  1. You must do well on the horses. I retired at 40 betting against your football bets. 😉
  2. But the Mula we spent on him is long gone.
  3. It certainly is. There was always talk of a 'holiday club' mentality under Mowbray. It's refreshing to know JDT has high standards.
  4. Oh I see. On a not unconnected note, JDT has called out Garrett for not training hard enough. Maybe that was also the problem with Adam Wharton? Who knows... 'Step up' - Jon Dahl Tomasson gives honest verdict on Blackburn Rovers midfielder's gametime - LancsLive
  5. If we're talking about Adam Wharton then it was @J*B who said there had been an issue
  6. https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/football-news/blackburn-rovers-ainsworth-qpr-wycombe-26301662 Ainsworth saying he would have only left Wycombe for Rovers or QPR
  7. ‘Radford again … Oh what a goal!’ John Motson’s best commentary moments | Football | The Guardian Some classic Motty commentaries.
  8. This was the point last season it all went wrong. Only 4 wins and 2 clean sheets in the last 13 games. 7 wins from the last 13 this season and we're probably in the play-offs.
  9. And the defeat was after going down to ten on 50 mins when 1-1
  10. We win a lot of games 1-0. So whoever scores when that happens.
  11. 20 of those concede goals have come in 6 games (Bristol City, PNE, Burnley, Rotherham, Reading, Sheff Utd). There's no denying we've capitulated in those games. In the other 27 games we've conceded 17 goals. That's impressive whichever way you look at it.
  12. Haha, yeah there is it. I think it's just the length of time he's willing to sit back and shut-up shop for. I think against Hudds we just stopped bothering playing from about the 65 minute mark and were just happy to soak up whatever they had to throw at us. Against B'ham we were lucky to have an inspired Kaminski in goal.
  13. Luton over a 2 leg semi, and then MIllwall in the final. It's hardly prime Barcelona we'd be playing.
  14. He says himself that sometimes they defend deep and sometimes they defend and press higher up the pitch. JDT doesn't get the credit he deserves. The clean sheets aren't an accident, neither are the leads we've held on to after going 1 up. He clearly feels comfortable defending deep. The stats bear out his confidence.
  15. We're just better drilled in my opinion.
  16. That's the main difference with the Mowbray era. I always thought we'd concede when we were a goal up under Mowbrray, but with JDT's team we invariably hold out for the win without too much pressure.
  17. Yeah, exactly the same for me, the Big Match Revisited from the 60's/70's/80's that is on ITV4 on a Saturday morning (or was?) always takes me back to youth. And Minder, obviously!
  18. We've capitulated in some high-profile games, notable PNE and Burnley, but the number of clean sheets prove he's got the team set-up well defensively. We're currently on 13 clean sheets, the record in a season is 19 (79/80 and 92/93).
  19. If you're of a certain age, Motty, along with Brian Moore, was the football soundtrack to your youth. He wasn't a clever arse like some commentators, he just had boundless enthusiasm and a love of football. RIP.
  20. Interesting graph for a much-maligned player ......... he's consistently very decent and doesn't let the team down.
  21. Some valid points, I only really posted it because fans question why any team would piss about with at the back, given all the risks. As for Brittain, no sure what you mean? He passed it to JRC. I don't think the idea is to pass it for the sake of it, the idea is to draw the other team out. If that involves a little shoulder drop and turn near the touchline then so be it. I don't think JDT will be bollocking him for it. I'd imagine players have a little autonomy to create space how they feel fit. As for more goals being conceded than scored by playing it out from the back, I'm not sure that is remotely correct.
  22. Probably the prefect example of why teams persist with passing the ball about at the back. It's high risk but when it works it leaves half the opposition team stranded cos they've been sucked in to our half trying to nick the ball. One little turn from Brittain and half their team might as well have not been on the pitch.
  23. You're welcome, and great post!
