  12. Bloke on the BBC just said TM has his worst record facing Barnsley than any other club.....
  13. Didn't they have that plank John Rudge as manager? He was an absolute disciple of the the route 1 'style' of play, coupled with as much shithousery as they could get away with. Awful manager, awful team. God knows how they ended up in the play-offs with us.
  14. We had 70% possession in the first half. Tony'll be happy whatever happens.
  15. First time I ever encountered skinheads was when Leicester played at Ewood about 1968. I also have a vague recollection of standing on the BE around that time when we played Sheff Wed. This was in the days of 'mingling' on the terraces. Their 'lads' were all fashionably attired in Crombies and carrying neatly furled black umbrellas. We all thought they were a bit of a laugh until, at some given signal presumably, they started lamping everyone in sight with their brollies and it all kicked off.
  16. Many years ago a friend dragged me along to watch his lads Fulham playing at Wycombe Wanderers. Adams Park is literally in the middle of an industrial estate. Hideous.
  17. My musical hero has always been my namesake, Elvis Costello. Saw him at the City Hall here in Sheffield just before the first lockdown and he had the place rocking. I reckon it was one of the best shows I've ever seen him put on - and I've been watching him live since I used to see him at the old Hammersmith Palais (RIP) back in the early 1980's. New album out later this month
  18. I believe Bobby Moore's captain's talk in the dressing room prior to the 1966 World Cup Final consisted simply of "Let's go..."
