Very simple. You can bring in a Henderson every year (we won’t, by the way, just more Waltons), it won’t get us in the top 6 with our managers approach to the defence and the constant changing personnel (and Bennett).

Still not sure what that has to do with you saying SUFC play with a back 4. I don't think it really matters but I was just curious.

Where does that leave the Lee Williamsons of the world and the other dross we signed on thousands per week under embargo ?

Guys way down the food chain earning 6 - 8k per week at the likes of Salford is nearly as bad as the top guys earning 50k pwk.  Some realism needed all the way through the pyramid.  They aren't all going to fit onto the Chelseas of the worlds books nor will they get poached by Dutch and Belgian second tier clubs.

Exactly. The demand for L1 and L2 players is hardly going to be huge in the Belgium, Dutch, Italian leagues etc. I read the other day that James Norwood at Ipswich is on £9k per week. Even if a salary cap is brought in and he had to halve his wage he's never get that anywhere else in Europe.

To any of the dozens of other leagues. If this isn't extended to other leagues it does reduce the competitive advantage English football has had for a while now. How much so remains to be seen.

I'd hazard a guess that a carthorse in L2 gets paid a lot more than a carthorse in the Dutch equivalent.

Don’t see how this can effectively be enforced to be frank...

I don't see how clubs can survive without it. It's going to take a few years to be fully effective though so unless clubs get fans through the gates soon they are going to go bust.

8 million is still massive when compared to next seasons limit. Hard to see how Wigan can keep almost any of their senior players even if their takeover goes well. If your whole wage bill stretches to about 50 grand a week, you can't be having a player on 8-10 unless they're so good that they almost get you promotion by themselves.

It is massive. I think Wigan's was about £5m that season and then the next highest was Shrewsbury's at about £2.5m iirc.

It would be interesting to see what Wycombe's was this season for comparison.

If the player is down to receive a cut of the transfer fee, the bigger the transfer fee the more to him.

@Bigdoggsteel I very much doubt he'd sulk. His agent would probably be telling him, he can get a much bigger deal than that.

Again, not relevant to the point. The point is a player wouldn't NOT give himself a way out if he knows bigger clubs with more money are in for him.

According to the accounts for the 2017/2018 season our wages paid was £16.8m as first team is around 90% of that it was pretty much £15m.

That was the pre-tax loss not the wage bill

    Rovers wage bill was £8m

    why wouldn't he sign that?

Plays his best football under Mowbray, Key player to the team and I would be make him our top earner at the club

Why would he tie himself into a long term contract with no release clause when clubs in the league above want him? That would be stupid.

League One and Two introducing salary caps, well below what ours was in League One. No clarity there on how it affects teams who go down (as I'd argue that forcing them into a fire sale as soon as they go down would hardly encourage financial sustainability for relegated clubs).

Implied that the Championship are considering a similar move, but not explicitly stated. They could be in talks about whether to delay profit and sustainability cut offs etc instead.

£18m wage cap is being discussed for Champ but no vote planned as yet and not going to be in time for the coming season
