  1. Unable to connect in to chat. Seems we are slightly shading it but it is sphincter shrinking when you are listening in on the radio. tugs seems quiet...Thommo on bench along with Mokoena, Reid, Johnson & Enkleman. Sounds like things are heating up a bit!
  2. Flukey is good, I can live with that. Read the score line!
  3. Well Done Boyo, Yous knows you ave made the right decision.
  4. If he can keep us in the Prem then 3mill will be a good deal... only time will tell. However it does show that the board are once again wholeheartedly backing the manager, with what for us is a big transfer fee.
  5. Can somebody tell the rest of us what actually happened?
  6. Henning Berg for me as he won the premiership with us, never parted from us under any cloud & has been the player most capped whilst playing for Blackburn Rovers. I know Hendry & England are running away with it, but if a second XI is going to be made of the best runners up the Henning definitely deserves to be in that side. Can anybody confirm if the advert for Mike England timber that is (was) in the Darwen End, just under the radio Rovers box, is THE Mike England??
  7. Interesting some of the names that HAVEN'T been mentioned... Is this the greatest ever Rovers players? In which case Faz would be a shoo in - or is it the greatest ever players to pull on the famous halved shirt? If the latter then I think Patrick Andersen will have a strong case. We may not have seen the best of him, but I think his career CV is even better than the lauded Mike England, who got most of his acclaim for his Spurs rather than Ewood days... I grew up idolising Killer Keeley & remember watching him on TV in his Everton debut with mixed emotions, but he was soon found to be woefully lacking & or me that rules him out from greatness... The next real idol at Centrehalf would be Hendry, but his relationship with the club disintigrated in a farce. The sheer grit drive & determination of Kevin Moran makes him a contender, but was he a 'great' player? For me Henning Berg must be a favourite as he was class on & off the field as well as earning more international caps whilst playing for Rovers than any other player. Please stick with the 442 formation Den, it's the only one I have really seen the club stick with.
  8. How can it be a bad deal? just wish we'd had the vision to get him when Bolton picked him up in the first place... Wondering where he will play, personaly I would play him just behind the front two, in the same sort of position that Souey tried to use Yorke on several occassions. Surround him with younger players & use his footballing wisdom to get his team mates to do all the running for him. Maybe this will also spark a renaissance in Tugay, a player who can also unlock defences when in the mood - but hasn't been in the mood in a while...
  9. Ultimately it is all about opinions, and if the majority of people who vote are of the opinion that Le saux was the greatest then we have to accept that verdict. I've seen Le Saux play, but not Eckersley, but still voted for Eckersley. A greatest team has surely got to contain a balance of the old & the new. Not wishing to pre-empt anything, but if you think the debate over the left back slot has been interesting just wait while we get to the centre halves! The fact that people voice such strong opinions is a great way to enlighten supporters about the rich footballing tradition that is Blackburn Rovers.
  10. Just to clarify for some of the world-wide message board members, Blackburn's Asian population is from the Indian sub-continent & most definitley NOT from Far East Asia.
  11. just acquired "Must I Paint You A Picture - The Essential Billy Bragg" & it is being played to death at the mo. You forget just how good, witty & erudite a song writer the Braggster is. The full gamut of emotions are played out on the album by a man who is not afraid to speak his mind. A definite recommend...
  12. I've seen all the full backs since Andy Burgin & as most of them were in the 2nd & 3rd Division I think that rules them out from the greatest ever Rovers XI. Of the left backs we have had since Uncle Jacks revolution I think Le Saux has to be the best England International & prem winner says it all really... however his tantrum in Moscow & aledged squabbles at the end of his stint with us all stack massively against him. I'm afraid that the left back selection for me is going to have to go to a player I have only ever read about, but any ex-player who asks for his ashes to be scattered on the pitch has got to be very highly respected. The fact that other knowledgable posters in this topic can testify to both his brilliance on the field & genuineness of the field means that I can only vote for Bill Eckersley.
  13. Can somebody confirm for me, is De Pedro still at the club or has he gone back to Spain? I've heard contrasting stories...
  14. why does this seem like such a massive result when we are only playing bloody pompey, we should be eating teams like this for breakfast...
  15. thought matty was playing wide & jay down middle.. 3 mins added time oh for fluffs sake come on you mighty blues
  16. I was sat a bit away from the banner in question but I made it out to say 'TROOPERS HEAD IS LIKE A HORSES BUM'
  17. when asked if the current squad was better than the one when he played for us Sparky pondered & then made comments about having to use the players he has at present & will be looking to bring new players in... lets hope he can work some "out of contract" magic!
  18. Walter Crook Born Whittle-le-Woods 1912 Rovers 1931 - 1947 Apps 237, goals 2 International Honours 1 wartime appearance for England Graduated through junior teams before making full debut, was an ever present from 1934 until outbreak of second world war in 1939.Crook then figured in te first 17 matches of the 1946-47 season to make it a record 208 consecutive league appearances for us. Walter was the captain of the second division championship team in 1939-40 & played in Rovers 1940 War Cup Final, military service keeping him away from Ewood Park for most of the War years. Walter later moved to Bolton where injury cut short his playing career, he then moved into coaching & led Ajax Amsterdam to the championship within two years of arriving in Holland. Crook was a a rugged character whose aggressive approach inspired his colleagues & delighted supporters. (details courtesy of Mike Jackman's encyclopedia)
  19. As I said to the wife only the other night, "I'm indifferent"
  20. So long & thanks for the good times Souey. You have been great for this great club, but lady luck seems to have stopped smiling on you & this move seems to be in the best interests of both the Rovers & you... As to the new bod... What is Henning Berg doing? ditto Stig Bjornebye? Also why bring Tony Parkes back when he has just been shunted out to the reserves & one would assume has had little contact with the first team??? Is it just VERY stop gap 1-2 day move? For me it would have to be Strachan...
  21. Great guy, excellent leader for the club but maybe his luck had run out at Ewood & I expected him to be sacked rather than poached. Bear him no ill will at all, has done a marvelous job for us but think todays announcement was in the best interests of both us & Souey
  22. How about a load of photo copied A4 pages (like the 4's & 6's at cricket)with the number of games since a pen printed on big & bold. That way they could be held up all around the ground & would be a lot easier to update over the next year or so...
  23. We can still make out of cotract signings can't we? I Know it reduces the options a bit, but Wiltord was in that boat... Also we picked up Sukur on that score didn't we? Ok things went sour with him but at the time most people were happy with his signing
  24. Of the players I ahve seen I would say that only three really stand out Kevin Hird (but he later turned into a Dingle so he's out), Chris Price (mainly excellent in first division - not as good on his return) & Henning Berg. Berg played more international games whilst with us then any other Rover has every done & although he was not the most exciting full back I think he would have to be my choice of the players I have seen. HOWEVER one cannot argue with the contribution of Bob Crompton who not only played all his career with us but also went on to managethe club. So Bob gets my vote. Speaking of which where is the voting form?
